Lost Season 6 Discussion

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:03 am

Agreed. I think if they leave some stuff unexplained, that adds to the mystery. And nothing says a good show than viewers STILL thinking about the show..after the series finale. That means you did your job as a writer.

On the topic of Christian appearing to Jack off the island, I really don't think it was just because he was boozed up. I mean, yeah he was, but I think it was actually something more devious. Especially in Lost, you can't just look at things black and white.

I would be rather angry to see stuff left unexplained.

A good story, in my humble opinion, shouldn't leave gaping holes where people are left going, "so what the heck was that about?"

Granted, real life doesn't have all the answers.... but if I wanted real life, I wouldn't be watching tv, now would I? :P

For lost, the best ending should be one in which everything is explained, then as you go through the series again, on subsequent viewings you should (hopefully) be able to trace everything from first to last, to be able to point out details in earlier seasons and say, "this comes into play in a later season, this was done for a reason and was referenced in a later point in the story."

Given the tremendous amounts of re-writes and last minute edits and character write-offs that have happened in the show, I wonder how well they can tie everything together but.... here's hoping for the best.

So you mean he appeared to Jack, off the island?

There's quite a difference :P

:slap:
You know that's not what I meant. -_-

Wow, great new episode!

Spoiler
Now I am really wondering about Charles Widmore and his character. On the one hand, he seems to be going against the man in black/smoke monster, but on the other hand, he seems to be pretty bad in the way he does things. Maybe he believes a good end justifies bad means. We've seen him in the past, when Locke was traveling through time, he was with the others following Richard, so he was on the island in the past. But when he's off the island he seems to be obsessed with finding the island, purchasing the log book from the Black Rock (I think trying to find out their bearings to figure out where the island was), so you would think someone working FOR the island would at least know where it is.

Speaking of that, Richard has appeared off the island (he shows up to test Locke when he was a kid, right?) So Richard seems to have a way of going to/from. Was that via a submarine stolen from the Dharma initiative? They seem to have had good means of going to/from the island, why is it they could when it took Widmore, who has 1) been to the island and 2) been so immensely wealthy so long to find his way back?

Then again, maybe he got kicked off the island, but had a change of heart. Or, maybe he's a character like Ben was- he was a bad guy, but Jacob is hoping he'll pull through. I'm starting to hope that Widmore wins, even though I really don't like what he's done to Desmond

Getting to and from the island is relatively easy if you know how to find it. But it's almost impossible to find by conventional means. The first time, when Widmore sent the freighter, it was tracking the EM burst from the Swan Station implosion. This time round he's found some other means- possibly he used the Lamp Post Station in LA, which is what Ben did.

I must have missed something, because the last thing I saw from the flash sideways was
Spoiler
Sun getting shot.
Did they show anything after that?

Nope, they left it at that.

Also, the family member that is the candidate: could it possibly be the baby? I was pondering it afterwards.

That would be interesting if it were the daughter. I'm not sure, though. I'm guessing it's not.

Hmm, that would be pretty crazy. Also, it would totally break everyone's plan :P

Spoiler
Jacob would be like, "wait, the last candidate isn't here.... we can't end the season!"

The Man in Black would be like, "The right Kwon isn't here, I can't leave the island, NOOOO! We can't end the season!"

And ABC would be like, "starting next fall: the final final season of Lost: This time, it really is the last one... maybe."

But on second thought, Jacob never appeared anywhere in her life, so she couldn't be it. Jacob appeared to both Jin AND Sun at their wedding. From what we have heard so far (from what "Locke" told Sawyer when he showed Sawyer the cave with the names) that appears to be a requirement for candidacy. So technically, both Jin and Sun qualify.

But that makes me think of something else: Didn't Jacob appear in Kate's life? She was trying to steal a lunch box or something but got caught, then Jacob paid for it. And in the most recent episode, Locke said something that Kate wasn't a candidate anymore, right? So what did she do to get rid of her status?

I thought about that considering there was never a first name and they hadn't decided on a name upon arriving at the island (given they didn't even know about the baby yet) so it would totally make sense... as well as screw up Non Locke.

Jacob never showed up in her life.

Smoke monster as Locke told Sawyer that at some point in their lives Jacob had appeared to all of them- Jacob appeared to both Jin and Sun at their wedding. Was Sun pregnant at the time of their wedding? If so, that might count. If not, I don't think the baby counts as a candidate, but I think both Jin and Sun qualify.

If I remember correctly, Juliet told Sun that she got pregnant on the island.

How's that possible when in the alternate universe she's still pregnant?

 Why not? In the other one Jack has a son.

EDIT: Maybe Jacob made Jin sterile when he touched them. Then in the universe where they never go to the island maybe Jacob never appears, and he can have babies just fine.

I think it was understood that they have been together off the island in the alternate universe, so she'd still be pregnant.

WAIT.

Spoiler
Maybe Jin was sterile not because Jacob touched him, but because of something related to exposure from working with the Dharma initiative? Because, when he first got to the island, he was just being him, but then all the time stuff happened, and he went back in time to BEFORE they landed on the island, then maybe that somehow screwed up his body in the future before he had gone in time (or something to that effect).

Since they blew up the island before Jin would have been around in the alternate universe, there was no exposure and Jin never went sterile.

Still not quite sure how the sterile thing works out :P I don't know if Jacob would make someone sterile. The island seems to have a healing effect (Locke, lady with cancer), I don't think Jacob would have had to even do that beforehand.

That would be awesome. I'm still coming to terms with the fact that this is the last ever season :'(

If I remember correctly, Juliet told Sun that she got pregnant on the island.

But sun is also pregnant off the Island... What if the baby off the island was the dudes she was sleeping with, but because of the crash she miscarried then because the island healed Jin's ball's she got pregnant by him? Or maybe julliet was just telling Sun what she needed to hear.

Right, but the flash sideways don't really have anything to do with the original timeline. In the flash sideways Jin might never have been sterile.

Did the episodes not already tell us that the island is on top of hell, and the smoke monster is a little piece of hell that wants to leave the island and infect the world? The protector preventing that from happening.

Yes, that was what we were told by Jacob. The question is whether or not it is the truth.
