a question i got in before leydenne closed the thread was something my friends asked me a lot:
Do You Consider Video Games an Art?
I guess that would depend on you and your friends definition of art. I have a fine arts background and visit museums frequently so I'll start with that disclaimer.
I know when I play certain games, I get the same emotional response as I do, when I view a painting or sculpture in person. But I've also been reminded by my peers in the past that these are games or toys (fancy and expensive). So I try to keep humble and not think of this as an opus or a Mona Lisa, life is easier that way.
For anyone, if you please:
What is the best part of your job, and the worst?
The best part is when I'm sitting in my office and sketching some idea. Or given someone some feedback on something they have struggling with and its a small comment that jumps starts their momentum. Even better when its the other way around.
The worst is when someone is really attached to an idea but for what ever reason its not working and I end up being the bad dude who shot down their idea.
How ecstatic were you guys when you first found out that you guys were going to develop the next fallout game?
Pretty excited but when I found out is was Vegas it was elated.
Did you guys get a free trip here to Vegas when working on the game?
Nope no trips:( In our case it wasn't a big deal which overtime you'll see why and besides I've been on so many photo shoots; Cairo, Arches National Park, Yosemite, Hawaii on previous projects that Ive worked on that it was not really a big deal.
Hi, nice thread, i have question:
Which movies with post-apocalyptic genre you like the most, and did they played a significant role in making of Fallout 3?
Ahh, this gets ask a bit, so I can't comment on F3 but for F:NV, here's my list in ranking order;
Delicatessen
City of Lost Children
Mad Max Series
Dark City
Children of Men
In particular I'm a huge fan of Delicatessen, the work of Director of Photography Darius Khondji and Art Director Marc Caro. I loved their interpretation of a post-apocalyptic world. IMHO, one of the most beautiful films!
I have a a few simple questions for the DEVS
I'm currently a Resident of Las Vegas, well this game make me feel like I'm at home? I know its a 50's version of Vegas but the layout of the town has not changed over the years the street names have not changed! Also I was wondering if it was possible to add my a post apocalyptic version of my house in the game

My hope when designing the metropolitan area of New Vegas was:
1 -make it feel like a true city, unique neighborhoods, a infrastructure that was believable (power lines, road networks etc.
2 -Capture the vibe character of Las Vegas from a previous era
We took satellite data to capture the details of the land and shoe horned it into the level editor. As well as scoured the net for reference to make sure the team had a good idea of what we where shooting for. So yes I believe you'll feel at home.
