How are the Legion a threat to the NCR again?

I was expecting most of the wasteland to be equally divided, but no, the NCR are everywhere, they have better equipment , (better training?), all the fortified positions,
patrols everywhere, hover dam power, snipers, a science devision, medics, power armor, (mr house support?) ...
And they were crying for supplies :D

And the Legion?
They have a bunch of punks in football uniforms, mangy dogs, and a riffle-man here and there.

You could argue that theres more of them, so what?
Who would win in real life, a soldier with a ak47 or 10 idiots charging him with knifes?

I really felt stupid fighting them in the end, I gathered ALL possible allies.
How do you take on a military force with a bunch of sticks and harsh attitude?

The Legion has a lot of infiltration into the NCRs ranks and Caesar can throw as many men at a problem as he wants whereas the NCR has a bureaucracy to answer to and infrastructure to maintain.

In a realistic setting they wouldn't be.

In Fallout they are because people can shrug off bullets.

Well even though a well disciplined army should be able to take out an attacking rabble equiped only with low tech melee weaponry, this doesn't hold true with all situations. If the 'rabble' is able to shrug off or ignore the carnage it will take to reach the well equipped and disciplined army then it can cause havok due to being too close for effective lanes of fire.

During the attack on Hoover Dam you see what I would assume the Legion would use in an attack. They were equally if not slightly better equipped than Ranger Vets.

Yop, furthermore. The Mojave Wasteland is STILL NCR territory during the game so it makes sense that they are only around in scramble. They prepare for the invasion. They are an invading force.

Well basically they are fighting over control of new vegas. Even though much of the wasteland is NCR, House controls the strip and other areas like the dam are under dispute. Legion territory is still heavier in the east but the game doesn't really go into that in too much detail. Hopefully there will be legion DLC, I think they really made NCR the dominant faction in the game just by the sheer number of missions compared to other factions.

Hopefully there will be Legion territory DLC that shows their long term effects. Could really help them as a considerable allies.

It's the NCR that has the mangy dogs. The Legion dogs are in much better shape.

The Legion lifestyle is about emulating the Roman empire. They are physically in very good shape and melee weapons and unarmed fit in with the style they are following. As has been pointed out, and as you will experience if you become hunted by Legion assassination squads they can be very well equipped with powerful ranged weapons.

While Ceasar's Legion has a smaller presence in the Mojave wasteland, it's worth remembering that they control a much larger territory east of the river, where the game's map does not extend, and it's hard to say just how much power and how many troops the Legion has there. Still, I find it a little implausible that the Legion can pose a serious threat to the NCR, given their major disadvantage in terms of equipment and their aversion to prewar medical technology. I could buy them being more of a match if the technological difference were something more along the lines of conventional firearms versus high-tech energy based weapons, or even if Ceasar's Legion was using outdated guns like repeaters or revolvers while the NCR had "modern" firearms, but when one side is dressed in patchwork armor ripping off Roman legionaries and uses sharp metal blades while the other side has guns... well, realistically speaking, I'd say the Legion would need to outnumber their foes pretty badly to avoid being picked off before they could even get close. I guess maybe they'd stand a chance through superior tactics. But while some of the better Legion commanders might be able to bring in such an advantage, if they were killed off, then I'd say the Legion wouldn't stand a chance. Indeed, I recon that the Legion's leaders are the only thing holding it together, kill off the ones at the top, and they'd go right back to the squabbling tribes they were before Caesar came along.

I'd only not hate such a DLC if it offered the player the option to wipe out the Legion once and for all, as they deserve.

And that's part of what bothers me about the Legion. They're trying to emulate an empire that collapsed long ago in a world with laser rifles and power armor. And while the Roman Empire may have done pretty well in its time, I doubt Roman legionaries would stand much chance against soldiers equipped with modern weapons. It's kind of like teddy-bears armed with bamboo technology taking out soldiers from an interstellar empire who use energy weapons and mechs... okay, probably not quite as bad, but you get the idea.

Would screw up the final quest for House, NCR and Independent.

Ever met the ranger and his dog at hover dam?

I'm not counting elite units, just regular soldiers on both sides.
And fallout still can't convince me that melee/unarmed=guns.

I think big portions of the map are left empty so they can be filled by DLC later.

Hmm sabotage may be the only way, I haven't tried the legion quest-line yet

Wouldn't make sense too. The legion has large territory east. You only really see their front line in the game.

One way to do it could be to get a virus from some scientific guy and spread it out amongst the Legion, but it would still take years for it to completely wipe them out.
But yeah I don't see how one could wipe out all legionnaires in the actual game-world, unless they remove respawn for everything.

This is very well written and put across Selbeth, just what I feel about it.
Just to add on, CL has I think three prewar states ( that is rl states not FO canon states ).
New Mexico and Arizona are the two I can recall off hand.
They do destroy / kill more than the NCR, but seem to have better supply routes, tactics in general and have long since wiped out oposition to their causes.
The Centurians though not as tough as Elite ranger ( at least imo ), and their ranged equpment is slightly less good than Rangers they have numbers, and are stronger.
The fort really should have had as many wards as NV whole imo, with different barracks and supliers, but apearently is A much larger and B only one of the whole invasion camps across the colorado.

My thoughts as to who would win, ingame NCR due to God of death npc's / house, if FO was real a stalemate as NCR bled out leading to CL years down the line taking everything.

Who would win in real life, a soldier with a ak47 or 10 idiots charging him with knifes?

in that chase it would be the soldier, but make it 50 idiots charging him with knifes and 2 idiots shooting him with hunting rifles... yup... your soldier is dead meat.

Troopers don't have Ak's.
And Recruits have machetes and varmint/hunting rifles.
Recruits also have throwing spears.

Super sledges.
Slug chambered Riot shotguns.
AP Marksmen.
Chainsaws ( with diamond edged teeth ).
Hunting rifles.
12.7 pistols.
12.7 smg's.
The massive artillary piece on the cliff side.
Assassins in the night.
Grenades if they worked right.
Numbers and the fact that if you have three very strong martial trained warriors in centurion armour twisting your head at awkard angles, PA is still not going to help much.

Power fists.
Shock guantlets.
Ballistic fists.
The fact that NCR PA is not really PA, but has all the drawbacks.
The legion is a lot faster than an ordianary trooper, PA'd ones are dead in the water.

New ones Hunting lances, explosive tipped shock weapons ( guess where I got that from ).

KHAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

Okay, So i'm going to try and not flip out about whoever is saying that the Legion should die.

But to clear things up, NCR is corrupt, they do drugs, they steal supplies (Some troopers.), they have crap training, and are poorly supplied (Aside from the NCR Rangers.) SOOOOOOO, Now onto the Legion..

The Legion:
Better Training.
Better Equipment.
Better Loyalty.
Better Supplied.
Trained from Birth.
If they are captured they must kill themselves. (Aside from Silus, Who was scared too.)
They have infintrated the NCR.

I'de say they are a threat.
