I Miss the Old Days, Back When it Was Hard to Get Good Armou

LOL killed Umbra at level 1...
I'm not even sure you could withstand half a dozen hits at level one. Given her speed you can't even run fast enough to escape.
I never ran from her. She is really not all that strong as long as you are semi-competent. If you REALLY cant beat her then lure her back into the 2nd room and let the gas mess her up

Oh, I've beaten her a few times. But it is impossible at level 1 without cheating. You're a one hit wonder.

High grade armors are not easy to get. You have to complete half the DB quest and go into a forsworn stronghold that is almost a suicide mission to get Ancient Shrouded Armor, you have to take 5 perks or get 90 conjuration with rare ingredients to make Daedric, do most of the TG quests to get Nightingale Armor which is leveled, and finding a full set of Ebony will take at least level 40 to find a full set unless your really lucky or you have the treasure hunter perk.

I agree high level armor isnt easy to get

I think the problem is leveled loot/merchandise. It does kill some of the fun. I look forward to what (if any) story is attached to dungeons. There's little incentive to explore them otherwise, save questing.

I still have yet to obtain full sets of Daedric and Dragon (both scale and bone armors)

Likewise, I'm lucky if I even find Ebony armor unless I kill a mercenary on the road.

I mainly find weapons and boots of the top tier variety. Sometimes on a good day I might find a Dragonscale or Dragonbone armor.

I don't smith, except for making Gold Jeweled Necklaces. My High Elf is a jewelery enthusiast.

Get a high bounty at high levels and bounty hunters come after you. They're usually decked out in the best of everything.

Drake Malice, just stop. You are obviously lying, or playing a heavily modded version of Oblivion if you can kill Umbra at level 1. That's nonsense.

I play on xbox so no mods. I did not think it was that apparent that i am the only person on Nirn that can kill Umbra on level 1. If nobody else can do it then Beth needs to give me a medal or everybody else needs to check their reflexes because it is not difficult. I even went back to play OB a couple days ago and start a new toon and guess what the 1st thing i did once i left the sewer was: Kill Umbra, give the sword to Vile, sell the ebony armor, scroll glitch the masque and get rich, buy steel gear, and finally save kvatch. This is the EXACT routine i use to start off every toon...then again i dont give a [censored]. If you dont believe then fine, but if yu are just jealous that i can kill a supposedly difficult enemy in an easy game on a daily basis then what does that say about yu?

The "normal difficulty" would be the default setting where player damage is 1x and NPC damage is 1x. In Oblivion, if you move the slider all the way to the left, player damage goes up to 6x and NPC damage goes down to 1/6x. At that setting I am sure anyone could defeat Umbra at first level.

Im with you on this, that would be the only way that these people who are making all these incredible lvl 1 claims to be able to actually do anything, like that freazerpants or whatver his name is guy saying you can beat morrowind on lvl 1 and shows me this video of a guy doing, but in Morrowind you move like a [censored] snail trying to drag a dead turtle at lvl 1 there is no way the [censored] can be done without mods or glitches to boost the stats up i think even with the difficulty on [censored] mode it would still be a challenge to do, but then again why even bring up something that you can do in a game if you have to change the difficulty from the default settings to be able to do it. anyway in skyrim I think that the system in place to let you get armors isnt perfect yet, but we will see in the next TES game (TES online doesn't count)

Morrowind is piss easy and I'm guessing Oblivion isn't too hard either. Don't judge others by your own mediocrity if you're not able to hit/move/hit/move yourself.

actaully i gave up on the argument awhile ago lol i was just trying to push your buttons. tbh i dont care if you can or cant do something at lvl 1, personally i cant but im not really one of those types of guys thats like because im not able to do something means that if you can then your cheating, either way im still enjoying my game when i play.

Considering Morrowind is entirely character stat based combat, this whole argument is nothing but flame bait.

your right i guess he was wearing the boots of blinding speed, my bad

Yes, and he used Orc so he could actually see while wearing them, something I did time and time again.

Oh shall I go Bosmer? Nah going to go Orc so I can move in levitate really fast and actually see where I'm going lol.

I forgot that I had been playing a Breton who always wore the Boots of Blinding Speed, I actually thought my screen brightness was out of adjustment when I started replaying a different character.
I can get a Steel Plate Cuirass, Gauntlets, and Boots on a level one character in Skyrim, but it is not as fun as it was getting a set of Nordic Chain (and a free bed) in Solsthiem at level 1.

Astounding ignorance.

It was easier in Morrowind to get good armor simply because once you knew where something was, you could go grab it every time, in every game.

I could have full glass armor in Morrowind 20 minutes after rolling a new character.
That would NEVER happen in Skyrim, or Oblivion for that matter.

problem is that it would take hell of a long time to find all those places with out using a FAQ or Walkthrough, and if we count using FAQs and Walkthroughs than we might as well count in the consol. Full daedric and glass armor in both Morrowind and Skyrim

Don't you just miss how in Morrowind it was very difficult to get a full set of good armour?

It was so much more rewarding when you did get good gear

Unfortunately.. when designing a game for 12 year olds, a game dev has to take into account their ADHD, lack of attention, suger induced hyperactivity and self entitled, spoiled brat mentality. Designing the game with this mindset is ultimately what stopped skyrim from reaching the heighs it could have.

Wrong wrong wrong wrong.

The biggest problem with Morrowind combat that it is NOT entirely stat based, you can easily cheesy it by simply sidestepping the enemy's every move, no matter how much AC you have, you can also just backtrack and shoot at them.

As for the topic at hand, duh, it is easy to get one if you learn to make it... but it kinda comes at the cost of specialization. You have to go trough the entire skill tree to get Daedric, it's also not cheap. If you don't want to go into the smithing tree, like you are playing a battle-mage or a thief and you really have no reason to train smithing, getting higher tier armor is going to be hard.

And yes, in Morrowind you could get a full set of Glass Armor just because the shopkeeper never looks at his merchandise... that's hard I guess...

Right. In a completely character skill based game combat would be like Neverwinter Nigths or Dragon Age. You order your character to attack, and dice and math does the rest. All Bethesda games have always relied partially on player skill.

Anyway, on topic, the level scaling of Skyrim ensures that high level armors don't exist when you start the game (though there are places to get Ebony weapons and shield at level 1 ;)), so i'd say it's harder, or atleast takes more time in Skyrim just because of that.

I don't think it's so much about being "hard to get" as actually rare. In Skyrim, Daedric Armor is actually harder to get on a timescale basis than Morrowind, but once you can craft it, it's far too easy. Conversely, while you can get a set of Daedric in Morrowind very quickly, through all the expansions, there was only two sets, and some change (Greaves/Cuirass). Also, you had to break your main quest (Outside of backdoor wraithguard) to acquire a set quickly. The "Legit Set" was only available, quite literally after months of adventuring. (I absolutely love how they scattered Daedric pieces through the game at important points in questlines, like Kogorhun, Dealing with Orvas Dren, Pyroil Tar, etc.)

This is a good point. Once you can smith Daedric in Skyrim, it is pretty easy to make multiple sets. Ebony is plentiful and you can buy Daedra hearts at your local alchemist. Contrast that with Morrowind where there are only two sets of Daedric Armor in the entire world (including expansions). Since you can only enchant gear once, that really makes you think about what enchantments you want to put on it. They should not have made Daedra hearts an item that was stocked by vendors. They should have been rare and hard to get.

Lol, I am with you. I don't bother with glitches and cheats. Morrowind is full of them, like the infamous Sunder Keening glitch. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Cheats Those 10 minute Morrowind videos are making copious use of these glitches and cheats as explained here in the Morrowind Speed Run Archive. http://speeddemosarchive.com/Morrowind.html

Even if you never go to an alchemist, Daedra Hearts are easy to get.

Just do the Mehrunes Razor Daedric Quest and you can have an unending supply of Daedra Hearts (and some really good loot on top of it...).

And Daedric Armor/Weapons are rare and hard to get. I can guarantee (almost) that once you reach a level and Smithing Skill where you can make Daedric equipment, that you are most likely the only person in Skyrim churning it out. When was the last time you remember seeing a vendor stocking Daedric Equipment that you didn't sell to him in the first place?

Plus the time it takes to get to the 100 in Smithing to be able to rip out Daedric equipment is no small amount of time adventuring, even if you're spamming the forge to get to 100 it still takes quite some time and effort. You have to resupply with leather, leather strips, and Iron ingots at sometime and the vendors only sell so much.

It's not as easy to get the best stuff in Skyrim as the OP states. It was infinitely easier to get it in Morrowind (as so many people have already mentioned), all you had to do was commit a small couple acts of larceny and "poof" full set of Glass.

Naw, it's actually pretty challenging and time-consuming to get the best stuff in Skyrim. And since 1.5 dropped, they retooled how the leveling of the Smithing Skill works, so it takes much longer to get to 100 if you're just churning out Leather Bracers and Iron Daggers. You have to make Leather Armor (the "cuirass" part) to keep the grinding on the same scale as before 1.5.

I do not believe that for a second. You did not even know that her armor was not real Ebony at low levels. She has almost 400 health and she regenerates 2 points of health per second. She also has 100 in Strength, Speed, Atheletics, Blade, Blunt, Heavy Armor, etc. There is no way you killed Umbra at level one. But I would be entertained to hear you describe how you did it . . .

He's not lying. You can actually go on YouTube to find several strategies on how to beat Umbra as the first thing you do when you walk out of the sewers. I did it too.

If you choose not to smith Daedric Armor, you'll find that it's extremely rare. It didn't fit with my role-playing so I didn't smith it (cuz my fighter wouldn't wear that evil stuff). But after hours of exploration at high levels 45+ I only found a few bits and pieces here and there... no full suits. It was soooo easy to find a full set of Daedric in Oblivion versus Morrowind or Skyrim.
