1.2 for PC delayed until console patches go live?

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 8:19 pm

This is posted up top in the stickies about Patch 1.2, and also on the twitter for Pete Hines:

"Wanted to let everyone know that the next PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 updates have been submitted for certification, and that the PC patch is coming too. The current estimate is that they will be live the week after Thanksgiving. "

Why do we have to wait two weeks if the patch is done? So we can sync it up with the console patches? This console crap has got to stop.
The week after thanksgiving?
Are they freakin' kidding me?

I bought the game at release and it was completely unplayable since then. None of the supposed fixes worked.
And now I have to wait 3 weeks for a patch that maybe doesn't even cover any of the problems I have?

What a joke.

Oh for the love of Talos, can you guys stop whining about console priority and such stuff!

1, Nobody said anything is delayed.
2, The hardware is different, therefore the bugs are different and the patches are also different. Sure there are some common issues, but there are hardware-related things to fix which are different by each port.
3, There are gazzillions of hardware combinations that exist on the PC which cannot be said for consoles so do the math.
4, Console patches not only have to pass Beth Q&A but also Sony/MS certification which takes time. While those to are checking the patch themselves, Beth has a bit more time to fine-tune the PC patch and have all three online at the same time.

'nuf said, go get a life!

I would bet you $100 that if the SDK had been released already there would be hundreds of bug fixes out by now.
Certainly, but those are only quest fixes or other ingame bugs. They don't deal with stability issues, driver issues and other things that are things neither the PS3 or the 360 have to deal with, and that the PC patch no doubt have some kind of involvement in. So I ask again, what makes you think the PC patch is done?

Now what it fixes, we won't know, but any fix is better then none at the moment
I wish everyone felt that way. I can promise you that there will be just as many complaint threads post-patch as there are pre-patch.

Many people asked why I would think the PC patch is done just because the PS3 and 360 ones are?

The answer is simple: what have they done differently for the pc until this point? why wouldn't it all be done at the same time, just as the game was. Patch the 360, port patch to PC, move on. Am I right?

Unless they're still working on the PC patch since it obviously needs more personalized work.

You complain about all the problems then complain about how they're taking the time to fix them. Huh.

@Musaab: Easy answer: Xbox 360 and PS3 hardware is the same. PC hardware is all different. Tweaking the game to work on all hardware is a lot harder than you might think.

While you may be correct about the patch itself not being more difficult, would you care to visualize the test process for the different platforms and rethink you stance. PS3 and X360 are SET peices of hardware that (theoretically) only require a single test platform each. How many differnt test platforms would you consider "enough" when testing the PC version? 5, 25, 100, 500? Stop kidding YOURSELF.
Oh lord, I never knew fixing a quest or making something work as intended had anything to do with hardware. Oh what ever will I do, will them fixing the broken murder quest in Windhelm force me to have to upgrade my PC because my PC won't run the game anymore? Yeah... Right.

Think before you post nonsense.

They don't need to test it on any more PCs than they would 360/PS3.

Considering TES started on PC and they have the most knowledge with PC, it being harder to patch PC is a complete load of crap. Stop kidding yourself.

Amazing how quickly people forget that the PC platform isn't a fixed system and can have a massive amount (trillions maybe?) of possible configurations? It's what makes developing for the PC so much harder than developing for the consoles, it's simply impossible to test every possible PC configuration!

Maybe PC sales would skyrocket if these f^$%ing imbeciles would give people a reason to want a PC again. Of course people aren't spending money on a good gaming system. What are they going to use it for? Witcher 2 and Crysis? Over a grand to play 2 games? I hate the way the corporate machine works. Some things in life should NOT be tainted by money and sales (video games, music, and movies ALL suffer because of these corporate twits).

Hopefully some form of indie gaming company with a LOT of know how will emerge soon and pump out some games that will dominate our computers (doubting this though).

I really hope this patch 1.2 will be a real patch, not a piece of junk with lie changelog. I hope they improve performance, and they put the shadows and other stuff to be rendered by GPU.

And exactly how much software have you developed for the PC? None? Thought so. Do you honestly think that Bethesda could bang out a large patch in three weeks when it took them 5 years to make the game in the first place? BE PATIENT! Bug fixes and stability issues take time to isolate, fix, test, and implement so next time you feel like spouting off on something you don't really know anything about I would suggest keeping your mouth shut.

hopefully, yes. As it takes so much longer with the PC patch, I wonder if they'll add something else too it to, besides just fixes?

Calm down guys, previously the pc patches have been usually the fastest, esp. XBox often takes ages to patch because it has to go through Microsofts QA.

well to address some of the points made in the first few posts:

- I dont think the PC is necessarily weak in sales. looking at steam′s user statistics, skyrim DOMINATES other games. more than double the players of modern warfare 3, and above and beyond anything else that′s being played. And thats the concurrent user statistics. I cant speak for the consoles, but for skyrim i would say its been a very successful release on the PC as well, and thus we should see some care from bethesda, seeing how the TES community has also always been a very big, active, and mod-friendly one in the past.

- I would hope they dont simply deplay the PC patch until the console one is certified, but instead keep working on issues until it is ready for release on the PC, and give us a bigger batch of fixes. For me, i havent experienced much issues outside the frequent CTDs and missing textures/normal maps. well, besides a markarth guard wanting to cut me down for a 40 septim trespassing fee despite me yielding, but that might be random AI glitches.

Skyrim doesn't need to pump my computer, in fact from all the information i've gathered in these forums, its light on resources, but its just not utilizing the hardware correctly. Fix that and the improvements would roll in :)

You can get the PC patch as DLC from Steam at $3.99... it's coming soon.

more than double the players of modern warfare 3

Ummm... that's because most people have already played MW3... it's called MW1, MW2 and MW:BlackOps. Ziinnnnnnnggg!!!!

Besides, MW has what... max 8 hours of gameplay for single player? Compare that to 300 hours of Skyrim. =D

Oh regarding the MP aspect of MW3... refer back to my previous statement of MW1, MW2 and BlackOps. =P

Well thats just great I can't get over 5 minutes of play without crashing.

Anyway without Steam releasing their figures it is unsure what did the worst.

I know from my friend's most didn't buy Skyrim and bought MW3 and the ones that did are playing it on Xbox 360 and not PS3 infact most of my PS3 friends have never even heard of the Elder Scrolls series but they know Fallout.

In my opinion I think PS3 had the worst sales. In my opinion most of the PC gamers know and love the Elder Scrolls series infact most of the World of Warcraft players I have pvssyd with say they own a copy and are playing it.

Unfortunately those days are long gone and most likely won't be back. I don't like it but that's just how it is nowadays.

These days Bethesda has very little knowledge of how to properly develop games for the pc. All they know is the console, and in this day and age that's their bread and butter. Like it or not, that's what we're stuck with.
