New players... sheesh!

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:45 am

watching some new players is amusing because they are in awe with certain aspects and are scrambling trying to figure out what to do next. others are annoying because they point out flaws and talk endlessly about them as if the devs would just walk through the door and press a few buttons and suddenly everything is magically fixed and looks photorealistic. whereas with others (who thankfully are few) it feels as tho you are watching a dear family member be assaulted as they hurl out insults exploit any glitch they can and complain when combat doesnt go exactly as planned like an opponent moving to the side or even just blocking a hit.

Did You Know You Can Tell your Follower to cut wood at a Woodcutting post and your follower will collect 6 firewood for you? This works even without an axe! You can also tell your follower to use other things too but you get NO results except for the Mills which only cuts big logs into pieces.

I don't think they'll mine without a pickaxe though (pretty sure I tried, but it was a long time ago so ... ).

Say what now? "Charge" a bash? You [censored] with us?

Lol yeah my dumb self ended up forgetting about the perk at the time and went hours and hours thinking I could only do that small bash before finally holding the button in and charging the stronger bash.

I must have been in too much of a hurry going up the 7000 steps. At least I hope so. On my latest game I didn,'t get the Voice of the Sky effect. If I missed one of the pillars all would be explained and repairable.

I was way further than that into the game before I realized that you could swing a pickaxe manually at an ore vein to mine. It did not ever occur to me to do that until I read about it on this forum and I have been playing these games for years.

You can do that? :|

Lol, now I feel like the Noob.

well today i was bored in skyrim and I traveled to a mysterious dwemer dungeon that i never explored, I was in an extrmely dark pitch black room with a ball of light in the middle. I touched the ball of light then it opened a giant hole in the ground that ifell in. I fell very very very far into water and I worked my way up sneaking past falmer. It was a very weird but awesome moment. I forgot the dungeon name. its by stonewater cave. Just when I thought I wa out of things to do i found another adventure.

I found that dungeon the other way around. Lol. I climbed up through the exit and went into the water below. Then, I found a hole underwater that allows you to swim out into the void, basicly. So I kept swimming out then I fall and was teleported to the room with the light ball. I knew it was a trap so I left, to get the place on my map, then went back in so my followers will be transported up there. Told him to touch the ball and watched him fall.

Today I found out that in the perk menue you can scroll through the categories faster when you hold the mouse button instead of clicking separately all the time.

It was only about a week ago that I figured out how to end a fistfight. It had never occured to me that you have to put down your 'dukes' like they were a sword (or a pickaxe, for that matter). I would agree to get insulted, start a brawling, eventually the fella would fall over, I'd wait for him to apologize, wait some more, walk about in traditional 'what you looking at' posture, get bored, walk back to the fella, try to talk, accidentally punch him in the head again, all hell would break loose, and I'd get arrested.
Thought, "that was strangely real-world-like" and resolved until recently never to do it again.

I knew Followers would use Healing potions but I had never given other kinds to them. Today in a dragon priest lair, we had to go underwater so I gave a waterbreathing potion to Argis to see if he'd use it. I also gave him an invisibility potion just for kicks. He didn't use the waterbreathing potion probably because it wasn't a very long stretch underwater. When we had gotten through the lair though, I checked his inventory and the invisibility potion was gone. I have no idea when he used it because there was so much going on. That's something I'd like to catch a follower doing some day. :tes:

I didn't know that was possible either  Everytime I come across an ore vein, it just says "mine ore vein", and I just press X to start watching my char collect it. (yes, I'm on PS3)

Didn't know it either until now... :o

Still, I prefer to just press "Enter" (my "Action" button) while having a pickaxe on my inventory. My char mines a lot, and it saves me time.

It took me along time before I realised you can shoot hawks out of the sky to get their alchemical ingredients. Not easy though.

Shock magic is good for this as it has no travel time. As soon as the bird is in your sights, fire, and you should kill it.

Yep same here. And i didn't know i had a damn pip-boy flashlight for ever. After playing HUNDREDS of hours thinking why the hell didn't they put flashlights in this game. I can't see two feet in this pitch black subway tunnel. Then a loading screen pops up and says hold B to turn on your pip-boy flashlight. I swear to god i have seen EVERY other loading screen EXCEPT that one.

oh man.. I had the EXACT same deal in FONV. I was forever wondering wtf the loading screen that warned about turning off your pip-boy to help being sneaky meant.

I just started a new character and have been trying to actually role play... so after a long day roaming around catching butterflies and picking flowers I retired to the Bannered Mare for some Mead.
I went up to my room and sat on the balcony to listen to the bard and heard Hilda exclaim "Saadia wake up dear!" "Yes ma'am." And a few seconds later Saadia comes to take my order. Lol. Nothing stopping me from going downstairs to buy Mead but having someone wait on me made me say "Bow to the Dovakhin!".
