I Miss the Old Days, Back When it Was Hard to Get Good Armou

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 8:54 am

I personally remember hating being below level 20 on morrowind so I would start every game by raiding ghost fence and doing the mages guild to get that crazy 80000 gold soul gem and running up to the mud crab merchant or ghorak manor and becoming richer than scrooge within the first few hours and then power training my self up to 20 so that my main combat skill and armor wernt useless and I didn't walk as slow as an elderly person.

Morrowind was one of my favorite games of all time but no one can deny that playing a low level character was torture in that game as you missed mud crabs a million times before hitting them. I didn't read any guides or faqs to figure out how to do that stuff. I simply played the game one time. Morrowind had a lot of good features but rareness of awesome items was not one of them. Hell i liked getting god gear right off the bat on subsequent characters. (Only needed to expiriance the pain of being a low level character once)

Which you needed to be good enough to beat. Which makes sense doesn't it?

I agree with these points completely.
I think that the bit about beating the MQ on lvl1 is a an exaggeration however - to reverse a previous question I was asked, where in Skyrim can you find and get daedric armour at lvl1?

You don't.
But you can obtain it almost without leaving whiterun if you choose, which I personally think is a little easy.

Because at lvl 1 you could easy have top armor in Morrowind... Skyrim is alot harder gearing up wide than previous TES series. Either you guys are really crazy and grind your eyes out on professions or something... Looting top tier stuff at Skyrim is hard...

I would honestly say that it is 100% impossible to find daedric armor at lvl 1 in skyrim. Everything in the game is leveled so you wont find it till you reach a certain point.

Edit - to Destram211 ok prove me wrong, go play Morrowind right now and fight Umbra at lvl 1 and take his orcish armor

hint you WILL not be able to beat him, even if you change the difficutly to super easy or whatever

It was easier in Morrowind to get good armor simply because once you knew where something was, you could go grab it every time, in every game.

I could have full glass armor in Morrowind 20 minutes after rolling a new character.
That would NEVER happen in Skyrim, or Oblivion for that matter.

As far as crafting being broken it was 10 time more broken in morrowind now that I remember it. My first character (before i started gimping my self on purpose) had an insane amount of sanctuary, reflect, life/stamina regain and spell absorption. He was literally invincible in a way that's not even possible in skyrim now that there are armor and resistance caps. I distinctly remember seeing a mountain and jumping over it instead of trying to go around it since i had jump/slow fall enchanted on my gear and I thought to myself "wow I really broke this game".

Not only could you get good gear much earlier in morrowind, late game you could become hilariously overpowered. I don't understand the point people are trying to make about how theres no point to go out and find good gear in skyrim because all the best stuff was crafted. It was the same thing back in morrwoind.

Like i said before you could know where to go and who to kill to get a full set of daedric armor right at the get go of lvl 1 but in all honesty at lvl 1 your character would have 0% chance of killing that NPC to get it

Unless you play with a lot of self restraint, you'll be overpowered in no time. Not just in terms of armor, but skills, gold and weapons as well. Fortunately I do have self restraint and only wear the armor and use the weapons I find appealing and suitable for my character, so I don't end up feeling I've broken the game, which is nice cause I don't end up hating on Skyrim and Beth =)

Yeah today just for the heck of it i wore my legendary daedric armor and i had an AR of over 700 and went to a dungeon and would let the baddys just hit me for a few minutes then zap them with my pikachu thunderbolt lol but im glad usually when i play i have an AR of a little over 300 not to gimp myself but because I RP and my armor looks just to epic to store away

In Oblivion you can get Ebony at level 1 from Umbra, Full Daedric with the Bound Armor Glitch, Elven armr by doing some of the Fighters guild, plus with the sleep save glitch get to any level and get the armor you want

IMO it's hard to get daedric armor than it was in Oblivion.

I see NO NPCS whatsoever in all my days playing, wearing any of this stuff. The pieces I have were lucky finds, otherwise I had to make my own.

Seeing as you can use those Jump-scrolls from the wood elf at level 1 to jump to the endboss and kill him, yes sure.

I agree with most in here that I don't think getting good armor in Skyrim is any less difficult than it was in Morrowind or Oblivion. Even at lvl 52 finding high level daedric armors as loot is a pretty rare occurrence, and now that smiting has been updated its no longer near as easy to level up smiting to craft up a great set.

I know this doesn't apply to vanilla morrowind, but I can go start up a new character, sleep for a day or two, kill the DB assassin that inevitably attacks me, and all of a sudden I have light armor that is better than a majority of the armor sets I'll find for the rest of the game. Either that or play the game through once and you'll know where to go to find the best armor early on anyway.

In both Skyrim and Morrowind you have to use some restraint and limits if you want to avoid overpowering yourself.

imo the fact that i see not one other person wearing at least ebony or glass hell id take orcish armor disappoints me. They dont have to be lootable but its hard to belive that in Skyrim the Dovahkiin is the only one running around decked out in full Ebony Orcish and not a single bandit uses anything but steel. Bandits use the same generic steel armor at lvl 81 that they used at lvl 1. All my hi end weps come from the dead, wtf is an ancient nord zombie doing holding a modern age Ebony battle axe? Shouldnt he have a higher tier perhaps more intricate drauger axe? This is where they dropped the ball in my opinion. The had a few different choices if you wanted light armor in the beginning but dropped the ball in the end, and is it just me or does it not make to anyone else that you have a light leather armor in a winter thundra and yet somehow no pants!? has anyone added pants to the leather armor? because its something i have been wishing for the longest. And id rather they be baggy made of fur or wolf hide. Would have been nice if the animal you made an armor from had a direct effect on the final outcome like a wolf fur leather armor should have been black possibly furry and longer cut while a mammoth fur hide armor could have been a heavy variety of leather? or a sheep wool armor could have been fluffy? I have some ideas but kinda tired walking around in a medival setting looking like a scifi hero or a demon, or like I stepped out of the world of monster hunter. I want something more practical and yet realistic.

Edit: What i mean is, the armor worn by legion should be adequate and have good defence, if im fighting a evil lord of a town, I dont expect him to be in regular rags, i want to see some flair in his gear.

but you cant kill Dagoth Ur at lvl 1 you will literally die in 1 or 2 hits and you will only be able to hit him like 1 in 5 attacks you wouldnt be able to use any strong spells you health would be low, stamina low, speed low, you would be a little [censored] punching bag and to say that you could do it at lvl 1 makes you look like an ignorant ass who probably never played the dame game in the first place, ofcourse there are glitches to increase strength, health speed and what not but nobody has said anything about using glitches.

I've done it myself, unmodded. That's just how easy Morrowind is.

Yes but a full set of Daedric was [censored] to get unless you were willing to kill a valuable NPC, or wait until the main quest was completed. The best medium armor required you to slog through the whole tribunal temple questline.

Sounds like a blast... :glare: I think its cool to run across these items early. It is what keeps the game FUN. Though I do enjoy challenges, not everyone wants to 'slog' through a game to acquire a piece of armor.
