Its not "House-Carl"...

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 2:23 am

The word is Húskarl. Hoos-carl. The "u" should be "ú". Just..pointing it out.

That's the word in whatever Scandinavian tongue that happens to be. The word in Skyrim is Housecarl.

This. Skyrim is not Scandinavia, no matter how many similarities there are.

True. It's not very similar, really. It mostly looks like The Rift does in-game - beeches and other foliferous trees. We do not have saber-tooth cats, ice bears or snowtrolls - despite what the americans believe. :P

Seems plausible. I don't think I've ever seen "ú" in my native tongue.

Isn't Húskarl old norse? So not used anymore even in a non-fictional universe. That's like saying it's not the legion, its the legio.

Even if it weren't a fictional universe, the word is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Housecarl. The game is in English, dude. If they put out a release in Old Norse, you can make a thread.

Scandinavia doesn't have snow trolls? How about dragons or mages?

What the [censored]? This is like finding out Santa Claus isn't real.

What do we keep you around for? An extra ally in case war breaks out in Europe?

Well we do have the occasional drunken norrl?nning (northerner in Swedish), I think that could count as a ice-bear :)

Yep, haven't seen that letter in Swedish, no matter how old.

Erm, what if a child that still believe in santa was reading this thread? Hmmmm??

Are you going to take responsibility when his mother comes whining at you?

(The above actually happened to me on a Xbox Live game of GTA4, some annoying kid was annoying me, so I asked him if he believed in santa, he said yes, I told him that his parents were lying to him and basically spilled the beans, then he starts whining and off he goes, 2 minutes later his mother is on the mic arguing with me, I just told her I thought she was a bad mother for even letting her child play GTA with people who don't believe in santa, was a good day of trolling that)

Uhm... I believe so, yes. In case of war. 'Cause we're pretty good at that nowadays.
Well, we export wood and iron ore as well.

Until you realised he was trolling you.

Honestly, this thread is terrible, the game is a fictional universe based in English.
