What the heck is going on this year? I've noticed that Best Buy, Walmart, and GameStop have leaked their Black Friday advertising -- and there's nothing for PC users being advertised. Then Bethesda joins the movement with,
"November 17, 2010 (Rockville, MD) – Bethesda Softworks?, a ZeniMax? Media company, today announced that Dead Money, the first downloadable content for Fallout?: New Vegas?, will be available exclusively on Xbox LIVE? for the Xbox 360? video game and entertainment system from Microsoft beginning December 21, 2010."
Are manufacturers **trying** to wean us off of PCs entirely? Or are Micro$oft, Nintendo, et al paying them to NOT promote anything PC?
This whole entertainment genre started with PCs. Why are we being left behind and left out? Why is Bethesda supporting the trend?
Because Micro$oft wants it this way. I don't know much about what Nintendo is doing in its attempt to compete with the PC as a gaming platform other than refusing to let Zelda and Mario games be ported to the PC (ancient news that no one cares about), but this is all Micro$oft's doing. Micro$oft doesn't want ANY PC content available for games that don't use GFWL. But you know what? If this is what it takes to keep GFWL the heck off of my games and to continue to have the benefits of Steam as DRM (including our ability to always DL a free back up copy of the game if we lose our disk and NOT having to have the disk in our PC to play it) over SecuROM with NO such benefits and plenty of problems and always HAVING to have the disk in our PC, then so be it. I would rather wait for the DLC. Micro$oft and Bethesda will NOT get my money for any non-PC related Fallout or Elder Scrolls product EVER again. Until now I always bought two copies of any Bethesda game, one for my PC and then later, one for my Xbox, but never ever again.
Not that it matters much but I'ld still like to contribute by saying that you console guys deserve a DLC first... though I wouldn't have gone with an Xbox exlusive but a console exlusive DLC.
It's only fair because us PC gamers have mods... just my 2 Legion Denarius though.
Why do they "deserve" it? PC gamers get screwed right and left these days when it comes to games and content. I think its only fair that we get the ability to mod our games. We simply thought that Bethesda was one of the last developers that had our backs. That is at least partly why we are so up in arms about it. Besides, why should we be punished because we choose to use the gaming platform that is conducive to modding? We all know the real reason here, and its all about Micro$oft's money. This is why even console users who use the PS3 are being screwed. Its not really about who has the better platform, or about who deserves the DLC the most. Xbox users are being favored simply because the console they use is put out by Micro$oft, Bethesda's new buddy that they are so overjoyed (according to Pete Hines) to be partnered up with. And this is what Micro$oft wants.
