Any way I can boost my paragon/renegade ratings, other than having to do loyalty quests? So far I've done Garrus, Grunt, Miranda, Mordin, and Jacob, but the others I avoid like the plague because I can't seem to find more opportunities to boost it, other than doing them. Any suggestions?

Also, where are the books I buy?

Books are cheap advertisemant for their real books. It gives you a short codex entry for them.

The alien pron one isn't a real book. Just in case you had that weird thought in advance. Although it's codex entry is... informative. :P

Anyone know how to raise paragon and renegade points, or know how much paragon/renegade is needed to successfully do the choices in Samara, Tali, and Thane's loyalty quests?

Well first off, this game hates people who are morally in between Paragon and Renegade. So you're going to have to switch to one side in order to get the most dialog out of it. It doesn't matter if you choose Paragon or Renegade, they both will get you to the same place in those quests, just at a different method.

I fed them just before going to a (single!) mission, and when i returned they were dead. I haven't bought more fish since then. One would think keeping them fed would a trivial task for EDI, or just have a simple timer in the fish tank. The future seems pretty stupid occasionally.

BTW, what happened to omni-gel?

It's in the med stations and is now used in the unity power to heal everyone.

Just like ME1, you pick paragon or renegade options in choices and dialogue. If it's on the top side of the wheel, it's toward Paragon. Bottom of wheel is Renegade. Problem is that if you want to explore all options in dialog and choosing one doesn't eliminate the other, you get both Paragon and Renegade points...staying near neutrality (equal levels of both). It's not always a red or blue dialog option or a "quick choice" of paragon or renegade.

If you have no import saves (with the paragon ending) then you'll be a lil' disappointed. The default choices for what happened in the first are all renegade (or so it seems). The council die, you elect the human as blah, and blah.... Other than that, you're good to go. (easy peasy)

Actually, you'll miss a lot more than that. I played my first game as a non-imported renegade. And now I'm playing as an imported renegade, the difference is huge. So many tiny details that make such a difference, to me anyway, I'll list some in spoiler tags.

Spoiler
Helena Blake makes a return if you let her live in ME1

Spoiler
Fist will be hanging out Omega if you let him live.

Spoiler
Wrex will be present (haven't met him myself, but I read it on wiki) if you let him live

Spoiler
If you had a romance in the first game a picture of him/her will be on your desk.

Spoiler
The asari politician Thane kills will recognise you, if you helped her kill her sister in the first game.

those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head, I'm sure there's more.

Spoiler
Kelly will offer to feed them if you pick the right dialogue choices with her.

No you don't. I think it is more important that you pick the right people for the right jobs.

Tell me if anyone did anything different and their results.

I picked Garrus to lead the other team both times. Picked Samara to create my biotic field. Picked Legion to crawl through ducts. Picked Zaeed to take survivors back to ship. Also had loyalty of everyone. I didn't fully upgrade anything. I had a few of the characters upgraded, but not all. Only upgrades to ship were fuel capacity, improved scanning, the cannon, the shield, and the armor. I didn't increase probes, upgrade clinic, or anything else.

Maybe it is a matter of luck though.

I followed what others did to get everyone out alive.

Used Legion for the tech role. Used Jacob as Team 2 Lead both times. Used Samara for the biotic shield. Had most of the upgrades, but not all for weapons/armor/tech. Ship fully upgraded. If I used Tali for the escort, she made it back alive but Mordin died. If I used Modin for the escort, Tali died. All team members were loyal. Can't see why I kept losing one. I even set the difficulty to Casual to shorten how long the fights lasted.

There should flat out be a basis for why a teammate makes it or not. If it's luck, getting them all out alive will be very frustrating.

Have Mordin escort and keep Tali in your team, or vice versa. They won't die if they are with you for the final battle.

I'm pretty sure it's not just luck. I'm trying another game as Paragon where I'll be upgrading everything. I've got lots of extra resources as I imported after having completed the game once already. Then I'll look at what other people have done and see how it turns out.

Spoiler
Does Samara get tired at the end of the Bio shield part if you use her? I used Jacob and he almost fell to the ground at the end. I'm thinking Samara is a stronger biotic and should be able to hold it for longer without getting too tired.

Also, who is a good team member to hold them off? (Don't know the details, but somewhere you order someone to stay back and hold some collectors off your back.

Samara and Jack both got tired for me, those are the only two I tried.

Everyone gets tired, but using Jack and Samara (and someone else IRRC) stops someone from dying.

All my achievements seem to have disappeared after a crash. Does anyone know if they have any effect on the game or continuity with the next game?
I hope not. Don't really care for achievements in general but I do want to continue from where I left off when ME3 comes out <_<

It appears to be an assault rifle, and no gun with the inferno armour, sorry.

It's a heavy weapon. A kind of gravity gun. Pretty cool.

Why do you pick up a Grenade Launcher at the beggining of the game even if you aren't a soldier? Do I keep it forever? Someone answer quickly.

Yes, you keep it. The main character can use a heavy weapon regardless of class.
