How are the Legion a threat to the NCR again?

Post » Mon May 30, 2011 1:31 pm

SPOILERS below:

I felt the same way in the end. I mean it felt like this massive legion army just never materialised. I guess due to engine limitations, but then again other limited game engines have achieved a grand scale using waves of enemies. Oddly enough there is reference to the Legion using such tactics of wave after wave of enemies, that's what I was expecting in the final fight :/

The biggest threat the legion seemed to possess was superior numbers, the game didn't pull that off imo.

The Legion infiltration on the other hand did feel right, they seemed to have spies in all the right places and had me wondering who might be working for the legion.

And the Legion?
They have a bunch of punks in football uniforms, mangy dogs, and a riffle-man here and there.

You could argue that theres more of them, so what?
Who would win in real life, a soldier with a ak47 or 10 idiots charging him with knifes?

I really felt stupid fighting them in the end, I gathered ALL possible allies.
How do you take on a military force with a bunch of sticks and harsh attitude?

Have you seen the NCR dogs?

I don't think you have judging from your post.
The Legion? Yes they have more of them, So what? Numbers AND Quality would win a war, An Idiot with a gun that does'nt know how to use it is'nt going to do well, A well-trained person with a knife would be pretty effective compared. (If you did'nt figure it out, NCR is the idiot with the gun, And Legion is the person with a knife.)

A bunch of sticks? I don't think you've paid attention to the Legion, They have Chainsaws, Balistic fists, and 12.7MM Pistols, Subs, Anti-Materiel Rifles, Magnums, Riot Shotguns, Hunting Shotguns, and etc.

Plus, They also have good Intel, Unlike the NCR.

KHAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

Okay, So i'm going to try and not flip out about whoever is saying that the Legion should die.

But to clear things up, NCR is corrupt, they do drugs, they steal supplies (Some troopers.), they have crap training, and are poorly supplied (Aside from the NCR Rangers.) SOOOOOOO, Now onto the Legion..

The Legion:
Better Training.
Better Equipment.
Better Loyalty.
Better Supplied.
Trained from Birth.
If they are captured they must kill themselves. (Aside from Silus, Who was scared too.)
They have infintrated the NCR.I'de say they are a threat.

I just got done wasting everyone on the game in terms of easiest faction to destroy were the Legion agreed they have all of the above it still doesn't stop me from killing all of em......

Thats true especially for a House / Yes man playthrough it's a tad harder on a NCR one ( but only just, and I used lower damage weapons that one ).

However the NCR's npc's are just nerfered especially later on in game.
And have far greater numbers due to having a FoB in just about every area, and large bases in most settlements.

NCR elite rangers are stronger and tougher than Deathclaws, with probably just the same amount of health due to silly buffs and are equiped with the best ranged weapons in game with infinite ammo.
NCR rangers in ordinary armour have a DT of 30 making them more powerfull than Giant radscorpions.
The first recon has a high rate of fire, and a strong crit chance, as well as strong health and backed up with 10+ troopers when at mcCarran.

The NCR is over powered in game, but I dare say if NPC's followed the same rules as a player character it would be a lot more even fight between the two factions.

Uhhh, we shouldn't bring game mechanics into the discussion. That never works out. Alone for Balance and Gameplay reasons this has to be adjusted.

General information like guns and story related stuff is ok but its really useless to discuss stats.

I think the problem is Obsidian failed to make the NCR and Legion powerful in game, they rely to heavily on 'according to the story _____ is really ____' but in game they fail to deliver.

Fair enough I get carried away, stats are a strong part in how the factions compare though, but this is a general topic on what if as you say, so sorry.

in that chase it would be the soldier, but make it 50 idiots charging him with knifes and 2 idiots shooting him with hunting rifles... yup... your soldier is dead meat.

Alright. So the Legionnaires outnumber the NCR 50:1, right?

/sarcasm

The problem is that even the Legion doesn't have that many men.
Obsidian got really sloppy with the Legion, especially as far as story-telling goes.

?

Once again. There are several Legion members that use guns, they are way better trained and have way higher discipline than the NCR. And it doesn't need 50 soldiers with a knife to kill a man. One takes a bullet is usually already enough time to close the distance or sneak up to the target. Dead.

This happens in the real world often. Its only a question of ability. Furthermore the Legion has the factor of fear.

The only situation where this isn't the case is a large scale group battle. And yes, the legion has shown to use weapons much more then.

Edit: Also Legion members are anything else but stupid. They are schooled in assasination techniques probably quite a bit.

Yeah I think they should have made it nearly impossible to massacre a main faction's main base by yourself.

Actually, the NCR has mangy dogs. The Legion dogs look nice and well cared for. Makes me wonder what they feed them.

The NCR have leaks in their security, how is it possible than some of their member are Legion spies, not to say that some soldier are walking drunken in Vegas or looking for hokers,

Ever met the ranger and his dog at hover dam?

Yup. His dog is mangy and missing fur. Go look at the Legion's dogs. All in good shape.

The thing is I like to keep conversations respectful.
I can understand normal sentences just fine and didn't think

(If you did'nt figure it out, NCR is the idiot with the gun, And Legion is the person with a knife.)

was really necessary.

ceaser is a threat because he is a strong military mind with insanely devoted soilders.no matter how much better equiped an army is it doesnt make up for military tactics the battle at helios one is a testimant to that.even though NCR has numbers most soilders are under trained and dont even want to be their.Ceasers legion soilders want to be their and if their going to die in ceasers service the only thing that would be better is if they kill some NCR soilders with them.thats what makes them a threat.

Because?

Because every Legionarie is automatically evil, and stupid, and not loyal, and don't care, and are too scared of the NCR to use guns.

[/sarcasm]

But really, I think he just is biased to NCR.
EDIT: It was there as a joke silly.

Maybe it's cause he doesn't like to hear the truth, lol. The NCR has their forces spread way to thin. Their training is awful. The capital back in the Core Region doesn't give a damn about the units in New Vegas. NCR are not even able to protect pro-NCR caravans that happen to be right outside of New Vegas. The NCR are only in a position to defend. They are only able to 'hold the line'. They lost Searchlight, they lost Nelson. It would be a matter of time before they lost the other camps along the Colorado, because they are unable to receive backup. Very high ranking officers in the NCR are Legion spies. The Fiends and Great Khans are already allied with the Legion (prior to any influence by the Courier). The pathetic Fiends are even giving Camp McCarran a run for their money. NCR's intel is all jacked up thanks to
Spoiler
Chief Hanlon who has also admitted that the Legion is going to win and wants the NCR to pull out
. There are more facts that show that NCR out in the Mojave is a weak piece of fail, but I think this is proof enough. All of which I have listed are all canon in game (most of which the NCR has admitted of themselves)

I just thought he was too protective of his dog, and obliviously cares for it unlike the legion kennel master.

The Legion cares for their dogs, Anthony has just spent too much time with dogs and probably learned how not to show his feelings for his dogs.

So basically a demoralized, under-equipped, under-trained army fighting far from home that represents a tiny fraction of the NCR's military might guarding a tiny amount of land while led by an idiot (Oliver) is still managing to hold the line against everything the Legion can afford to bring to bear.

Doesn't speak too highly for the Legion's effectiveness.
