I served as Húskarl under King Harald Sigurdsson. I was there when he lost at Hastings to William the Usurper. We took to the battlefield, and stood waiting for the Norman king to send his army to meet us. Instead, he ordered his archers to open fire on us. Thanks to his dishonorable tactics, many of us were killed, and many more, myself included, wounded and unable to fight.

Yes, I was a Húskarl once, then I took an arrow in the knee.

True. It's not very similar, really. It mostly looks like The Rift does in-game - beeches and other foliferous trees. We do not have saber-tooth cats, ice bears or snowtrolls - despite what the americans believe.

Darn. I guess I'll cancel my travel plans then. Always wanted to see a Sabercat, though I admit I was planning to give the ice-troll sanctuaries a miss.

Life must have been very hard on you back in 1066 AD.

I also heard a rumor that the only reason why the French was defeated at the Battle of Agrincourt was due to a severe number of patella injuries from the English Longbowmen. Since you've been around for a while, can you verify this claim?

It's funny how foods that people originally ate literally out of desperation, like lobsters, hakarl etc. Are considered "exotic delicacies" nowadays.
I think oysters are another one.

Wait, Harumph is a word?

*mind***k

Yes, more specifically it is an http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/onomatopoeia (a word that expresses a sound like "boing" for a bouncing ball).

Here ends todays vocabulary lesson. ;)

Sigh, why all the hard words? We call those Ordlyder or Wordsounds.
Simpler than Onomatoposomething.

Oh well. At least all those hours watching the History channel here in the States has paid off. I personally don't know anyone who knows what the Battle of Hastings or Agincourt is... let alone battle releated projectile injuries to kneecaps.

But you do have elves and giant spiders right.

But as an American I do understand that Skyrim is not a represenation of real Scandanavia -- there are no gnomes in the game.

Even if it weren't a fictional universe, the word is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Housecarl. The game is in English, dude. If they put out a release in Old Norse, you can make a thread.

Nope. We only got troll, vetter, alver, tusser, jotner and nisser. :)

I can't help but think of the Gothic unit from Age of Kings

Yeah, that's all I can ever think of when anyone makes a reference to Huskarls. Maybe Bethesda should give them a deflect arrows perk.

not true. i saw a documentary about these kids who meet a troll hunter it goes very wrong but it proves the existence of trolls and the government covering it up
Yeah, great movie. :) That's Norway, though, not Sweden. The fact that they have trolls is well known. All right, there might be a few in the mountains to the north...

Really? Gee, I guess you really do learn something new everyday.

At least I can take comfort in knowing that you still have Thor, maelstroms that are 90 meters long and lutefisk the size of Saab automobiles.

Yeah, all right. We do have those. Not too much where I live in the south, however. The elves and frost gnomes are a nuisance when visiting relatives up north, I tell you...
