Their original name was Suppurated Fetus...which isn't any better than Goatpencs really. Plus they rule, so I can overlook some stupidity...

Bands can be called whatever they want, I'll still listen to them if they make good music. Band whith crap neams tend to be ridiculed. Me and friend from school usually include a picture of Goatpencs' band logo in our codes we share with eachother. It gets drawn on the screen right before the program quits :P

Anyone heard of http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=129? Metal Archives classifies them as a Black/Power Metal band, which should turn a few heads, although the band uses "Extreme Epic Metal". My Pandora station threw a couple of their songs at me, and I've been really liking it, so I just picked up their Mare Nostrum album.

Give it a listen if you're into bands like Moonsorrow, or Ensiferum.

Hmm, while they do have that epic quality in their music, I wouldn't compare them to Moonsorrow or even Ensiferum, but on the other hand they are an awesome band. I just dont think they come anywhere close to the epicness that Moonsorrow or Ensiferum exudes. Just my opinion of course.

I'm a 3/4 of the time stay at home dad. I have some college courses, 2 - 3 hours a day 4 times a week, but other than that, all I do is hang out at home and listen to music and play with/watch my son. I'd love to go back to work...but my back injury isn't permitting that...

It's pretty easy to rip through at least 10 albums a day when you just put 'em in the CD changer 5 at a time...or if it's a vinyl day, you're on top of flipping and changing.

Single mum, and I did my masters from home too, empathy and sympathy for you. Some good stuff in that list, thx!

I looked through my music library, and those are the two bands that jumped out at me.

Ensiferum isn't a band I'd consider on the same level as Moonsorrow when it comes to being epic though. Maybe a few songs (LAI LAI HEI, and Victory Songs), but as a whole, I'd have to disagree.

Dismember's Dismembered demo: Has awesome alliteration and awesome vocals. Not as good as 'Reborn in Blasphemy' or 'Like an Ever Flowing Stream' though.

Does Iron Maiden give a good show? I was thinking about buying some tickets for when they swing by in July.

They're totally worth seeing if you haven't already.

Yup. Can't really recommend seeing them more than once though, let alone 4 times. :P

Think I might see them a third time this summer, depending on what festivals I settle on...

Hey, can anyone hook me up with some new music?

I've been slowly getting into death metal, really the only genre I haven't been able to get into yet - aside from thrash and power, but I hate them. I've been listening to some stuff that could be considered deathcore I suppose, ie. The Faceless, but I've been looking for something more crushing with a really thick production and just overall a bit more brutallity (as cliche as that is... br000tt4ll). So, where do I start basically? I'm already into Death but that isn't exactly what I'm looking for. Just some solid modern death metal that's really thick and crushing is all I'm looking for.

Thanks!

Toxik is ok...the only prog. thrash style band I enjoy is Mekong Delta, so I guess it's not surprising that they didn't blow me away or anything.

Got a HUGE list of new stuff again. Once again I will attempt to go through them.

Goatpencs - Inhumanization - Melodic war metal from Brazil. Yep, you heard me, melodic war metal.

Black Witchery - Upheaval of Satanic Might - Second Black Witchery release. Kept eyeballing it, but never bought it. Finally committed. Great stuff.

Goatpencs - Biochemterrorism - Latest release from this melodic war metal band. Amazing stuff.

I just found Goatpencs and Black Witchery the other day... [censored] filthy amazing black metal I'm planning on ordering Biochemterrorism in the next week War Metal is great. Also where do you buy Bone Awl records I just got a record player and I've really wanted some in my library for a while now

Besides Death and Morbid Angel, I listen to Nihilist and Rippikoulu for my death metal fix. Neither of them could be called modern, but they are solid as rock.

Thick and crushing means Stockholm sound to my ears. Try some Entombed, Dismember Nirvana 2002 and Grave. Possibly Soulside Journey by Darkthrone as well.

Awesome, thanks! They don't have to be modern, don't know why I said that.

Keep 'em coming! :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r70ZMcGkf0A&feature=related About as primitive as death metal gets. I think this band sums up "thick production" and "brutality".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3x9FB-ydw4&feature=related These guys are sort of modern but they play it old school. Just riffs upon riffs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgZcYgoFZBM Essential Swedish death metal band. Only released the one album.

Don't know much modern death metal bands with your parameter's (thick productions went out the window with pro-tools). But http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk4BYf9j_yc are pretty fun.

If you're already listening to Death and Morbid Angel, have you checked out Obituary and/or Disincarnate? Certainly not new but that doesn't make them bad.

Convulse - World Without God
Molested - Blod Draum
Funebrarum - The Sleep or Morbid Dreams and Beneath The Columns of Abandoned Gods

I can't even begin to tell you how devastatingly crushing that Funebrarum stuff is.

Their 7" stuff is super limited and good luck with that, I've got a few, but you've either got to be quick, or trade for them. Both Meaningless Leaning Mess and Not For Our Feet should be readily available at Nuclear War Now! (www.nwnprod.com) for about 12 or 13 bucks each.

Yep. I need to find a copy of their EP, In The Name of God...Welcome To Planet Genocide. It's awesome. Excommunication of Christ is the only one I own currently.
