At level 36, I have some complaints.

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 9:34 pm

I love Skyrim, but so far I'm agreeing wholly with these complaints as they are very real.

The one where NPC's bombard you with inconsequential information has to be the one I hate most.

When a scripted conversation happens between two or more NPC's in a populated area, I scan my entire surroundings to make sure I keep ample distance from Grendolagtoff the sawmill foreman telling me how chopping trees makes him a decent living.

About the dual-wielding executions, they're definitely there, but you have to use the weapon in your right hand.

NPC greeting issue resolved here, I use it. Works great.

Seems like a useful mod.

A complaint shouldn't be disregarded simply because it can be "modded in", or out, as the case may be. (Not saying that you did, just wanted to put it out there)

Huh. I'll try that then. Thanks.

Sweet! Thanks for the heads up on that mod. I agree with Typhoonxz's comment that it really should be fixed officially though.

1: Biggest complaint: The sheer number of things that randomly attack you on the way to anywhere at all. On the road (the ROAD, not the middle of the woods, the ROAD that everyone travels on) between the Valtheim Towers and Riften I counted no less than 3 attacks from bears who were sitting in the middle of the road and two simultaneous Troll attacks. That's idiotic. The forest should be dangerous but you should at LEAST be able to stay on the apparently well-travelled road for more than a minute without 3 wolves, a bear, giant spider, troll and 2 more trolls barreling at you cause you killed their cousins one minute ago during the last attack. Especially annoying considering the awesomely ultra-realistic way that my character is utterly helpess and vulnerable while riding a 700-pound war horse. That's okay cause if I get attacked I can just hit E and, within the hour, he'll be off the horse and ready to ragdoll into a tree while pulling out his weapons. Then the horse will run 10 miles up the road to fight 2 more bears.

2: Stop telling me I'm detected when it's my own horse that detects me.

3: Are there no execution animations for dual wield either? I've only ever seen them when I accidentally kill someone with just one weapon. If true, very disappointing for dual-wield assassin.

4: Frequency of dragon attacks. At around the 40th time one showed up I was just rolling my eyes and saying ugh, I'm in the middle of something, go away.

5: NPCs are way too talkative. I did not ask if you work the mill, or if it is fulfilling or if it pays well. I didn't ask because this is the 100,000th time you've volunteered the information while I sprinted past you.

6: The horse can run off on its own but no one thought to give it a map marker or something? After every battle I have to climb a rock and try to spot my horse among the trees. Surely that will never get old. Let me guess: 'eh, the modders will do something about it'.
1. The world is so much better designed and not everything you see is hostile in Oblivion. Are we playing the same game, I've not had this problem in the wilderness at all, I see more passive creatures than hostile and aggressive creatures. I have travel from one end to the map all the way to the the other just exploring and for huge amounts of the land and nothing happens for bug gaps in time. I end up enjoying watching the animals, the non-hostile ones.

2. That is irritating indeed.

3. I hope so, I have not duel wielded weapons yet,

4. I like the frequency of dragon attacks, its not to much or to little, I encounter them every once in a while and it should be that way.

5. I like how if I want to I can listen to NPCs again if I wish instead of just something like yes. Listening to yes for thousands of hours is irritating believe me.

6. I hate suicidal followers in any game that is why I always travel alone. I also do not like to rely on something else but that is just me.

At level 50 when I see a saber tooth or a bear I just think leather! They are also starting to run from me which is a little odd as I have to jiggle after them, but satisfying. Run about in the dark, those attacks will make you leap out of your skin!

I am dual weild and am getting tons of bullet time animations. Specially with backstabs.

When a dragon breaths on me I expect to be disoriented. In fact the whole combat thing bothers me the most when I loose. This is because I am a hypocrite. When I am winning I love it.

I am finding dragon attacks well balanced. It is a dragon slayer game after all.

I like the npc dialogue.

What are horses? Once my Shadowmere died I was so heart broken it has been the foot taxi ever since :)

Fire the Ungabunga babe and hire Lydia, she is kind, thoughtful, good in a fight and will eat all your bread.

This. Also, I hate Ash Piles. I thought they could remove them finally with the new engine, so why haven't they? Ash Piles everywhere thanks to random Necromancers is really starting to grate with me.

I have to keep practicing if I ever want to be as good as EOrLAnd GRay-mANE.

Seriously, does anyone else hear an odd fluctuation when she mentions his name? I think they went and changed his name after recording the initial lines, and then had her just say his name to record over the old name.

I'm on the 360 btw. New Vegas died repeatedly because of these damn Ash Piles, and Fallout 3 was nearly as bad as that. Why on earth did they include them again?! It's like we're being trolled by these things. And why do raised dead dissolve into Ash Piles in the first place? Seriously, there are dozens of these piles between Whiterun and Markarth for me as I had to move a lot of stuff between Breezehome and Vlindrel Hall, and the framerate just plummets around there. Worse still, I'm only on these forums now because Skyrim has totally crashed on me 5 times in the last 24 hours. If I find out those Ash Piles have caused this, I'm gonna rage. :swear:

Certain things I hate about all Bethesda games that they have continued in skyrim.

Cloning: Everybody is the same height and uses one of the maybe five voice actors that cover the entire game. EVERY TOUGH GUY SOUNDS LIKE FARKAS. When every man is Farkas, Farkas is no longer special.

Copying: It's hard to care what the npcs want me to do when it merely winds up sending me to YET ANOTHER bandit/hostile mage/undead cave.

Interface: A given. It's horrible. Not letting me remove the daedric quests that have no "Good" way out gets under my skin in particular, as if not being able to tell Boethiah where he can stick it wasn't enough.

Henchmen have no personality at all once hired. Not much intelligence either.

I totally agree with everything you say. However I can live with all of these faults, as they are really minor issues, except for the generic copy paste questing. It seems rather strange that in this day and age, where games get to have more and more complex and involving storylines (Alan Wake, Mass Effect, Read dead redemption), Skyrim goes in the other direction, even comparing to Oblivion, giving us more simplistic stories. I do not want to make wild guesses as what the devs were thinking of when they started to create Skyrim. But it does seem rather strange that making interesting and compelling storylines (that do not only last for a couple of quests) has not been a priority in making this game (I'm not talking about the main quest here, only the guildquests).

Could it be so that there is a hidden agenda here, which is to make the gamers purchase expanded questlines for the guilds through DLC later on? I do not know, I truly hope this is not so, but the thought have crossed my mind.

Those are some good points. I agree - it's always annoying when my horse starts deciding it's Hercules and starts trying to kill a dragon on it's own - rescuing damsels in distress is one thing. Having to rescue my horse again and again is just tiresome, especially since it's Shadowmere, and he can die in Skyrim. How about a kriffing option to change the horses reaction to a 2-ton carnivore 'run the **** out of here' instead of 'I AM SUPER-HORSE! FEAR MY MIGHTY HOO-*dies*. Okay, he doesn't die THAT easily... but it's still annoying when I constantly have to adjust how I play to ensure that Shadowmere will be around later on.

Shadowmere can die!!?? I really need him to stop fooling around with those frikkin dragons :meh:

the ash piles are just a nuisance. There is no point for them, I have an ash pile that refuses to leave the ritual stone> I do not understand it, I am on XBOX 360 for now too and I have to say I hate it, there is no reason to have them. Since 08 I have suffered with the lag they cause in Fallout 3 if an enemy was reduced to ash enemies would not respawn. I hope this is not the case in Skyrim!

I'm fairly sure they respawn, but the Ash Piles remain. It looks like hell when they cover so much of the ground.

Yes it shames Bethesda that in Oblivion there was a never a problem with the ectoplasm from ghost went on the floor. Then two years later in Fallout 3 this ashpile trend begins. There is no reason and they should just remove the feature.

Yea. I agree with all of those things, except the dragon attacks. Yea, you can complain when an ANCIENT or ELDER dragon attacks, as they are impossible to kill, but not a normal one.

Other than that, yes. I hate the darkness/lighting problems in this game, it makes some dungeons impossible to navigate without a torch.

I don't know about you but I have no problem killing an Acient Dragon. A bit more of a challenge but not impossible. However I must admit I'm getting pretty pissed that they keep attacking Winterhold every ten minutes.

They had about 70 voice actors this time. It's something they're doing RIGHT. Do you expect every single NPC to have a different voice actor?

I really don't understand the complaint about random encounters along the road. Pretty much everything give a warning telling you not to get close. A bear will stand up showing its presence. Wolves will howl. Bandits will outright tell you to keep your distance.

Obey that and you won't get in trouble with them. With enough stamina and/or high enough level you can just ignore them and run past them, and unlike Oblivion where they would follow you forever, here they will give up. 100 times better than Oblivion. And I love it. Roleplay - use your senses and look out for danger and you usually can stay clear. Sometimes you'll just get surprised and get a whopping - that kind of stuff tends to happen a lot in role playing games...

This. You don't want to fight? Then don't. Just ride on...its not that difficult isn't it? (And yes you can ride away from every enemy in this game).
