How Is The New Official LAA Patch Working Out?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 9:55 am

On behalf of those of us who are still playing the 1.1 patch I was wondering if it would be worth logging back on to Steam yet for this new patch. I know that I prefer not to fix something that already works great (the 1.1 patch with the original LAA exe fix.)

There was not "original" LAA fix. If you're referring to the 4GB mod, that's fine. However, Skyrim never had LAA awareness.

Anyway, keep in mind that a patch is always going to create some problems for at least a few people. However, the benefits of what the patches (always) fix will always always outweigh the cons of what it might (rarely) break.

Works great same as before no problems or crashes, though it has always been that way for me and i haven't avoided any of the patches, done any mods/tweaks etc. ( ya i know you were looking for 1.1 people but meh)

I have been playing on utra settings with shadows turned down to high and sky reflections disabled, yesterday it was choppy in places and it would stutter a bit when loading new areas into view, today it is really smooth and now I can spin around as fast as I want with no slowdown or choppyness at all. I even increased my shadows and turned the sky reflection back on and it's still running just as good. I haven't had a CTD yet either which is a bonus!

The 1.3.10.0 update was released today on Steam for the PC (obviously). The sole component of this update was to add the capability of TESV.exe to see up to 4GB of system memory making the third-party LAA fix unnecessary. As this was the sole component of the update, no release notes were necessary.

I have been using patch 1.3 since it came out and had no problems at all, people still using 1.1 in my view are missing out, I haven't played again since the latest LAA patch but I don't see any problems. Even patch 1.2 wasn't as bad as people made out, don't believe everything you read on here and update and experience yourself is my view. Over 100 hours played now with 1.3 and not a single crash and I don't have a super computer by any means, in fact my Graphics card is actually classed as out of date and still I get no crashes on Ultra or High detail

The 4g FIX (or mod if want want to label it that) IS what most refer to as the original LAA exe fix, as it originally edited the exe, the new one does not, and yes of course this is what he was talking about, EVERYONE knows it didn't have LAA tuning at launch.

So how exactly does this work? Can I delete my 4gb Skyrim and just launch from Steam now? Do I have to mess with something in the options?

With Steam there is no proof needed except what Steam gives you, the first time you open it after an update you will see "1 Item Complete" at the bottom of the screen, so even if you don't notice it actually downloading you will know an update has taken place

The "original" LAA patch was the CNET Explorer Suite that added the LAA flag to TESV.exe. The 4gb mod came later. "Original" and "Official" are not synonyms.

Check the sticky at the top of the forum page for the original announcement, just a one liner.

I don't think it's placebo, but I think I just got a 5-10fps increase in the troubled areas. Also, game runs very smooth and stutters "less" :)

Thank you for saying the exact thing i did, the first fix was the original and it changed the exe, the non exe changing version came later cause steam changed the exe, and no one ever said official.

Missing out on what exactly?

And so far nobody seems to have answered the original question: Is it safe to update?

Ah, yes. Just go to the game's website, get the .exe, then you are done!

So is there anything I need to do to my game settings to let the game access more memory or will it do it automatically after the patch updates the game. (My STEAM is set to update automatically).

Thanks.

Smooth sailing so far (was using the 4GB mod before)...the LAA must be working because my computer would start snorting and laughing if it wasn't. Seems to run even smoother, but no hard proof of that (could be coincidental or placebo).

http://youtu.be/aGTRZ_a4HXQis what happened when the LAA patch was downloaded lol...

oh and yes, I deleted every trace of the unofficial LAA and refreshed ini's and even defragged/verified game cache... still did this lol

repeated process of verifying - evidently the 3rd time was lucky and the game launched

and no CTD since (HQ tex mods inc Skyrim HD, Vurts, Xenius Char enhancement, Clutter and RWT/RSE)
