Jorrvaskr Exit CTD

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 9:35 am

found a way to fix the issue (well its a workaround) that works for me thou

when you are stuck in a certain location, and cant fasttravel becuz your on a quest, use the Console commands "coc riverwood" -without the quotes
and fasttravel back to your location you need to be, 9/10 times it works now, (ps make sure you safe when you are in a safe place :D
You can do coc to pretty much anywhere. This was already covered earlier in this thread.

I've jsut started to have it today on my 175 hour warrior - I wonder what causes it... I hope it can be fixed. I haven't installed the patch, so it's not related to 1.2...

The sad part is , Jorrvaskr is only the beggining of a total meltdown of the game.

I started having this bug at level 62 ,than at level 70 Dawnstar Sanctuary ,the Abandoned Prison and Riverwood went off,now at 78 every door represent a major risk for this game's stability. Not only that it crashes ,but you can't "COC" out of it either. :(
So now Skyrim is nearly entirely unplayable.

I'm gonna BF3 till this gets fixed.Bethesda please see to this.

PS:I'm using that 4gb patch and didn't had one crash untill Jorvaskr , after that everything went to @$G#.

This ^^ Exactly what I was scared of and why I removed the save and didn't play on it any more. Figured it would just get worse and hoped they would/could somehow fix it so I didn't waste 155 hours. This constant worry about ctds and corruption and obsessively saving every 5 minutes is sapping the fun and life out of the game. They really need to fix this.

My Jorvasskr bug hit at level 49, and I'm level 57 now. I haven't noticed any other guaranteed CTD spots. But then, I've also not been to the Dawnstar Sanctuary or the abandoned prison at Riverwood either. I'm hoping my game doesn't get this FUBAR, because even though I may crash every 15 minutes, some dragons fly backwards, resistances are broken, I have Arcana Restored stuck in my inventory, and the only way I can leave Jorrvaskr is a coc command, I am still somehow enjoying this game. Still, I really hope Bethesda fixes this fast. This sounds like a real game-breaker. Not one of those things that people claim are a game-breaker but you can still manage if you really want to. I mean a real "I can't play at all no matter what I do" game-breaker.

1.3 dropped today and I immediately went to Jorrvaskr, hoping the issue had been fixed and was clumped in with the "general stability issues" that they fixed. No such luck. I still CTD every time I exit Jorrvaskr. I also haven't heard anything back from Bethesda since I sent them my DxDiag as they requested on their support e-mail. It's been almost a week. Come on, Bethesda! Fix this!

I got a reply from my e-mail to bethesda support today. After explaining in my ORIGINAL E-MAIL that my problem began once patch 1.2 hit, they alerted me that 1.2 had recently been released and may fix my issue and to please make sure that I had that downloaded and installed. Did they even read my e-mail? Anyway, if I want further assistance I need to send them my DxDiag. So I did. They'll probably make me jump through a hundred other hoops before they give me a solution that probably won't work.

What is your computer spec please?
is your computer/tower/laptop running to warm/or Hot.. Sound like Hardware issue, since new patch.. Can you play other games, or something as demending on your system ok?
When was the last time you computer/tower was blown out for dust? Just wondering.

I started experiencing this issue yesterday but in my case it was not a CTD but an empty grey screen and a freeze.

And I've found a workaround (teleporting to an NPC in a building):
  • May not be required: Disable autosave feature from the in-game options (all 4 options).
  • Memorize/Write down an ID of an NPC which always stays inside a building in Whiterun: stand in frond of them, press the console hotkey (default is ~) and left click on an NPC (be sure to click precisely on them and not on an object behind them). An ID will be displayed in the center of the screen. Close the console once You're done.
  • Enter Jorrvaskr, do whatever You must and once You have to leave - open the console and type this:
    player.moveto ID
where ID is the NPC's ID. For example - if You want to teleport to Lydia type this: player.moveto a2c94
  • After being teleported to an NPC You can exit the building You are at to Whiterun.
Should also work with any NPC, which is not on the streets of Whiterun. I've personally tested it with IDs of Lydia (while she was is Breezehose), the mage inside Dragonsreach and Elrindir (inside Drunken Huntsman).

Also note that the cause of the CTD/freeze remains and You'll experience it again if You'll try to exit Jorrvaskr the normal way again. And it is also quite possible that it's not the only place where this bug manifests itself.

I just tried that 4GB launcher thing that everyone keeps talking about out of desperation. No go. Jorrvaskr is still broken. Help us, Bethesda!

This is probably unrelated, but I get occasional CTDs when I leave any building in Whiterun. Seems to happen most when I leave Breezehome or the alchemy shop. And it happens on both PC and PS3.

I was getting those too. I just figured they were occasional CTDs. But now this happens every single time I try to exit Jorrvaskr without fail.

I finally got a reply from Bethesda support today on this issue. They basically told me to turn my graphics options down to the point where my game looked like a piece of crap, which is a [censored] solution. Why should I have to dumb down my graphics to fix a problem with your game, Bethesda? Anyway, it doesn't matter. All their solutions that they told me to try did not work. They told me to let them know if my problem persists, so I let them know. I give them a month to get back to me with another useless solution.

I started having the same problem yesterday and it's pretty much game over for me until Bethesda does something. I've had a relatively bug-free game up until now, with over 200 hours played. Sure, some of the quests have been buggy, there's been a few random CTDs, but nothing as consistent as this.

It started with the Dawnstar Sanctuary. Every time I try to enter, either via the door by the water or the secret entrance, instant CTD. Jorrvaskr I can enter, but when I try to exit, I get a brief loading screen then CTD. I tried to enter The Ratway a few times just now, CTD. God knows how many other areas are affected.

I've uninstalled it and waiting for reinstall now, but from what I've read here, it won't do any good.

If you're listening, Bethesda, there's no way that this is driver related - not after over 200 hours of gaming without a hint of this problem, running the same drivers throughout (AMD 11.11).

Edit: I'm running no mods and I never have. I've never used LAA and Steam is set for automatic updates. I've done nothing to the INI files apart from changing FOV.

We may be wasting our breath here, but I plan on keeping this thread up until Bethesda does something about this. This is a real game-breaker. Even worse than the backward flying dragons and broken magic resistances of patch 1.2. They need to fix this. They need to fix it now.

Just chiming in to say I have the same problem too. However, for me it is the Swindler's Den.

I entered the Swindler's Den previously fine to complete the Redguard quest (forgot what it is called). Then I didn't enter it at all. After some time, I have two quests needing me to go inside the den. One, is from the Companions and another is about retrieving a book. Whenever I try to enter the den, the loading screen comes out and then it CTDs. Every time.

So yeah, same boat.

I can confirm this, same problem here, entering Jorrvaskr is fine but when I want to exit I get a CTD everytime. Now I have to avoid that place.
I also want to note that I'm one of the few lucky ones who didn't had a single crash in this game.So it's definitley something wrong with this building.
I'm lvl 46 btw.

So I just got another reply from Bethesda support where they basically told me that there was nothing they can do and will never do anything about this problem.

"Again, we deeply apologize that you are having this problem. Your save might be corrupted from completing quests out of order. Try reverting to a previous saved game and continue from there. If the problem still occurs you will have to start a new game. Any patches that we release are intended to fix the games issues and not the saved game itself. If we have any info on upcoming updates/patches, we’ll release that info on the official web site and forums, so please check back there. Thanks again for your feedback, and thanks for playing our game."

So basically, what I was afraid of from the beginning. They are not going to fix this issue and they are going to have the 'nads to tell us "Too bad so sad. Start a new game a wish upon a star that it doesn't happen to that save game as well". What a ripoff. I think I want my money back after this kind of reply.

What a load of B.S. Completing quests out of order?? And just what is this "order" may I ask?? How is that even possible? What a bunch of complete nonsense. If that is the case, then why o' why don't they release a statement telling us all exactly what order to do what quests in??I know on my game, I did nothing of the sort. No mods, no console commands, no messing with ini files, etc. My game was FINE for 155 hours!! lol Then all of the sudden repeatable ctd?? I DID load an old save and played on it and it eventually did the same thing also. If it is a corrupt save game file, then something in the game is corrupting it and they need to FIX it. I saved a save file of this character a few hours before the Jorrvaskr ctd started happening. I can enter and exit on this save, no problem. But if I just leave the game sit with me standing still, not doing anything, after a few hours if I try to enter and leave again, it ctds. They expect people to invest another 155 hours and just hope it doesn't happen again? It's enough that they even have the nerve to ask such a thing, but then to not even be able to tell us what to NOT do to ensure all our time and effort doesn't go to waste, AGAIN, is just pathetic.

When all of us here are having the same problem at the same location it means there is something wrong with the game, not with the savegames.I suggest everyone to mail Beth support because I doubt they even look in their own forums.

Almost at 200 hours now, haven't noticed any other place messing up, but then haven't been back to many of them. Haven't been to Dawnstar Sanctuary as I'm not joining the Brotherhood, but Abandoned prison and Riverwood buildings seem fine (touch wood) - hopefully this problem conatins itself to just Jorrvaskar.

SPOILER: Do you think it might have something to do with Skjor coming back to life and walking around the place that confuses the game - he's meant to have been killed by the Silver Hand, but at around 150+ hours, I noticed he was among the living, talking to me like I had just joined the companions... and offering quests...

I agree wholeheartedly. That reply I got made me completely lose any shred of faith I had left in this company. I had great respect for Bethesda before the release of Skyrim. Now, their reputation will forever be in the toilet with me. And what's up with the "completing quests out of order" nonsense? I thought one of the ideas behind Elder Scrolls game was that they were for the most part NON-LINEAR. If I can corrupt my save game by completing quests in some sort of magical incorrect order, then there should be a game mechanic in place to PREVENT me from completing quests out of order. What you've done here, Bethesda, is taken a bug you've programmed and blamed it on me for playing a game that's not supposed to have a right or wrong way to play, the wrong way. Do you understand how ludicrous that sounds? Do you? I didn't drop $60 on this game so you could insult my intelligence, Bethesda.

I would like to confirm this issue as well. What tends to work for me is using the console command "coc WhiterunBreezehome" (if you own a house in Whiterun). Shame that to leave a relatively important location we have to resort to console commands. The suggestion that we start a new game and hope for the best is as ridiculous as it is circular. I would like to remind Bethesda that a lack of organization/testing on their part does not constitute a loss of 140+ hours of gameplay on mine.
