Its not "House-Carl"...

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 2:52 am

True. It's not very similar, really. It mostly looks like The Rift does in-game - beeches and other foliferous trees. We do not have saber-tooth cats, ice bears or snowtrolls - despite what the americans believe.

Seems plausible. I don't think I've ever seen "ú" in my native tongue.

not true. i saw a documentary about these kids who meet a troll hunter it goes very wrong but it proves the existence of trolls and the government covering it up

In OP's defense, Huscarl sounds and looks better than House-Carl given the setting of the game.

I can't help but think of the Gothic unit from Age of Kings

Well, at least they didn't translate it completely. House-man would sound sort of silly :P

Really? Gee, I guess you really do learn something new everyday.

At least I can take comfort in knowing that you still have Thor, maelstroms that are 90 meters long and lutefisk the size of Saab automobiles.

Ugh, I'm maybe Norwegian (well, 50/50 between that and Sami) but that is just... :yuck:

Ah, Trolljegeren.
Yeah, it's true. The government has to, or else foreign powers will invade just for the scientifical possibility those trolls are.

OT: ú is not still used in any Nordic Language still used as far as I know. Never know if those tricky Danes or Swedes got that one hidden somewhere. It might be Old Norse though, as I've seen that letter there.
Icelandic would be the closest present language to that.
But I don't really care, I know that they mean Húskarls. Simply adjusting words and expressions for another audience is nothing wrong with.

Lol. This game is in English, of course it's housecarl. English doesn't even have this - ú - letter.

My friend dropped some lutefisk on the floor in the kitchen, it took the color out of the tile...

What about women running around in tight armor? Do you have that?

http://www.iltasanomat.fi/miss-suomi/missit-puolialasti-lara-crofteina-pakkasessa/art-1288444482517.html? Well yeah, Finland isn't a part of Scandinavia though. Still a Nordic country...

Sounds like "Dave's Insanity" hot sauce here in the States. That stuff can literally eat concrete in your driveway.

Ehem, you do realize that lutefisk is dried cod prepared in water and lye? (Lut means lye)
A traditional dish in all the Nordic countries, except for Denmark. I hate it though.

Edit: Didn't see that you were Finnish.
But something's wrong with you lye if the fish changes colour...

Besides anything else, would you say Housecarl or Húskarl, if you were in Maryland?

Lye is corrosive, as we hopefully all know, so it doesn't seem that weird that it'd discolor stuff. IF the lye hasn't been soaked off yet, that is. Never made or eaten lutefisk myself, so I wouldn't know about the concentrations of lye you typically use for making it.

Yes, I do realise that; Norweigan descent here! :drag: What I don't understand is how Lye becomes a seasoning... :yuck:

I wish they preserved "huscarl", I think "housecarl" just looks dumb when written. May have to do something with the fact that I'm Russian, "carl" means "dwarf" in Russian so to me "housecarl" always looks like "house-dwarf". Heh.

We have eaten it for generations, it's probably not all that strong. I doubt how highly concentrated lye we could get to waste on food centuires ago.

Jesus!

I didn't mean to derail the thread from a discussion about how "Housecarls" are suppose to be pronounced into a conversation about lutefisk.

I'm a terrible person.

Ok, I'll bring it back inline:

Luetfisk: Is there a cooking recipe in Skyrim for it; or is it considered a poison, and you'd need a specific level of alchemy to craft it?

Alchemy at 100 at least. There is even a specific perk allowing you to make it, as it is OP.
