Moonsorrow puts on an incredible live show, definately see them if you have the chance. I'm likely seeing them again in April I believe with Swallow the Sun and Finntroll.

Yeah, I'm going to see if I can cancel my tickets for the Mono on May 1, and buy tickets to see both them and Moonsorrow in Austin on April 29 and 30. Now I just have to convince some friends to come see some awesome shows.. :)

Edit: Found out Moonsorrow's playing in Dallas on May 1 too, though at a different venue. Moonsorrow show starts at five, but they're touring with Finntroll and Swallow the Sun, so I'm sure they won't be done by the time the Mono show starts. Shame. I suppose it'd be too much awesomeness to see all this in one day.

Yes I am back ^_^

I wouldn't suggest listening to him on a great deal of interviews. this is just my opinion but he's crazy. I love his music but the things he has to say are generally pretty crazy  . That is interesting though but not surprising I guess. Do you have a URL to the interview?

Yes, true, Varg is off his rocker. Uh, I got the interview ina guitar world mag, I dont know if they have a link on the web.

March 24th is looking to be a good day, as that's when I'll be getting my vinyl copies of Burzum - Belus and Triptykon - Eparistera Daimones, as well as seeing Church Of Misery live.

Picked up a few new CDs.

- Wolfheart by Moonspell
- Elements Pt. 1 by Stratovarius
- Mardraum ? Beyond the Within by Enslaved

I almost picked up Faith Divides Us - Death Unites Us by Paradise Lost as well, although I decided against it. Was also toying with the new Eluveitie album, although I set that one down simply because I disliked Slania. Any one heard it and have opinions?

Yeah, the Eluveitie album seems like a not too bad one, but I haven't listened to it much yet. Quoth the Raven is a good song though.

Also what's a good Sigh album, I already have Hangman's Hymn, same with Gorgoroth, I have Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam and Quantos Possunt Ad Satanitatem Trahunt?

For Sigh, you want Imaginary Soundscapes and Gallows Gallery. I dont listen to Gorgoroth so I cant help you there.

I'm listening to the new Burzum song from the bottom of that Haunting the Chapel interview. Repetitive much?

I don't see how it's any different from Filosofem or Hviss. Repetitiveness was one of their strong-points. That song and Sverddans are probably the least repetitive.

I think I mentioned them earlier, but has anyone heard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MG6suI0gSx8&feature=related? If you dig stuff like Mekong Delta and Watchtower, this might quite possibly scratch your itch.

Toxik is ok...the only prog. thrash style band I enjoy is Mekong Delta, so I guess it's not surprising that they didn't blow me away or anything.

Got a HUGE list of new stuff again. Once again I will attempt to go through them.

Rotting Christ - Passage to Arcturo - Early EP from this seminal Greek black metal outfit. A bit different than Thy Might Contract, this is a bit more death metal.

Brown Jenkins - Death Obsession - Final LP from this one man black metal Godflesh worship machine. Excellent stuff.

Darkthrone - Soulside Journey - Darkthrone's debut LP. This is straight up death metal, nothing blackened about it.

Divine Eve - Vengeful and Obsinate - Return EP from this fantastic and overlooked US death metal band.

Dellamorte - Uglier and More Disgusting - Death-n-roll era Entombed worship. Really good stuff, probably even on par with some of Entombed's death-n-roll.

Evoke - Forever Breeding Evil - Riff havin', evil lovin' death metal from the UK. 12" EP.

Ares Kingdom - Incendiary - Latest release from these death thrash stalwarts. I'm not sure if I like this better than their other releases or not...

Bonesaw - Sawtopsy - Autopsy worship.

Goatpencs - Inhumanization - Melodic war metal from Brazil. Yep, you heard me, melodic war metal.

Abcess / Bonesaw split - Former Autopsy members sharing a CD with a band that worships Autopsy.

Master's Hammer - 4LP set + Flag - Killer re-release of two of the best black metal albums ever to come out of the Czech Republic. Comes with a huge flag with the Master's Hammer logo on it.

BAHIMIRON / TERATISM - Pact In Dizease And Profanation - US underground black metal. Got it on a recommendation, and haven't really listened to it much yet.

L?GER - Lugersnacht Faktion Tyranei - Raw black metal from France. Not the typical "experimental" French stuff...this is pure filthy raw black metal.

SATHANAS - Crunteus Diabolos - Blackened death metal from the US. These guys have been around a long time, and most of them did time in Acheron.

SODOM - Pretenders To The Throne - Unreleased 1984 EP. This is some RAW quality stuff. But if you can get passed the complete lack of production, it's not bad material.

TYPHUS - Profound Blasphemous Proclamtion - Blasphemous black metal from the US. Features a member of the mighty Morpheus Descends. Features some highly inappropriate and amusing song titles.

GAURITHOTH - Huoravasara 7" - Excellent Finnish black metal that no one seems to know about. This is the final release I needed to complete my collection of their recorded output.

Cauldron Black Ram - Slubberdegullion - Piratanical death metal from down under. Members of Portal...only these guys are better than Portal.

Army of Flying Robots - Life is Cheap CD - The UK's most scathing "emo-violence" band. Grindy hardcoe.

Snowblood - Snowblood CD - Scottish band that combines Godspeed You! Black Emperor with ISIS to great effect.

Battletorn - Reflect the Filth LP - Riffs. Did I mention riffs. This is an album full of riffs.

Black Witchery - Upheaval of Satanic Might - Second Black Witchery release. Kept eyeballing it, but never bought it. Finally committed. Great stuff.

Prophecy - Foretold...Foreseen - Death metal. I really enjoy this album, it's nothing new or special, it's just really well done.

Prophecy - Our Domain - Not as good as the first album, but still better than average.

Rok - This Is Satanik - SadEx front man playing sleazy black metal.

Shub Niggurath - Evilness and Darkness Prevails - Like The Chasm? Listen to this instead.

Shub Niggurath - Horror Creatures - Collection of demos from these Mexican death metal greats.

Shub Niggurath - The Kinglike Celebration - Last album. Haven't listened to it as much as the other two, so I'm not sure how it fits in..so far not as good as Evilness and Darkness Prevails.

Necro Christos - Triune Impurity Rites - This is sort of hard to find these days, but it's fantastic anti-technical occult death metal.

Teitanblood - Black Putrescence of Evil - Collection of split EPs and Demos from this anti-technical death metal band. One of my favorite current bands.

Cultes des Ghoules - H?xan - This got a lot of recommendations, and it lived up to the hype. Don't you love it when albums do that?

Mobosidad - S/T / Cojete A Dios Por El Culo - First two LPs on one CD. Moboso metal is underrated.

NME - Unholy Death Pic LP - Legendary. I'm stoked to have a copy of this finally. If you like black metal, you should know and love this album.

Sororicide - Deathless - All the tracks from this legendary Icelandic death metal band's split with Chorus of Ruin and the SPK compilation. I wish they'd re-release The Entity already.

Allfather - Weapon of Ascension LP - War metal with a member of 3 Inches of Blood. I approached it cautiously at first, but I trusted the guy at Invictus not to release garbage. I'm glad I did, in spite the 3IoB connection, there is little svck to be found here.

Christian Mistress - Mother of Mercy 7" - Another highly recommended band, I still haven't listened to this though...

Profanatica - Profanatitas De Domonatia PicLP - The latest in blasphemous content from Paul Ledney. This has a sweet die cut cover with the angel with the double horn...through which you can see the picture LP.

Funebrarum - Sleep of Morbid Dreams - One of the best modern death metal releases to come from the US in a LONG time.

Funebrarum - Beneath The Column of Abandoned Gods LP - I wish I could have found them both on LP...

Mortuary Draqe - Secret Sundaria - I prefer All The Witches Dance better, but a lot of people feel this is the best Mortuary Draqe release. You can't go wrong with Mortuary Draqe though, so even if I don't like it better...it's still well worth owning.

Malasangre - Inversus - I'm still haggling with the guy who supposed to be sending this to me, but it's amazing Italian funeral doom. One of my most recommended funeral doom albums ever.

Infester - To The Depths...in Degredation - Classic death metal album. This is long out of print, but the guys at Moribund dug out about 20 copies without a front cover. They put 'em up for sale for only 8 bucks a pop...I couldn't pass it up, although I do wish it had a front cover.

Melechesh - Sphynx - Most people are familiar with these guys by now. Mesopotamian themed black metal.

Grand Belial's Key - Mocking the Philanthropist - Debut GBK release. Now if I could only find Judeobeast Assassination for a decent price.

Melechish - Djinn - First album where they really started to experiment a bit. Before this they where straight up black metal.

Dying Fetus - Purification Through Violence PicLP - Dying Fetus' second full length on a sweet Pic. LP. How did this bad start to svck so much around the turn of the century?

Gasp - Earwigs Guide to Traveling - Extra strange power-violence. One of my top 10 bands in the punk/hardcoe genre.

Despise You - Westside Horizons
Despise You - Westside Horizons (Purple LP)
- CD and LP. One of my favorite bands ever. Negative power-violence.

Criminal Element - Crime and Punishment Pt. 1
Criminal Element - Criminally Contaminated
- On pre-order with Relapse. Their other albums have been super catchy. They're everything that Dying Fetus used to be...minus the politics.

Sarcofago - The Laws of Scourge - The second best Sarcofago album. Somehow it gets lost in the shuffle and everyone stops caring after INRI.

Authorize - The Source of Dominion - Classic Swedish death metal. This is on pre-order from the crypt. I'm getting a very nice blue vinyl 2xLP version.

Bewitched - Diabolical Desecration / Encyclopedia of Evil - Melodic black-n-roll. One of the few bands that stuck with me from my time with the Blackened compilation CDs when I was in high school. (Ved Buens Ende, Havohej, and Impaled Nazarine being the others...)

Jacula - In Cauda Semper Stat Venenum
Jacula - Tardo Pede In Magiam Versus
- Goblin, about 6 years before Goblin, and with less cheese and synthetic garbage than Goblin. Occult freak out organ music from the late 60's and early 70's respectively.

Roses Never Fade - S/T - Dwid from Integrity bowing at the altar of Death in June.

The Arid Sea - New Roman Twilight - Joy Division worship with members of the highly underrated hardcoe band State of the Union.

Shellac - 1000 Hurts - Steve Albini being awesome...again.

Schnauzer/Punching Moses split - I got this for the Schnauzer stuff. Punching Moses is OK. The Schnauzer song "The Facts of Life" is pretty much an anthem for the disappointed.

Gorefest - False / Erase - Dutch death metal. This has the bands second and third albums plus some extras.

Dream Death - Back From The Dead - Sludge before sludge even existed as a genre. Someone once told me they where like a sludge version of early Slayer...that description isn't as off as it sounds. This CD is demo material from 1986 and 1988.

Gnaw Their Tongues - All The Dread Magnifices of Perversity - Noisy black metal. Pretty harsh stuff. Got it on a recommendation, and I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.

Gnaw Their Tongues - An Epiphanic Vomiting of Blood - I feel even less into this album as I do the one above it. Not awful by any means, just really hard to get into.

Profanatica - The Enemy of Virtue - Collection of most of their previous releases. Recommended if you like filthy USBM.

Psychomancer - Butchered - This came for free in one of my orders...if that happens to you, throw it out. It's not worth it.

Ice Nine - Discography - The BEST hardcoe band that no one ever paid any attention to. They blend styles from all over the place. This would get a 5 star rating if I did that kind of thing.

Ulcer - Discography - A fantastic and very overlooked powerviolence band. They where like Dropdead, if Dropdead where sick of life instead of preachy.

Liers In Wait - Spirtually Uncontrolled Art - A classic Swedish death metal gem.

At The Gates / Grotesque - Gardens of Grief / In The Embrace of Evil - I bought this for the Grotesque stuff entirely, as I'm not an ATG fan. I found myself enjoy the ATG stuff on this fairly well...it's pretty much a continuation of Grotesque. Too bad they started to svck up the formula after they released this EP.

GISM - M.A.N. - Yet another GISM bootleg. This is a boot of their better album in my opinion.

Cromagnon - Cave Rock - One of the strangest records I've ever heard. Tribal-freak out-proto black metal...but from 1969.

Dying Fetus - Killing On Adrenaline - My favorite of the Dying Fetus albums. Probably because it's the one I'm most familiar with.

The Arid Sea - The Dark Solace
The Arid Sea - The Fading Crosses
- Both demos from this depressing joy division style band.

Bone Awl - Night's Middle
Bone Awl - Undying Glare
- Both out of print 7" from this punkish black metal band. Great stuff.

Malveillance - L'appel du Neant / Le Froid du Nord - The best punkish black metal band out there. This is a demo collection.

Secrets of the Moon - Privilegivm - Finally picked this up. Can't say I care for it as much as their other albums, but it's hardly what I would call bad.

Malveillance - Insignifiance - So good...I can't stress how much better this is than Bone Awl when you're in the mood for punkish black metal.

Gorefest - Soul Survivor / Chapter 13 - Death-n-roll era Gorefest...all in a nice 2 CD package. These are some of their most hated albums...but I enjoy them.

Evoke - Dreaming The Reality - Riff-tastic, blasphemous death metal from the UK. This is their debut LP.

Rotting Christ - Non Serviam - The last of the truly amazing Rotting Christ albums. They died here to me.

Gorefest - Mindloss / Demos - First Gorefest album with a bonus CD of their 2 demos. Easily their best stuff.

Mitochondrion - Archaegeon CD - If progressive war metal was a genre, these guys would be the forefathers.

Sacrifice - Forward to Termination 2xCD - Canadian thrash. A classic.

Acme - 7" - I have this stuff on CD, but I always like owning the original vinyl releases better. Some of the most crushing metalcore (don't get the wrong idea, this isn't modern metalcore) ever recorded.

Nausea - Demo 7" - The best crust band ever released this as a "fan club only" release sometime in the early 90's. Impossible to find these days.

Rotting Christ - Thy Mighty Contract - Their best black metal album hands down.

Obscurus Advocam - Verbia Daemonicus - Riffy occult black metal from France.

Generation of Vipers - Grace
Generation of Vipers - Dead Circle
- Sludge from TN. Really atmospheric stuff.

Nausea - Extinction LP (First Press) - Gatefold first pressing of the best crust record of all time.

Tiamat - Sumerian Cry - Forget Wildhoney, this is straight up nasty death metal. My favorite Tiamat album...almost on par with the Treblinka stuff.

Brown Jenkins - Dagonite - First LP from this one man sludge black metal band. Not as much Godflesh worship on this album as the later two.

Brown Jenkins - Angel Eyes - Here's where the Godflesh worship seems to start. You can't mess with Godflesh gone black metal.

Bodychoke - Cold River Songs - Noise-rock/metal. I'm not sure I'd call this metal, but it's too heavy to be noise rock. Really friggin' good though.

Octinomos - Fhole Armageddon - Third album from this one man band who would eventually go on to do the neo-classical group Puissance.

Goatpencs - Biochemterrorism - Latest release from this melodic war metal band. Amazing stuff.

Wicked Innocence - Omnipotence - It's like Obscura, but catchy. Can't recommend this highly enough.

mercifully snipped

Aw come on, Goblin's synth sounds are pretty amazing; much better and funkier than a lot of other 70's prog groups. I've only heard the former Jacula album like once, and it didn't really grab me, but I'll have to go back and listen again. I realize this is probably the least metal thing I could have discussed from your list, but hey, you posted it.

I'm a 3/4 of the time stay at home dad. I have some college courses, 2 - 3 hours a day 4 times a week, but other than that, all I do is hang out at home and listen to music and play with/watch my son. I'd love to go back to work...but my back injury isn't permitting that...

It's pretty easy to rip through at least 10 albums a day when you just put 'em in the CD changer 5 at a time...or if it's a vinyl day, you're on top of flipping and changing.

My main problem is money. I wish I could afford a third of what you get hold of. I'm at home most of the week (I only work one day a week, and have a violin lesson and a guitar lesson once a week each).

I'm a deal hunter...and I have no other "vices". I don't play video games, except for a select few, I don't enjoy most movies, I don't smoke, I don't drink, I don't eat out, no drugs, no comics, etc. Music is pretty much my ONLY entertainment expense.

I am pretty much the same. I only spend money on music. I just love getting new music all the time. And its funny that you or I are on this forum, a gaming forum, when we dont really play video games (expect a few). I do like the people in this metal thread though. I get lots of great recommendations.

I suppose I could start posting all the new music I get, when I get some time. As you will notice I haven't been updating the OP as real life stuff has kept me extremely busy.

Yeah, my first huge post sort of made it hard to keep up with listing all the bands in the first post.

I LOVE TES and Fallout, have for years and years. Two of the few game series I actually keep up with.

I've seen lots of stupid band names. I guess Goatpencs fits the bill.

Also, that Cultes des Ghoules album is pretty good, indeed.

And the Varg interview was great!

1. Go to metal-archives.com
2. Search for the word "goat" by bands.
3. ????
