It was good, and actually returned to old doctor who. It was very pertwee era, running around in rural towns, and the silurians were good. Though they had human features and lost their classic appearance.

EDIT: Look at WanderingRogue's avatar if you dont know what they look like in classic Dr Who.

I thought they made thenm look a bit daft, making a monster look like a star trek alien. I prefer the old mask system to this new one, because something with a human face is never frightnening. Its a shame, because the episode itself was rather good.

I think they're meant to be more relateable than other Who villains, and unlike Cybermen/Autons/Daleks they have individual characters that need to be expressed somehow.

I just resent having enemies that look like rejects from Star Trek: Enterprise. It reminded me too much of the cactus people, the Cheem, or that bloody blue insect thing of the Master.

Indeed, i liked the lightsx on top of their head and the mouth holes rom the old ones, it gave them a unique appearance, and when have reptiles ever had identical features to a human? Hopefully they provide a more background knowledge of the silurians in the next episode. Some of the younger viewers havent had the privilege of watching the classic episodes.

When is the cyberman episode? I think Van Gogh is in another, maybe explaing why he cut off his ear?

You guys know the show isn't really pretending that these guys are pure Silurian, right? They're supposed to be some sort of distant cousin of the Silurians. I'm not really crazy about the look of them either, 'course. I was dissapointed when I learned that their face was just a mask.

They're having another 13 episode series so I hope that the Cyberman episode is that last episode and is a 2/3 parter episode, it looked like the tomb of the cybermen from the original series. Possibly some the Cybermen are plotting the conquest of earth from mars and the doctor must stop them.

Van Gogh cut his ear off when he was in a mental asylum and sent it to his girlfriend B)

I agree with Turns-The-Page, the silurians looked like a star trek reject, they reminded of the Asari of Mass effect but coloured green tbh.

I wish they did more nostalgic DW stuff though, I remember watching this Doctor who monster special years ago (before the new season was broadcasted) it showed all the monsters from the origianl series, I was only young then but the Cybermen gave me nightmares for a week, they were much more badass than they are now.

This scene where they awaken their leader, crouching foetus-like in his stasis chamber, has to be one of the best scenes in Doctor Who.

"YOU BELLLONG TO UUUS. YOU SHALL BE LIKE UUUS..."

Their old singsong voices were cool back then. Scarier than the borg in some respects, since they don't have faces. And their shambling walk.

Also, we have a Doctor Who wiki. http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Doctor_Who_Wiki

Its quite complete, though it does lean heavily on the Lungbarrow stories for exposition.

They should bring back the cocoons, that was just freaky.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-A8EOew8Lg
Watch that, it actually makes me get a little chill inside when they just break out of their cocoon and march down the ladder, also skip to 3:30 there's a scene where they are forcing a guy towards the cocoon. I hated it in the new ones where they made them march towards the cocoon (although its not much of a cocoon anymore :( )
Also they should bring the gold thing back, it was such a brilliant weakness, gold isn't a common thing to find lying around.

I just watched half of The TIme Meddler. I'd forgotton how Acerbic the 1st Doctor's wit could be.

Doctor: (holding a horned viking helmet) You still say this isn't a time machine?

Stephen: maybe...

Doctor: Maybe? What else do you suppose this is, a space helmet for a cow?

Thats why i was disappointed, becasue they werent the orginals, everything has to be related to or a cousin of. Like the new cyberman, their amazing in the new one, but they brought them back as the parallel version. They have been in this universe more than the parallel one.The silurians should have gone back to the old look, just changed but with features like the light and the mouthy thing still there.

It's pretty clear that when they need an alien to actually deliver a performance and not just go RARGH, they have to humanise them to some extent. It's the difference between characters like Rosanna Calvieri and General Staal, and monsters like the Judoon captain and the Jagrafess. That's why so many Who villains have to disguise themselves as humans or work through human proxies.

An old-school Silurian could deliver lines, but it would be tough to get anything good out of an actor under those circumstances.

Look at my avatar, it actually looked more amphibian than the new ones, the new ones look like a possible concept for the Suliban (from star trek enterprise)

The old silurians didn't just go RAGH either. They talked eloquently, but they were still clearly alien creatures, whereas a monster loses its alien factor if its clearly a human with face paint on.

Well I for one am hoping that if they resurrect the Vervoids in the new series they alter them similarly. Otherwise they look a bit... familiar.

There's probably a similar reason why the TCE never came back. :whistling:

Actually the Silurians weren't Aliens they are Native to earth, they existed on earth but when the moon came into orbit of earth they fled underground because they thought that an asteroid that was heading towards earth would hit the earth and their race, the asteroid was actually the moon.
I'm going to count the all the Silurian errors you make from now turns-the-page, this is the second time :stare:

I know they're from Earth, I meant alien in the sense of "non-human".

And you can't blame me for the other one, it was misinformation combined with something that looked [censored] all like a Silurian. :P

I love Doctor Who my favorite Dr. is:

1: David Tennet.

2: Sylvester McCoy.

3: Tom Baker.

4: Patrick Troughton (Tomb of the Cyberman and The Five Doctors---there the only ones I've seen him in).

5: Jon Pertwee (The Five Doctors).

6: Matt Smith ( I like his version of the Doctor, seems to be a mix of Tennet's and McCoy's Doctors).
