Most Unwanted Class

How would you know if he proved you wrong if you "refuse to read his post?"
Based on the way you responded to different points in his post, I'm inclined to believe that its just a way to avoid responding to certain parts of what he said.

But anyway, Since you are asking for sources where Heavy characters are balanced, I would like to ask for games where they are not balanced, like you seem to think are everywhere. So far you have only mentioned TF2, which if you ask me is balanced pretty well, all things considered, and is still being tweaked to this day. Natasha is a bit OP, but they are working on fixing that in their current beta. Yes, one on one, the heavy is overwhelming, but both teams can use them, and they are an important part of most teams. At the same time, a team that was all heavies or all heavies and medics would fail.

You site TF2 as an example where heavies fail, but in my experience, a team with a good balance of all of the classes is the one that does the best. This is what I said earlier, and you described it as being far too hopeful or a perfect situation, but I've seen it work out that way in a real, competitive, game.

You also have to remember, he is strictly speaking about competitive play, not pubs. So even if you had an example where Heavies work, if it doesn't apply to comp play, he doesn't care. I find his request laughable - how many shooters, that are played at a competitive level, even have a light, medium and heavy to choose from? Like as handful? And out of that handful, he's asking for an example where Heavies are not just balanced, but balanced to competitive standards. It's also laughable that the method of him "disproving" any suggestions, is just him saying "nope, they're not balanced," and then giving his opinions why, so even if you did find a valid example, he would probably dismiss it regardless.

Seriously everyone just needs to calm. When Brink comes out we can settle this like men. By playing Brink.

in tf2, natasha heavies were so powerful, they were banned from competitve use. soldiers and demo's are the 2nd and 3rd heaviest classes in the game and make up half of practically every competitive team. Scouts lack the versatility of their heavier teamates and are often relied upon to switch to a heavier class, particularly a heavy in competitive play.

Something tells me it'll be fairly balanced. Probably reinforced by SD's desire to get and keep customers, and thus money.

I was honestly very excited about getting Brink and building a light character because I believe that would have truly suited my play style. But maybe I'll have a switch around a bit because these light fans seem to be a bit snooty.

But those are extremes; demo and soldiers play style are completely different than a scout and their health/movement speed are in terms of being doubled.

I just don't see those extremes being applied to where a heavy tanks that much more and a light moves that much faster, but like i said this is pure speculation and we'll see what happens in game.

To the kid who brought up wolf:et, classes were situational and sometimes you pulled a 6man medic trainrush depending on the situation. What i think you guys don't get is that a heavy and a light is different than a demo and a scout or something.
Arguing about speculation is ignorant; personally i hope i'm wrong because i'd like to see a lot of diversity in the game.

I'm hoping for diversity and fun. And not a bunch of weird ninja assassins running around.

Lights i don't think are going to be on a ratio of speed from heavy to scout like tf2, so i don't think that will be an issue anyway.

So you think maybe the HVYs will move at like 85%(instead of 50) to the LITs 120% (instead of 200) and and the health will be more like 85/120 vice versa but the HVY's gonna be easier to hit? Do you really think that SD is gonna go through all the trouble of creating these classes and moving the release date back and not have the HVYs be competitively viable?

i think this type of discussion is kinda pointless... i doubt even splash damage is positive of the exact speed and health of all the bodytypes...

Personally I think all the bodytypes and classes will have their advantages and disadvantages.

But seeing as I have to vote, I'd say the heavy is the least useful simply because while using it you won't
be able to make full use of the S.M.A.R.T. system, which is one of the games main features.

I think that the heavyweight class seems pointless for mainly just one reason -
S.M.A.R.T. is a main feature in the game, but choosing this option limits this feature severely

So is the class system and objective driven multiplayer, The beauty of Brink is that you can play it how you want to play.

SMART is ONE of MANY rich aspects to a well balanced and carefully thought out game. It's gonna be a very cool feature but seriously the HVY is going to be the most appreciated supportive BODY TYPE in the game. The Heavy will be able to hand out more ammo, syringes, set up more turrents, and do way more stuff on top of carrying the big guns and take the big damage. Wait til the game comes out before you judge the heavy.

Parkour is cool and all, but one of the really cool things that SMART does is a bit more subtle. It allows the devs to actually put miscellaneous items in the maps to make them look much more realistic. In other games, even putting basic furniture into maps could make navigating a room difficult. In this respect, Heavies still utilize one of the main features of smart - immersion.

Yes, SMART is a main feature in the sense that it is a new and innovative selling point for Brink, that all players can engage in and essentially changes the way players are used to playing shooters. It is NOT a main feature in the sense that those players who have more access to it, spell the difference between victory and defeat and having less access to it, makes you less capable of playing your class and completing objectives.

SMART is not an "everything you can do, I can do better," game mechaninc - that comes down to player skill, regardless of bodytype, class, and SMART abilities.

If we are discussing the body type then light will probably be the least useful, im not saying it doesnt have its advantages but look at it, maybe you got boosted movement speed/abilities but in a fight you will lose because of the small ammount of hits you can take.

i'm hoping some type of nade jumping will be viable, so that the heavy isn't quite so tied down... it seems like the parkour aspect of the game gives a type of movement for lights and possibly mediums to try to master, and it would be disappointing if there was no advanced movement for a heavy player to master.

Well, I wouldn't count on nade jumping being practical for anything other than getting to unexpected places. Using nades (as opposed to rockets or remote detonation) to jump is usually pretty hard, because you have to time when its going to go off and jump at the right moment. Add in the fact that being close to an explosion will knock you over, and it becomes dangerous to use when the enemy are around.

Lots of people are constantly arguing over how many shots a bodytype can take. Most people that support the Heavies, think that they have loads and loads of health ( this is just from what i have seen, sorry if you dotn think that way), and they think the Lights have hardly anything. They also think that in every fight the Heavy will always win, because he has a better weapon, and more health. I dont understand is that, know one knows really how much more health the Heavy exactly has, or how little the Light has. No one can really say which class is the most useless until the game is released, or at the bare minimum theres some gameplay of Heavies vs Lights. I believe all classes will have their respects. Plus i can agree the Heavies will probably be better at killing 90% of the time, but you cant really just base what is the most useless on kills alone, its also about objectives. Thats my stand on it. Sorry if anyone takes offense to that. Plus why you guys fighting amongst each other over bodytype? Your bound to be on the same team, working towards the same goal at some point in time.

Me personally I can't wait to play as all the body types. I just don't understand people saying the heavy is useless and doesn't even need to be in the game because SMART is apparently the only feature in Brink. This thread itself could very well be called "What body type do you think you'll play as the most?" but it's basically a thread about which body type is pointless even though splash damage has an outstanding reputation for creating balanced amazing games. There's no argument. Every body type will have it's advantage and will be balanced against the next. people are just [censored] if they think their light is going to be ninja assassin that no one else can line a shot up on.

EDIT: The poll says "Which body type (CLASS is what's written which is incorrect genius. A medic or operative is a class) is the most useless?" Yes, this will begin a friendly discussion.

I'm pretty confident that most of us have accepted that all of the body types and classes are going to be effective for different playstyles, the only person I've really seen disagree with that notion is Justince who continutes to instist that the Light body is going to be able to overcome Heavies in any given scenario provided they play their cards right.

Also, as Jess pointed out, this poll is stupid for a myraid of reasons, I didn't even vote.
