Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening & DA2

Couldn't agree more.

I ended up ditching Morrigan for Wynne, though. I myself am an offensive mage, so a healer is welcome in my party.

I really need to start playing again, though...

I just respec Morrigan if I want something else, since I cannot bear to give up her dialogue.

See, I didn't even know you could do that.

Might have to look into that...

Never found the need for a defensive mage in Dragon Age. After a point, it's not really difficult to keep the team alive, even without healing poultices and spells. Until I can get her some real firepower, Wynne can do little more than twiddle her thumbs in battle.

Lolwut.

They already stated that they want to fine-tune the zoomed out view so it can be as "tactical" as it gets, for PC only, before they consider including the harder to tune isometric view. Had something to do with the level architecture. Shouldn't really be that much of a difference though, and I've played NWN&2 the same way.

I must have horrible builds then, because it's everything I can do not to die. I may need to start a new game.

It requires a mod.

Ah, I see. That would explain why I don't know about it. :P

I've always heard mages are the best. Or most fun.

I tried one with the beginning of Awakening and they are powerful but die very easily...makes sense though.

Do I need anything special to install mods? Like Oblivion needs OBMM and such.

@Powermapler: Don't get too discouraged. Wynne/healing mages are good at the beginning and for beginners before you learn what all the good crowd control abilities are and how to use a tank effectively (or even get your tank up to snuff). It's just for me, once I got the hand of it (which happened pretty much after completing the Mage Tower and Redcliffe sections), I started finding myself not actually using her while she was in my party.

Heh, with the right talents and Specializations, Mages stop being so soft.

As for what mods are "necessary," well...I use http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1433, which adds a storage chest to your campsite (this really should have been in the vanilla game). And though I don't ever respec in the vanilla game, http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14 might prove useful if that's what you want to do.

rogues are a fairly good all-around class and probably one of the best classes to choose if you're playing the game for the first time

You don't NEED anything, just like Oblivion doesn't NEED OBMM. There is a Dragon Age Mod Manager (and a Dragon Age Nexus), but there is also a utility in the DA install folder called daupdater.exe that installs the most common type of DA mod file, which is how you install DLC also, It really just puts it in the AddIns folder, but it makes it all very easy. The Mod Manager is good for seeing what mods are installed, and installing .override files with configurable options.

@Powermapler That was my problem the first time I tried playing. I had a really crappy warrior and didn't set up tactics very well at all. Ended up hating the game because of it. If you need some help, there are a bunch of guides http://social.bioware.com/forum/Dragon-Age-Origins/Dragon-Age-Origins-Characters-Classes-and-Builds-Spoilers-Allowed/Guide-Compilation-for-Dragon-Age-Origins-547017-1.html that I found really helpful.

I went on an obsessive tear on Origins and finished it up Tuesday. I tried playing Awakening, got through the very beginning (the Keep) but I seem to have lost interest. So far it feels like some mediocre Dragon Age fan fiction. Granted I haven't played much of it, but does it pick up? I'm thinking about just making a new character and playing through Origins.

I noticed this:

Lolwut.

Hmmm this game like fable (tlc not 2-3)... The idea of a game like fable makes me happy, however with DAO it just wont fit, fable was great for its world and fun gameplay, melee could be similar, but magic wont be like fable and neither will ranged (skill) and those were amazingly fun in fable. BW are trying to make DA2 something its not, that will likely fail because they try to please everyone. Although I really want another game like fable 1, it has made me like the idea mor, but I still doubt it will work. Hope they release a dmo before release.

After seeing gameplay, how the [censored] was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAT1OmZnVH4 supposed to hook fable fans ?

Mybe its me, but the mana ar seems pointless considering it harly decreases and fills quickly.

Apparently they want to utilise walls and ceilings more than before, which might be awesome.

That's the umpteenth time I have to state this: This demo shows the really, really, really exaggerated story a dwarven rogue-ish guy tells of Hawke. The tutorial with a seriously overpowered character, if you will.

Is there a way to make it so those killing blows happen often? Where your character does a special move like decapitate or stab an enemy with a final blow.

There's a mod that literally does JUST that.

A couple of options. Just look at the descriptions.

Thanks!
How do I install it? I've never used a mod on DA before.

Looking at some other mods, it says put them in the /override folder which I do not have.

Put the files inside your \Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override folder.

Also, make sure to have a named folder for each individual mod.

I could deal with that; trailers and teasers usually don't have exactly what is in the game. Sacred Ashes trailer is an example. I think its rather unfortunate to use the exaggerated Hawke is so super uber that enemies explode when he looks at them gameplay as the "demo". Its the other changes they've decided on that I don't think I will like. With the information they've released so far, I'm not planning on getting the game. Which really svcks, because I love DA:O. I guess there is some faint hope that some new information will be released that might convince me to get it, but not so far.

Your Override folder by default should be in Documents - Bioware - Dragon Age - Packages - Core - Override. If for some reason it isn't there you can simply make it yourself.
