How long did it take you to settle in?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:07 am

I've been here a few days short of a year now, and I feel like I'm just getting to the stage where I can match most people's names to their avatars, and some of their locations and ages and stuff. I also remember the names of almost all of the mods, and know my way around pretty well. I think a few people are starting to remember me as well. How long did it take you guys to reach this stage? Have you even reached it yet?

I've gotten used to this faster than any other forum, because I feel at home here. Really. This is the only one I consistently come to.

As for getting settled in, I'd say about a year.

No. I'm still new here, no one can remember my name and my avatar changes way too often.

As long as it took for me to find CD and spend two weeks here without being told off by a mod. About six months.

I've been here for six years and I still don't know every member by picture alone. Exceptions exist, like all the mods and some easy to remember ones, but I wouldn't do too well if you tested me.

As for the question itself, it took me several years, mainly because I started out in the Morrowind boards, then migrated to the Oblivion ones when that game was announced. Hell, I have around 3,000+ posts from Oblivion General alone. Now I hang around CD and have gotten to know everyone better and, well, "settle in".

On the topic of avatars, I don't even remember what my original one was...In fact, I change avatars quite often. Not as often as, say, Lord Crow, but enough to make it really difficult to identify me easily all the time.

Settled in? Not long I suppose. There were tons of nice people in the Morrowind section (which is basically the only place on these forums I went to), so after a few weeks of posting or so I felt like I knew 'em pretty well, which I suppose is what you mean by 'settled in.'

This was on a different account, by the way. This one is my new(er) one.

Yes. :D

Who the hell are you?

I kid, I kid.

Saurok, I still know you from your avatar of a knight or something you had a while ago. In fact, I remember most people from their old avatars.

I like it here

I think you may have been the first person where I matched your name to your avatar, mainly because it doesn't seem to change as much as everyone elses.

I've been pretty settled in for a while, wasn't instant, but it didn't take long either. I felt like a bit of a moron when I first started posting, now I just live with that.

Knight? Nope I never had knight as my avatar. You must mistake me as someone else.

List of all avatars I've used:

Pre-installed Dremora Avatar
Ronald McDonald pwn by Burger King (removed by Rohugh)
Dremora in Oblivion
Dremora in Oblivion + Snow
Dremora in Oblivion + weird colors
Clan Jade Falcon Logo
Clan Smoke Jaguar Logo (Current)

I should get my old avatar back :(

Speaking of which, Yiasemi's not been on in ages. I don't think she took the Rommel thread very well.

She was on this morning according to her profile. So I think we're safe. This place would collapse without her rapier wit.

I don't think it actually was a knight, but I didn't look that closely - do you have links to any of your recent avatars?

Edit: yeah, it was the Dremora weird colours one, I just didn't look close enough to notice it wasn't a knight

Not too long, maybe 9 months or so. At first I tried to recognize people by their avatars, and I still do to an extent, but people change their avatars far too much around here so I've been forced to remember names. I feel pretty settled in now though.

I've never changed my avatar as a favor to the people who identify me by it. Plus I don't have much of an urge to change it.

..I can say atleast 2 members recognize me by both name and avatar style. Right off the bat I was able to 'jump in' because of the common interest I share with people here.

This forum is keeping it's balance on the question marks she creates with her posts.

It probably wasn't until I moved into community discussion. No one seemed to like me up in Oblivion mods cause I'd always try to start mods and never finish them.

I really don't think I'm a very memorable person around here. Like if you told someone here -except for a couple people maybe- to name off as many users as they can think of that frequent CD, I don't think my name would come up, but regardless I still really like it here.

I still haven't quiet settled in but I do know a good many here by avatars and names. I'm easy to remember as I don't often change avatars and if I do change them its often not so different from my other avatars. I lurked alot though before joining and don't know how much I am known on here (Not much I'm assuming).

:To revolutionfilms: I happen to be watching another episode today of Zero Punctuation and makes me look forward to Wednesday.
