Low-Res Textures if you install to hardrive? (Xbox360)

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 5:58 pm

I'm going to uninstall the game right now on my 360, the textures were ugly and looked like it didn't load. Why couldn't I wait a few days

Do you read? If you play off the disc, then the entire game world has lower quality textures, where as your character looks fine. Itt has the opposite problem of the HDD method.

? All the comparisons i've seen the world textures look identical.

I also just realized I didn't even notice the hand textures until I looked for a 4th time. That's how little this effects things.

Or you have an obscenely low perception skill. I honestly don;t see how you can not notice SOMETHING off when you compare the two photos....especially when some of them have MASSIVE GREEN WORDS AND CIRCLES showing the blatantly obvious issues.

You MUST be in denial, I'm sorry.

It's like Valley of Gwangi vs. Jurassic Park.

Really? strange then, that the leaked videos that are actually captured with good quality look stunning when running of the disk. Couldn't see any difference from the e3 demo. I do believe the problem with the character textures is there as so many have said so. Just a bug and will be fixed soon. The game world textures being lower when running the disk I don't believe as I have read countless comments, previews and even the first review and they all say it looks great when running of the disk. One problem gets hyped into several problems.

And why worry? IF this had been an issue bethesda would patch it day 1. And if the disk quality textures is lower then i would think the guys at bethesda would notice. after all they have played it for a long time now and know how it should look on each platform..

If I could post the evidence, I would.

I tried to get an official answer out of somebody today.

Here's how it went:

Tried to submit a message on Bethesda's webpage citing concerns over texture issue - the post would not submit, despite trying about 12 times.

Twittered Pete Hines TWICE - ignored me both times and replied to other tweets that were completely unrelated

Posted on Bethesda's Facebook page asking for some clarification on the matter - post deleted after about 10 minutes, no reply.

Seems like they aren't ready to put our fears at ease just yet, but believe me, they know alright! I think it's despicable that they could let this go on without some official announcement - either tell us all not to worry (which would ease our minds considerably) or acknowledge that there may be an issue and they are looking into it.

We have been regaled with great screenshots, videos and trailers. If the final product does not deliver what has been promised, isn't that akin to false advertising?

At least if we knew either way we could deal with it. Imagine the people that aren't aware of this issue (if it exists) that come home all excited, install the game to their HDD as normal, then get texture-less graphics. Way to kill the first impression of the game, Bethesda.

Even some forewarning would be good - at least then we would all know for a fact that installing Skyrim is a bad idea for now.

But burying your head in the sand will not make the problem go away, and if there is a fault that won't be patched immediately HAVE THE COMMON DECENCY TO TELL US.

It is a lot of money to fork out for something that does not do what it promises to do. Sure, gameplay will be good, and all the other additions to the Elder Scrolls universe will be cool, but it should look how it does on all the ads! Anything less is a farce, and quite frankly, insulting.

I have not played the game, have not got a pirated copy, I am just concerned at the level silence surrounding this on Bethesda's part.

All it would take is one official announcement.

Whoa... the PS3 is currently getting better treatment from Bethesda? I'm confused...
No, that's sony's doing.
When a dev releases a patch it must be sent to sony and micro for approval. Then they get released for the public.
In most cases sony is faster in this process.

What about the theory of installing to a USB/flash drive? Some people are saying that it's working to correct the issue...?

That is an option, but not all of us have 8 gig flash drives, and we shouldn't(and some cases can't) be expected to buy them just to play Skyrim the way it was supposed to be played on 360.

4 gig will not work because the Xbox software received post formatting will reduce its storage to 3.6 gigs.

Are there any "code monkeys" around that can even confirm whether or not it's even technically possible that Bethesda could fix the XB360 texture issue via a patch?

Well logically they should be able to, given the gameplay footage they've given us. Everyone is claiming its a bug. Beyond that I don't think the textures are anything more than what we've seen in the Fallout games, so it should be an easy patch. It's all a matter of "if" and "when".

Is this going to get fixed anytime soon and is Bethesda aware of the problem?
Probably and maybe.

Let's wait for the release first and the days thereafter to see what happens. Currently this is a moot point because the game isn't supposed to be played yet. For all we know this is fixed at release.
