1.2 for PC delayed until console patches go live?

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 8:12 pm

people need to just Please continue, my good sir. and be content with knowing that a patch is coming, self entitled whining gamers crying over which platform gets what first or last is is pathetic to see.. they don't need to tell us anything about a patch coming.. nor whats in it, it's a courtesy.

Neither does it help to call people pathetic and "self entitled whining gamers" when all we feel entitled to is what we paid for - a game we can actually play without constant CTDs.

chill the [censored] out
Once again, proposal rejected. Still pissed off.

This is posted up top in the stickies about Patch 1.2, and also on the twitter for Pete Hines:

"Wanted to let everyone know that the next PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 updates have been submitted for certification, and that the PC patch is coming too. The current estimate is that they will be live the week after Thanksgiving. "

Why do we have to wait two weeks if the patch is done? So we can sync it up with the console patches? This console crap has got to stop.
Who said the PC patch is done? They said, "The PC patch is coming too." Too does not equal done.

It's not a courtesy to bring a title you released to a playable state.
It's a requirement on release day.
If that isn't the case there need to be fixes on the way as fast as possible.

It's also not entitlement to expect your purchased product to function properly.
Not even whining or anything. I'm a big fan of Bethesda games, and I know what a mess they usually are in the first weeks/months, but the point still stands.

Releasing a very buggy PC version alongside the console releases saves them money, plain and simple. This is about revenue-- focus on the cash cow versions to maximize profit, and let the PC users do the beta testing for them. In the end, who gives a [censored]? PC gamers are immediately cast as whiners and pirates, game companies could drop PC versions completely and still churn out a healthy profit. That's the reality of the situation, and there's no use whining about it.

*But*-- what bothers me is that there are developers who consistently release less buggy PC versions and developers who consistently release more buggy PC versions. We all know which side Bethesda falls on-- if you're going to do something, do it right. The "trillions of possible PC configurations!" argument is bogus because there are currently hundreds of users experiencing game breaking crashes across multiple system types. A week after release and there is thirteen pages of users posting the issue, how many are silent about it?

Years ago I had learned not to buy certain games at release from certain developers-- with Skyrim I couldn't resist, and oh well, I have to wait a bit longer.

Demanding, hoping and guessing are all failure strategies. We just have to wait. At least we got an update.

Wish in one hand and [censored] in the other and see which one fills up the quickest.

PC games sell for years, Console games sell for a couple months if you are lucky.

In the long run PC as profitable if not more profitable than consoles. People are still buying oblivion on the computer.

Yep. I wasn't expecting some kind of perfect bug-free experience, I loved Daggerfall, Morrowind etc... regardless of bugs, and I love what I've seen of Skyrim so far. Even if it just had functioned somewhat most of the time it would have been fine by me.

But to want it not to CTD every few minutes, I really do not think this is too much to ask. And all those little self-satisfied jerks who think I'm not supposed to whine about it can go shove it somewhere.

God, shut up. It's any wonder they even bother with the PC crowd...nothing is ever good enough for some of you people.

Do you have any idea how many more variables have to be considered for a large PC patch to a massive and complex game like Skyrim? The game has only been out 7 days....they probably don't even have a good grasp of the PC issues let alone know how effectively fix them.

Oh and yes, I am a PC gamer myself. Just calm down.

I have to agree

What's the source on this? Steam doesn't release their sales figures, so I'm pretty sure it's impossible to say what platform performed the worst unless Bethesda releases the numbers.
Steam doesn't release hard data but they do have a "current players" stat, for anyone playing at a given time. ~250k at the same time was the highest I saw(release day), and some people I know haven't even installed it yet.

Chances are a lot of PC users knew about Bethesda's... problems, and are waiting for patches to buy it.

Except that they tested the console versions alot more before release than they did the PC version. So PC probably has alot more issues. I bet the patch will be twice as big. Or you know, they could release it at the same time and fix alot less...

Even though the fact that I'll have to wait between 7 and 14 days for the PC patch is killing me...
At least now we all know when the patch is going to be live (even if they say that it is ESTIMATED to go live on the week after thanksgiving, meaning that nothing is sure yet).
Let's just pray together that it will fix all the worst bugs, crashes being first.
After the 15th crash to black screen, i stopped playing Skyrim completely. Can't afford destroying my pc for a game, even if it's as great as Skyrim is.

Actually I just noticed he never said that PC comes out last. He simply said it's the only one that has yet to be submitted. He did say "They will ALL be live the week after thanksgiving.' which could be all by then, but at different times, or they all get released at the same time that week.

Not sure if someone already posted it as I didn't read the whole thread, but for those arguing steam sales figures :

PC has the fewest sales and is by far the hardest to patch. So this doesn't surprise me one bit.

There are more pc users than xbox and ps3 users combined registered on this website. Also, sales figures don't include digital sales. I know I purchased mine via steam after the cloth map debacle.

For what it's worth, all my crashes and texture issues stopped once I hacked the TESV.EXE file to use more than 2GB of RAM which of course begs the question...why the hell was it not allowed to use more than 2 as default? Either really bad decision for some unknown reason (such as the fps issues) or just plain laziness and lack of quality control.

P.S. Bought mine on Steam. :)

Want to link to a source that clearly shows PC sales including boxed sales as well as the countless Digital sales which are VERY VERY high, for in fact steam is required but doesn't necessarily mean everyone will log in at once... nor install it at ones.

I actually know of 4 people personally that picked up skyrim as a birthday/Christmas gift for those with PCs..

If i were to guess, i wouldn't have doubts that the PC version will either by now or soon have more sales Combined that outweigh the xbox/ps simply due to one major thing..... Mods.....

skyrim has broken the steam record for most players logged in during a single day for a game.

Thats pretty awesome, considering that black ops required steam, and lots of other games also did.

So in other words, because they wanted to release the game on the `really cool` date of 11.11.11, it really should have been released on 01.12.11

Probably because 64 bit systems are still not the standard. The moment Microsoft stops making 32 bit OSs, then developers will start to take advantage of the 64 bit capabilities which allows programs to use more then 2gb of ram. Some developers are nice enough to take advantage of the 64 bit systems as well, but of course Bethesda spent more time with the console version which are outdated hardware by a few years.
