Having any issues with 1.4

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 9:05 pm

thought it would be nice to have a list of any issues that people are having as more people get the patch. So far I've only seen positive things about the patch and congratz to bethesda for that but I'd still like to make sure this won't explode my ps3 before I download it.

Just got done downloading.

Sweet! My file size went from 17MB to 15 instantly! That's a good sign.

Walking sounds sometimes drop out completely. It's like suddenly your character has become so light he can walk without causing any noise. Weird

PS3 reboot fixes that eventually.

That was a glitch? That's happened to me since I first got the game on release day.

The lag seems to be gone, although it laged badlly in the Brotherhood place. This was a one time thing though, and didn't lag after that. (the same room). I also noticed the difference after i leave a house and cave. I find myself though "looking for" problems. This is so far so good. It's a shame that this took a few months so PS3 fans can get the "feeling" of Skyrim, as Bethesda keeps putting it. I have still lost faith in Bethesda, and wont buy a new game from them again.

The one ring thing is a pain to me, too, being a former D&D geek. I got over it, though. Not like I can't enchant enough items to make up for it.

It's either the only guy who posted problems was trolling, or he didn't even download the patch. Whatever anyway downloading it right now.

shadows on walls of buildings in windhelm seem broken. there are strange bands or shadows that shimmer very noticeably with movement. the shadows seem to be displaying garbage. I know what the shadows should look like so don't mistake this as just the normal low res look of the shadows. when I get closer to the walls the shadow glitch disappears. I also had a glowing tabletop of an enchanting table in the market district of windhelm that corrected itself with a fast trave (EDIT) I now have encountered another glowing arcane enchanter tabletop in dragonsreach. I also noticed some minor instances of some strange looking geometric lines dancing across the larger moon in the sky.

edit. In whiterun, at night when I get close to a building illuminated by torch ligh,t the light cast on the building will suddenly dim by probably about 25% when I get within about 30 feet or so.

Edit: entered blackreach from an adjacent dungeon and all the lighting had been removed. just a brightly lit and almost colorless environment. no shadows at all.
exited and than re entered blackreach and every thing was as normal again.

No lag at all after an hour of playing. I can actually run through Riften for the 1st time in a while.

Much, much better. Loading is faster too.

But other than the manequins and bookshelves, I haven't noticed anything different anywhere else. I'm still stuck with the instruments in my inventory. And none of my broken misc. quests have updated. Oh well. I'm probably stuck with those as is. But at least I can play in the open world part of the game now.

I can still get my deadric arrows from the guards in Solitude too. So they didn't mess with that.

So far, I'm satisfied.

I am a little troubled here. My save file had like 31 mb. I downloaded the patch, made another save file, reseted, waited 72 hours and then my save file went to 33 mb and the lag seems to be worse!

This is what I could check. I installed the patch, waited 80 hours, saved, restarted the PS3:

UP:
- The lag totally disappeared. I played for a couple of hours and that was more than enough to get into a slide-show. Now it seems at a steady 30 fps with some very rare drops.
- The Companion quest opened up automatically as soon as I entered the building. The two companions were still outside watching the Silver-hands body.
- The Mannequins are working.
- The bookshelves alwasy worked for me, so that I can't say.

DOWN:
- The Windhelm house is still a big mess. The room still has all the ugly stuff who did the quest knows.
- The inventory is still messy. It keeps the instruments for the bards' quests, the gems don't group together. Hopefully the witches' heads will move away since now I am progressing with the quest
- Shadowmere is lost for good. he just doesn't appear back.
- The loading times are as bad as usual.

Basically the game isn't just playable, it plays WELL now. Sometimes i even have the feeling that the graphics improved. Maybe because of the smoother fps (or maybe the textures get streamed faster). Too bad that I already plat'ed the game. But I made a new character to build as a mage. But she will be on hold until after I complete FF XIII-2 (which loads from Blu Ray and takes half the time in the worst cases. How do they do that??).

Still got ash piles in the streets of Markarth. But weapons racks work in a house they never worked in before.

And after 2 hours it's still running pretty smooth. I forgot what it was like to run without it feeling like a strobe light.

I just want to emphasize to you all that all broken quests, etc. will stay broken no matter the patch. This is because that data is stored in your save file, and Bethesda cannot get into every individual, unique save file to fix them.

Well guys, I was really hoping this patch would smooth things out. I had made a second character to mess around with until the lag was fixed but it seems after the patch, even that character has lag now. I just downloaded the patch tonight and the game is practically unplayable. I am SO very disappointed because I absolutely love this game and so do my kids. Problems I encountered: Manequins actually were off their pedestals in my Riften house and moved like an NPC when I bumped them, frame drop seems to have increased since my newest character was not having issues till post 1.4, using the forge broght up the message about what the forge is used for even though my smithing is maxed out, I still can not complete the Loud and Clear quest because I can not burn a third hive, I still can not complete the Companions quest because I can not get past beating the crap out of Vilkus. This is absolutely too much to deal with and I am tired of waiting to be able to play on the PS3. My feelings right now are to refund the game for PS3 and Bootcamp my MAC so I can play on the CPU since that seems the ONLY way to be able to play this game. As much as I appreciate Bethesda's support and efforts to improve the game, I don't feel I will ever purchase a PS3 game created by Bethesda again. So sorry we couldnt work things out.

Fort Sungard quest still broken, no troops to meet, no imperials to kill, dead end on the Civil War campaign.
On good notes, bookshelves are finally fixed, and I now paid off my 5 gold bounty in Marketh and can use the city again.
Overall bang up job, so worth the wait!

I've downloaded the patch and went through all the creating a new save file mumbo jumbo. Waited for 4 gaming days, saved again, blah blah blah. Well it turns out the game is FREEZING every 20-30min, it's getting really frustrated to the point I gave up on playing it.

All you people who get game freezes... go into your saved data folder on your PS3 and delete any old save files and autosaves.
Only keep your most recent save game file... that fixed the issue for me before the 1.4 patch came along.

I will continue to do this from time to time, doesn't hurt keeping your memory free anyway. lmk if it works for ya!
