Greybeard's Robe

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 9:47 pm

Why can't I get one? If I had to start the Main Quest to get one I would understand but you can't get it unless you're using console command. Why? It looks so cool and mystic. It would fit my character perfectly.

Well, since being a Greybeard means that you have to agree to shut yourself up on the mountain for the rest of your life and meditate, Bethesda may have thought it wasn't a particularly compelling gameplay option.

Why can't you get one?
Well - because Bethesda didn't make it available to the player.

It's hardly a gamebreaker so I would definitely call it a stretch
to say that Bethesda 'dropped the ball'.

Sorry, I meant based on attire in the game overall. Still can't see why I can't just take one. Surely they must have some reserves.

Sure. They just give out their official club robes to everyone who knocks on the door.

I think they would make an exception for the Dragonborn. If they agree to train me for that reason then I don't think they would make a fuzz about one robe.

But since Bethesda wrote the game, they get to make that choice. I happen to agree that it doesn't make any sense to give someone the robe of the Greybeards if they aren't actually prepared to devote themselves to that life.

If your on the PC just download a mod that makes those items playable and console it into the game. I wanted an unenchanted Thieves Guild hood, so that's what I did. :)

I disagree. It's a robe. I could probably make it myself it I had that option. As far as I can tell it doesn't even have any enchantments.

I play on PS3 so I can't. Only thing I miss from PC is console command.

It's a robe that symbolizes your membership in an order that devotes itself to a monastic lifestyle of complete isolation. It doesn't matter if it's enchanted or not; it's a symbol.

I know that you think it would be really cool to get it, but the Greybeards don't seem like the type to have honorary members.

It's a worn down robe. If it was something special about it I would understand. As the Dragonborn I feel (IMO) that I should get one. Or make one myself. Also it's nothing special about it so it would be very plausible to find one, or similar, in the wild, shops, on a dead monk/mage.

If it was just a worn down robe with nothing special about it, you wouldn't want it in the first place. And it's clearly special, since only the Greybeards wear it. You won't find one of them wandering the wilderness, so you won't find that robe lying around on a corpse somewhere.

Of course I still want it. I want it because of the look of it. It's nothing special about it. And I said you could find one similar. It's very hard for me to believe that only the Greybeards wears some sort of monk robes.

Using arguements like "I should" isn't going anywhere. There will always be "I should"s. This is one, but if they included this you'd be here "I should"ing about something else. They have to draw the line somewhere to make the game playable on older computers and platforms. Enjoy the game you have access to, and quit worrying about what you want to have that you can't. Really... parents need to start telling their kids "no" again.

You would think they greybeards would own a spare robe but i've searched every inch of high hrothgar disappointedly

I'm 22 years old. This post is about a robe in a video game. If you feel the need to make this thread about how parents raising their kids then go find something else to do.

I'm 22 years old.

I'm likely older than your parents then. What's wrong with your generation is that they think that everything that makes sense to them must be right, and anything that contradicts their world view should be ignored rather than thought about. Think about your issue here. Is it really an issue, or are you simply trying to make it one? I could say that I should be able to collect bark from the lumber mills and build a pile of it somewhere. I should. Why didn't the designers allow me to collect bark? I can collect bark in real life!

Even if the developers allowed me to collect bark, I'd be able to find something else to complain about. Skyrim is a computer game, and thus you have to learn to work with it's limitations. If you want the freedom to do anything that you can concieve of, play a table top roleplaying game with a very tolerant referee.

Age and generation has nothing to do with this. I should be able to get a robe from the Greybeards. Does that mean that I just made it an issue? No. I wrote something on a forum to voice my opinion and to see if others agree or disagree. Actually, you're the one making this an issue.

If you can't discuss properly without going into kids, age, generation and how my parents raised me (which they did very well) then don't comment in this thread. It's not what I created this thread for.

Do you not see the contradiction in saying "It's not special," and "I want it because of the look?"

And how is it hard for you to believe that only the Greybeards wear these robes? Do you see anyone else in Skyrim wearing them? No? Then no one else wears them.

The Greybeards may not formally give you one, but they should have a few just lying around that they wouldn't flip out and shout you to death should you pick it up. And no, thinking something looks good is not the same as saying somethings special. A good bacon sandwich is good, but it's not special.

Show up in forsworn armor and say you are freezing :)

As an PC user I have more recolored greybeard's robes than I need.

Worse someone made an skimpy version of the forsworn armor  Yes it's posible, no it's not needed.

i'd love a suit of grey beard robes, i don't particuarly care if it makes sense or not. Hell obsidian gave out all the sweet uniques in honest hearts, i'm sure bethesda could have at least slapped an extra robe in a set of drawers, unless there are only five(?) suits in existentense, and the graybeards never remove their robes or change them

In the op's defense at least he wasn't asking why he couldn't merge with a fifty foot mechanical dragon and blow the top off high wrothgar instead of a simple robe
