Fallout: New Vegas Official Thread

I know this is a stretch, but has anyone thought of the possibility that Beth is giving Obs this opportunity to see how well they do, and if it is recieved well enough by the fans and sales are good enough, that they would then give all future Fallout sequels to them to develop. Which would give Beth all of theur recources to work on TES games..And by having them do a spinoff now, If it is not well recieved Beth can continue with things as they had originally planned.. I realize this may be way off base, But from a certain standpoint it makes sense....

I think Beth wanted a second franchise to altermate with TES, so I'd imagine that they would continue to make the games. This may be an attempt to reconcile the ill feeling from traditional franchise fans. If Obsidian can make a more hardcoe RPG, all the better: Beth can continue to make Beth style open exploration games.

I hope they're getting more than a year to develop this.

I hope they have as much time as they need to develop it. Obsidian is terrible under strict deadlines.

I'm sure that deadline isn't set in stone, but also if it is released nov, dec, 2010 it's more like 18 months to develop, and if they are using the same engine they will be able to progress fairly quickly.. Also I can recall Beth devs saying things like they don't like solid deadlines, and it'll be done when it feels right.. I'm sure there is some wiggle room

As long as they put the pool stick from Fallout 3 back in there I'm buying it.

I think this is most likely the case as well, I just thought of that and thought i'd throw it out there, and I'm sure Beth wants to capitalize on FO now while it's still pretty hot..

Vegas + Area 51 would provide very imaginative storylines, interesting factions, and people rebuilding the strip! Old school BOS scavving slotmachines from vegas and tech from area 51, Mafia etcetcetc, and with area 51 we could have aliens!. :fallout:

Obsidian has some skill with RPGs no doubt about it but they NEVER lived up to the greatness of the previous games. They did KoTOR II and Neverwinter Nights 2 and I have to say that the fans really felt short changed. Fallout 3 at the moment is the shining pride of Bethesda while TES: Oblivion has already ruined the TES series so why not give them something else, something less important and already ruined.....like.....oh I don't know......TES V for example?

At this point I feel very strongly that Bethesda should be making this game so that the fans can continue to enjoy this great series rather that prepare for a huge dissapointment.

Alot of the original fans felt short changed with Fallout 3, which was already a huge dissapointment to me atleast.

I trust Obsidian to make a decent game, since all of their games have been fun so far.

Well since Bethesda has every intention of making FO4 I think that this is more or less something to help the fans pass the time while waiting as well as keep profits coming, I am looking forward to trying it, and if it does well ,aybe they can keep making spinoffs and we can get some sort of Fallout game every couple years instead of every four to five years, definate possibility for a win all around..

I don't know what you're talking about, KotOR II was great, as was Mask of the Betrayer. They both at least lived up to their predecessors, if failing to better them (the KotOR II "ending" notwithstanding").

Actually NWN2 is really an aberration. I honestly don't know how the same guys that, once upon a time, had a hand in Plancescape: Torment, Icewind Dale, and Fallout managed to make that.

Incidentally, are you the same Darth Trethon on the Mass Effect forums?

...
I dunno... I bought MOTB because the RPGCODEX said it was incredibly good ~And that's the only reason. (Oddly enough I've not gotten around to playing it yet though  )

Late to party. Excellent news. I have a gut feeling that this is the project Sawyer was talking about. vb may actually be released after all. It will be interesting to see what will happen to the gameplay mechanics but the interesting story and good dialogues are pretty much guaranteed.

Gizmo, motb is sublime. It's one of the must play rpgs of the last five yrs. Some criticize the spirit eater mechanic but it really adds a new layer to the tried formula. It's a matter of taste, I guess.

That's what I was thinking too, part of Van Buren was going to be set in Nevada so Obsidian may very well be developing Van Buren (on a smaller scale) in the Game Bryo engine for this "spin off". I'm looking forward to learning more regardless.

Im guessing its gonna be similar to Fallout Tactics in that it keeps close to the spirit of the core fallouts but has some sort of twist? Bethesda is doing FO4 still.

I doubt they would be the same day, but for sure the same year, I can't wait for Fallout: New Vegas, it's bound to be awesome. Obsidian is actually a pretty good company, they did make the second KOTOR which was pretty good, I hope to hear some more news on this soon.

Oh and to the Poster above me, I heard TES 5 was supposed to come out in 2010

No, TES 5 won't be out that soon,

If it does make it out in 2010, why would Bethesda shoot themselves in the foot and release two games the same day.

Gamebryo is getting old, it's a shame they won't have a new one for this game.

This is hot hot hot news :flamethrower:

..and I think theres a solid consensus on what people's expectations are...traditional rpg writing and mechanics with some modern rpg razzle, I really hope we get what we want. :)
