Empire or Stormcloak

Isn't this what Wulf - AKA Tiber Septim - said in Morrowind? How do supporters of the Empire shoot this down?

Spoiler
"The Emperor is getting old. Don't know how much longer he'll hang on. So is the whole Empire, for that matter. Getting old, that is. The Emperor and the legions have held the Empire together for hundreds of years. It's been a good thing, by and large. But maybe it's time for a change. Time for something young and new. What? No idea. Because I'm old. Old dog doesn't get new ideas. But maybe young folks like you should try some new ideas. I don't know. Could be messy. But change is never pretty."

"Maybe." Change isn't always good, even if out of the mouth of Talos Stormcrown. Like I said, a united empire > a divided one.

They don't need to, at least as far as I understood it. My impression is that many go towards the Empire mainly because of the future conflict with the Thalmor and the Empire seems a safer bet for defeating them(whether they are or not is up for debate). If the threat of the Dominion weren't there I think more people would be for the Stormcloaks.

Precisely. The Empire didn't want to banish the worship of Talos, they did it so their entire Empire wasn't destroyed. Once the Thalmor are taken care of and the worship of Talos is no longer banned, they'd have no need of Stormcloaks, would they? Besides the Skyrim for the nords bit which I think is a tad racist.
If the Redguards could fight the Thalmor and keep them out of Hammerfell I'm sure a united Skyrim and Empire could keep the Thalmor out of Skyrim. What the Stormcloaks are doing is stupid and is exactly what the Thalmor want.

I still wouldn't. I actually was going to side with the Stormcloaks until I saw the racism when walking into Windhelm's gates. I've never supported them since, really. Though I agree, some may support the Stormcloaks a bit more. But with the worship of Talos never being banished, their cause is just blatant racism isn't it?

Not so sure. The ban of Talos is a rallying call, but I think the right to rule their own nation is very strong in many of the Nords. However, Ulfric would have had a harder time to gather supporters. Also, those racists aren't even in the Stormcloaks. Plus, just about all information about the racism of the leaders if the Stormcloaks are heavily biased at best. I'd take it with a grin of salt, much like the "murder" of the High King ;)

Empire, ive grown up with them in the TES games and my Orcs have always been part of the Legion, i just cant see me siding with anyone else. Dont get me wrong the Empire aint perfect, especially now but as soon as our strength has been regrouped and we have crushed the Thalmor then we can go back to the good old days.

Did you read the dossier on Ulfric?
Spoiler
they want him to win because it splits the Empire even more than it's already severed.

If the Thalmor want anyone to win the Civil War, it'd be the Empire. They can control the Empire through the WGC. They can't control a free Skyrim.

Not sure myself, but I think I'm leaning toward the Empire. As a Breton, my character believes in some form of democracy. Specifically, a province can decide how to rule itself for the most part, and the Empire acts as a medium for foreign relations and trade, as well as a strong-arm to protect and keep peace between nations.
The Empire is not a democracy whatsoever. They attempt to force their laws/beliefs down the throat of other nations (Like the Talos ban), and there is no voting system whatsoever when it comes to naming a new Emperor. It's not like they hold a Moot to vote and elect a new High King... The only province to maintain it's freedom in the history of the past several Empires, was Morrowind. That's because the Tribunal fought the forces of Tiber Septim to a near standstill, and Vivec decided to offer Numidium as a gift to Tiber Septim in return for the Armistice that made Morrowind part of the Empire, but retain it's ability to self-govern.
Also, historically, Skyrim has been known as the Strong Arm of the Empire.

Empire. A splinter group as fanatical and radical with Ulfric as their leader would not only see the Thalmor as their enemy, but the Empire, as well. Waging two wars, against two regimes is taxing, much more so for a revolutionary group that only just took control of Skyrim, and lacking in the manpower that the others would have. Skyrim is practically cornered. Ulfric would only succeed in effiectively obligating his own people to slaughter. While the Empire is initially driven out of Skyrim, Ulfric would have to be a brilliant strategist, if he hopes to topple both the Thalmor, and the Empire.

No, but they can beat the Empire back and easily take everything they want. They plan to attack the Empire eventually, and if it's divided, it will lose.

Indeed, you are correct. Just thought it was funny that the mask is associated with an underdog :P

More on topic: Personally I find it difficult to chose one side in this conflict. Depending on the perspective one chose to see the situation from both sides are either the bad guys or the slightly less ad guys.

Stormcloaks:
Restored Talosworship
A nation openly hostile to the Dominion who have always been more longtime strategists
Said nation is hard to invade because of the environment
However:
Less troops since less nations can controbute to the army
Minimal magical understanding since the Stormcloaks doesn't seem to trust magic
They lack an intelligence network like the Empire have
No special operations units like the Penitus Oculatus
But:
The Empire allows the Thalmor to move in their territory
Corruption and infighting seem to be a part of the Elder Council

At the end of the day I am not sure who to support, but I think I am a little more friendly to the Empire than the Stormcloaks.

I have usually sided with the Stormcloaks for my own reasons, but I might do the Imperial Legion this time.. I never have done the ending so I'll save my opinion on it for when I'm done.
