How Is The New Official LAA Patch Working Out?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 2:06 pm

I noticed after this 1.3.10.0 patch the game is not crashing in areas where it used to always crash for me, and the gameplay seems smoother. I have held off updating (I was using 1.1), and I'm glad I decided to use this patch.

The official LAA patch works the same as the Skyrim 4GB mod did. No CTDs at all on Win 7 x64 and ultra settings. No stuttering, bad textures or loss of fps either.

I wanted to update this post. Do these settings (which supposedly allocated more physical RAM under the LAA option) still work/do anything?

iMinMemoryPageSize=100000
iMaxMemoryPageSize=5000000
iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=1800000000

If you can't see a difference, don't use them. I remember having a weird problem (can't recall exactly) that had to do with these three settings. They caused my game to have delayed sounds/animations (like I said can't recall).

It is certainly working wonders for me, I haven't had a crash since the update. (before it was a crash before 30 mins of gameplay)

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39550 <--- I'm also using the Game Companion to run the game in windowed mode.

Zero crashes since the patch in about 4 hours of play. I didn't have the LAA mod before and had only very rare CTDs (coming out of buildings in Whiterun mostly). Not sure if the patch helped anything because my game was already running great.

One odd thing though... When I first load the game up, I get what feels like 10 FPS and terrible responsiveness for about ten seconds. Then it goes away completely and everything is perfectly smooth. This never happened before the patch. Anyone else experiencing this?

My video driver has started crashing with this patch (you know the one where windows takes a turd and then says "Your ATI driver crashed but has now recovered...but your game is screwed"). I'm running two HD 6970 in crossfire with AMD 11.12 driver and latest cap.

Finally installed the patch aaaaand.... 3/4 fps less than before (1.1 patch) in the same "hot" spots, the same issue I had with 1.3.7... already tried deleting .ini files, let the launcher re-create them and apply my custom settings but no change...

But this time I'm not going back to 1.1, the game works fine and a few fps less are not such a problem (even if is kind of a joke that a patch makes the game worse....)

That's odd...it may have something to do with Crossfire. I'm running 11.12, the latest patch, and a single 6970--played for 3+ hours tonight with no issues.

From what I understand, the 12.1 preview drivers contains a few performance fixes for Skyrim when using Crossfire that aren't in 11.12. I normally don't recommend using preview drivers, but in your case I'd suggest trying them and seeing if that fixes your issue.

Edit: Forgot the http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Catalyst121Previewdriver.aspx. Derp! :facepalm:

says it improves both single and crossfire gpu for Skyrim like the poster above said also derp on my part but since a reinstall of the game the 12.1 preview and the 1.3 patch I have not crashed but I have also not really played much either. Will stop back when I have more time played to weigh in.

I decided to give Skyrim another go recently. I've only played Skyrim for less than a week after it's release, so i have only really played the unpatched version. When i played it back in November, i would get 60fps in dungeons and interiors, 50-60 fps in wilderness areas, and more random fps in town 30-60fps.

I don't know what the patch has done, but in the wilderness i'm down to 20-30, which isn't unplayable, but thoroughly unenjoyable.

The game plays fine for 10-15 minutes and then it bloody goes to 10fps and randomly locks up.

The game has gotten worse, brillant game but I can't play it now. I can for 10 or so minutes then its unplayable, breaking any immersion now.

Fairly crappy, I wondered why I had suddenly started having so many crashes.
I've been running vanilla and wasn't having any real problems before but now it crashes 50% of the time when zoning.
5% of the time it doesn't actually bother loading the interior so everyone just falls into the nothing that surrounds the dungeon or it might selectively load pieces of the area. (we didn't need all of those extra walls anyway.)
I didn't run into any of these problems until today.

I think I'll go play Serious Sam 3 until these idiots properly fix things

Installed 1.3.10.0 last night and ran fine for me (3 hours of play). It ran mostly fine previously as well, but it did seem to now have a tad less loading times. The big test will be when I can do some marathon sessions of 5-7 hours of play where I would occasionally end up with a missing texture and would have to reload a save or restart the game to fix it. (Win7 x64 w/4GB RAM).

I did not previously use the LAA patch, so I made no other changes aside from letting Steam do its update. I currently only use one ESP mod (Cowardly Horses) and a couple of minor texture-only mods.

Many nVidia people are reporting much improved gameplay using the new patch with the latest nVidia drivers released today.

64 bit - http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-290.53-beta-driver.html

32 bit - http://www.geforce.com/Drivers/Results/40608

(Remember- clean sweep and custom install!)

I'm so jealous....

The only thing those settings did for me was break the AI in some way every time I added them.
If I were you, I wouldn't be using those settings - It'll likely just end up causing you problems.

I just reinstalled the game to see if that would help, especially as the 4gb patcher has been blamed for poor performance with the newest patch. It's now lagging to the point of being unplayable.

Great job Bethesda :goodjob:

Very, very stable for me now. Can play a couple of hours or more without a CTD. Only downside is the long cell load times. Used to take a few seconds, now may take a few to half a minute. Can't imagine why, though.

No CTDs after 3 hours yesterday.
No new issues either, and by launching from the skyrim.exe, it seems as if my graphics settings in the launcher actually do something.
Either that, or the lates nVidia beta patch is really good.

Was using the LAA Launcher because I'd crash in container inventories or when fast traveling. I stopped using it and am using the latest patched Skyrim executable and have had no crashes yet. Lookin' good so far. Feel bad for folks still having issues.

I did not have any CTD or major bugs before 1.3.10. Was using ENB-antifreeze because fps was low. Since last update i cannot go over 15-25 fps whatever i do. Some accelarators will probably solve this gradually. I reverted back to 1.3.7 and 4GBexe
Now i will make copies of every version so i can revert back in case the next patches create more problems than they solve. Glad it's working for most of you.

I installed the 12.1 preview driver. Skyrim actually appeared to be running smoother with this driver...except when it crashed after two minutes of play. Same issue - AMD Driver failed but now recovered.

gtx 560 ti, i used to have 40-50fps outside, constant 60fps inside caves and dungeons and buildings. now i get 20-30 fps outside, same on the inside. and it totaly fcked my LOD, now i look at waterfalls and i see a frozen picture of a waterfall, and i am like 20 feet from it X_X

i rlly rlly REALLY hate this new patch and i would punch the guy who pressed the final button that made it go live. there was nothing wrong with the 4gb ram mod.

Funny thing. I don't know if this is working as intended but when I run the TESV.exe directly it opens up the launcher, clicking play will then play the game fine but I was using the +fullproc switch and running TESV.exe directly. Is this working as intended? Regardless I had it validate the install through Steam but came up with no changes. Is this how it works now?

Probably the same thing that was happening to me, I think vsync is bieng forced on. Very "laggy" FRAPS shows 30 fps max, seems like there is this problem for just a few of us. 1.3.7 worked fine for me
