So, it's January. You know what that means.

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 5:01 am

Beth promised a balance patch for January. What do you think they will do to the game?

I'm hoping they start by doing something about the game-breaking crafting professions. The big problem with them is that you have enough perks to not lose anything by taking a crafting profession or two, because skills such as lockpicking, pickpocket and speech do nothing for combat and can be very easily ignored. Also, the synergies between multiple crafting professions are insane, and well known.

Then I hope they fix Stealth, which is insanely overpowered and simplistic, tone down crazy perks such as Impact and Ranger, and do something about all the mediocre perks. Finally, I wish they'd fix the lockpicking, pickpocket and speech trees so they are more enticing.

I'm hoping they won't change things I like a lot...other than that, I just want everyone to be happy with whatever it has in it. That would be nice.

I would rather they fix the more serious bugs first, such as lagging and crashing, then minor bugs, then balancing, then CK.

Oh no. CK should come first so modders can iron out a ton of bugs quickly while Bethesda fixes major lag and crashes. Then all Bethesda really needs to do is look at what the modders did and they can patch all the stuff using those mods as a template.

i think i am the only one who likes the current balance. i play on master and its a great great challenge. yeah, i could abuse smithing but why should i do that? i like beeing badass powerful at level 50+ and most of the content will be experienced before that...
also you have to invest time to train those skills. its a little bit too easy but why can't you guys just do something else?

btw: balance is WAY better than in older tes games, so good work on improvements i would say

OP: If you feel that something is overpowered then you can simply not use that or level it up to something you are comfortable with. This isn't a multiplayer game, so terms like overpowered or exploit don't make any sense here. All that is required is a bit of self discipline.

You're not the only one. I'm not having a problem with balance while building my character so I hope that doesn't change.

I think it would be great if they just gave us some idea of what they were working on.
Let is know what might get fixed and what is not even on the radar.

Same here. I used Smithing and Enchanting on my main (before he got deleted accidentally) and I was never an OP God due to insane gear. But then again, I leveled those skills naturally instead of spamming Iron Daggers all the way to 100 and then crying that the game was broken because I was making fully enchanted Daedric armor at level 15..

That is what I'm doing. However, I can't take sneak, smithing, enchanting, and many spell schools, which drastically cuts the variety of characters I can make. That is not cool. With balanced skills, everybody is happy (those who like being overpowered can play on novice).

yeah you can easily solve the overpowered mechanics (smithing) by not using them but what about the underpowered skill's like destruction the only thing that can fix that is the upcoming patch which i hope it does

EDIT: mod's can fix it but the console players only hope for balance are patches

And you can just play on Master?

If you're naming off a ton and ton of skills that are "overpowered", maybe the skills themselves aren't overpowered, you just need to up the difficulty. That's what I did, and I'm having a great time on Master.

Yeah, I don't think Bethesda should mess with the balancing honestly. They clearly don't have much experience in doing this right the first time.

Just release the CK and there will be enough mods for people to tailor the game to their choosing. I am eagerly awaiting to put real magic back into the game, which will require the game to be much harder, not easier.

Mods can "fix" pretty much anything. Forget any balance patches... what is "balanced" for one person will be "unbalanced" for another. Thus, different mods to cater to different tastes. Mediocre skills, OP stealth... all "fixable" by mods. Not enough spells for ya? Get a mod. Think crafting skills are out of whack? Get a mod.

Bring on the CK!

What about the other people who don't play on PC? I'm all for releasing the CK but console players need love too.
