Finally, a real fallout game

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 8:23 pm

2 Things,

1) You can get CSA as long as you figure out the way to get in, not necessarily at 2nd Battle of Hoover Dam.

I never knew that... I would assume friendly with the NCR would help, and I kinda rushed my NCR run :(

2) The OA simulation is suppose to be exaggerated and all over the place, the CSA's capability could have been less; the FO3 one could have been a rare one which have proper optical camouflage.

I could see that it could have been used as a 'prograndic kick' to get the gov. to really put money down on stealth boy development. Would be a stretch, but what in this game isnt ;) .

Actually, I am furious that games fail to evolve as the industry progress. If the development cycle is close like the old days why not, but these two monster mentioned above are nothing but big [censored] in the face of creativity and technological advance.

But than I realize I also love some game that takes a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPScPaInWOI.

Where is the difference?

The later don't pretend they are $60 "full size" games. Nor they give player a faction of the experience, nor they make players to pay for their "features", nor they kill features in the name of IP protection.

Just don't get me started on Blizzard.

What you're missing is that there are people who like a certain type of game and want more of those. Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc did not "evolve" when they went 3d. They became completely different games that just have the window dressing and some similiar mechanics to the old games. I don't play those games anymore. . .

Just because you slap a name and some paint on a game a new game that is completely different from an old one, that does not mean that the old one "evolved" into the new one.

Yeah but those 4 things make up 70% of the story (and you forgot about the war between NCR, and the brotherhood).

I am not saying NV is not different then Van Buren's story.

All I am saying is, that FO:3 was not just a copy/paste, and FO:NV is not this super bundle of originality.

I to feel that FO:NV is better then FO:3, but most of the reasons people give are nothing but old company really devoted fan'ism.

The story in FO:3 was fine. It fit well into the Fallout World, and moved it further along.

***edit***

LOL they edited 'that' word... that cracks me up :D

Knock a zero off that 70% and you'd be much closer to what FNV actually recycles from Van Buren.

FO3 wasn't just copy-paste, but there was a lot of stuff from the previous games, particularly in relation to the main storyline. Get kicked out of a Vault, go on a quest to solve a water shortage, find a GECK then defeat the Enclave who are using the exact same plan from Fallout 2 except with water instead of air (which manages to make a lot less sense in the process). There's a fair bit of similarity there.

Compare the plots of Van Buren and FNV and you'll find literally nothing in common.

I would say that New Vegas has a more of a fallout feel then 3 did. Like today at the Yangtze Memorial I went toe to toe with a Radscorpion and I used a Machete against it good times.

..yeah, like iron sights, and the game being meant to be played 1st person and all...

I'll be happy as long as Obsidian gets to keep making FO games, but I don't think the franchise is "healthier than its ever been" in any sense but sales.

I guess what I mean by healthy is the potential for more Fallout. Unlike back in the day when Black Isle and Interplay went out of business and I honestly thought I would never see another Fallout, ever. Today there are two companies who have developed and created games, and both are still solvent.

But I enjoyed SC2 :sadvaultboy:

You should have played Fallout 3 longer than a few hours. Getting out of the vault was pretty boring, but after that Fallout 3 gets alot better and it blows New Vegas away--New Vegas is just DLC for Fallout 3, a very broken, buggy and glitchy DLC.

How many times do you gonna repeat that?, also, we played FO3 for long years we dont need an advice for that

People are different, you enjoyed SC2, good for you, cause you got more games to play.

Grumpy fan who love what Blizzard was doesn't.

I love Fallout NV myself, but I also loved Fallout 3. Its interesting to me that for so many people, its "either/or" and to compliment one, they feel utterly compelled to insult the other. I must be pretty simple myself, because I am not seeing a significant enough difference between games to like one better OR hate one more. I just love them both. The only real differences that I see are mainly regional as far as I can tell, based on my research of the franchise's lore.

No offense but I never really liked the top down turn based Fallout. I mean the story and feeling was superb but I liked the Fallout 3 style of gameplay much better. Now Fallout 3 was a good game but it wasn't "Fallout." The gameplay was new and exciting but the story and feeling just wasn't as present as 1 and 2.

Fallout New Vegas changed all that. It added the gameplay element I very much enjoyed from Fallout 3, ironed out the peeves, and even had the true feeling of Fallout to the game. This is probably one of THE true "Fallout" games that haves both the feeling and the gameplay I so loved from Fallout. Now if only I could continue the game without mods.

I have to say that if the gameplay in Fallout: New Vegas is any indication of what Obsidian can do with this series, I'll be happy to buy their games from here on out.

I started the series with Fallout 3 and played it for months with hours of joy drawn from it but New Vegas takes the cake. I would like to see Bethesda and Obsidian doing work together. Whatever they could come up with would be great.

Now they just have to make the sequel with a new engine.

And an unlockable turn-based setting! For when you complete the game on hardcoe mode.

Oh, I burst in rage all the time when I see these ancient series' keep with their roots. I mean, how dare they, in these times of innovation. When they sould be evolving into FPS' or the sort, they decide to stick with the old -------- they're sure doomed in the market, no-one will ever buy them and they will be shunned with their ancient design philosophies - I mean, look at them, obvious DLC [censored] for the masses.... I'm so glad Bethesda knows - or at least has a gist of - how to handle these things! :P

Yup, but without her i would've preferred if the excellent reason to keep your mouth shut was only removed at the conclusion of the quest.

I guess people like Fallout 1-2 better because they werent mainstream. Its like finding a music artist you like that is sort of underground and then they become famous and you say that theyve changed and now their music isnt good. Some people only like things because they want to like something first or like something that others dont. In reality had Interplay/Black Isle survived they would have had to adapt the game for the changing market, i dont know of too many top down, turn based, open world RPGs exist in today's gaming world. If you bring up the fact that Interplay would have made a better game because of the writing then please provide me with some sort of example.

Diablo III is going to be top down and no I dont think thats the reason why people think Fallout 1/2 are better in comparison to 3/NV.

I think fallout new vegas is good and definitely better than 3 but i still think it could have been better. I love the writing and voice actors but some of the gameplay mechanics bothered me.

I highly doubt Obsidian had a lot of wiggle room with how much they could alter the base mechanics. Let's be frank, Bethesda tapped a large market and they wouldn't want to upset that balance by allowing Obsidian to divert from that "winning formula" too much. I feel that Obsidian did the best they could do while being held to the current engine and core gameplay limitations. I still prefer this to FO2.

The ONLY thing Fallout 3 did better than New Vegas was, ironically, the crafting. Everything else is better in New Vegas. I guess the difference between the two games is like the difference between the two companies; Obsidian like making games, Bethesda like making money. I can't really bring myself to compare this game to the oldies, because that'd be like comparing a movie to a book, but I do enjoy books more than movies. The only thing that'd make New Vegas perfect is, in my opinion, top-down turn-based combat, but gaming industry has "evolved" too much for that mechanic ever to be used again. If this is the future, I'd rather keep living in the past:

Obsidian like making games, Bethesda like making money.

After I played Oblivion for the first time (first ES experience), I would've said you're madder than a hatter. After playing Morrowind for the first time (second ES game), I would've been on the fence. After playing Fallout 3 (first Fallout experience), I would've been between the first and second response. After playing 1/2/NV, I have to completely agree...

I'm really sad to say it, but the Bethesda that created games like Morrowind is gone, ashes in the wind. From the ashes arises a phoinex... I preferred the old cult-classic game studio to the new shiny game studio. Because the old one produced games that I could say were the best games I had ever played. Now, they're merely ones in a sea of others...

I liked Fallout 3, but it lacked decent FPS qualities, like with the [censored] zoom. But Fallout New Vegas hit my soft spot. Epic story, believeable characters, iron sights, realistic damage (kinda), loads of quests. I really like it, my only complaint is Cazadores, WAAAAY too overpowered.
