New Vegas trailer discussion

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:33 pm

And so the time has come to throw a bone to the dogs. But before we gnaw this particularly tasty morsel, let us take the time to break down some of it's more interesting tidbits. Myspeculations will follow the list.

1. Frank Sinatra playing during the trailer.
2. NCR flag next to ominous looking character.
3. Pip-Boy on ominous character's left wrist.
4. A7 on the back of the character's coat.
5. [7] on the left side of the character's helmet.
6. Strange apparatus on character's back below A7.
7. Some unidentifiable text on the back of character's helmet just above a small, finger sized hole or slit. Probably nothing.
8. Face gear on character.
9. New Vegas, possible structural landmarks (such as the tower with a disc at top).
10. What looks like a tunnel on the far left of the city-scape, at mountain base.
11. Complex on far right of city, shorter buildings, fewer lights.

My speculations

1. This was possibly used in order to give us a sense and feel of what the design of New Vegas is based on. The air and feel of Vegas during the Rat Pack period. Likely safe to say there will be rat pack references aplently in the game.
**2.I need more time to research the NCR before properly forming an opinion.
3. This points to either vault origins of the PC, or the PC having vault interactions early on. (possible ways of getting pipboy could be thievery, murder, bartering, or even integration into the society.
4. I can only guess that this relates to the character's unit/team/sectional/regional breakdown within the NCR.
5. see number 4.
6. kinda looks power armor-ish. Quite possibly a re-breather of some sort with some connection with the facemask.
7. Likely means nothing, if someone has the capability of enhancing it, it may be a hidden tidbit.
8. Yes we all know it looks like a helghast. But in all seriousness it looks alittle high-end, and together with the apparatus on the character's back, it gives me the impression of a Power Armor////Combat Armor Hybrid. Heavy looking shoulder plates and shiny black leather looking boots add to the effect.
9. I don't know much about Vegas, at all. But there may be some structures persisting between the real and game worlds.
10. Looks large enough to possibly be a train tunnel, likely connecting to or formerly connecting to the next major settlement/city. Or what was the next large settlement/city.
11. Could be any number of facilities such as water purification, waste management (imagine the references!), or power related. Or it could even be a downtown slum or second class citizen type area.

Please feel free to add any details you noticed in the trailer that I may have missed, and I will add them to the original list of details. And by all means speculate to your heart's desire, or offer your opinions on mine. All relevant interactions welcome!

Regarding number 9, The Fishy Wanderer suggests this may be the real world equivalent of the tower seen in the trailer. http://www.arrivelasvegas.com/sp/Stratosphere_2.jpg

Finally, someone that takes things more seriously. It looks it will bring some much needed color to the visual side, which would be great. We seem to have at least a new type of robot, something scavenging related. Vegas seems to be in a great shape, maybe even a bit over the top. Still, it's been around 200 yeats after the war. The NCR reference is pretty clear, it's nice to see it will be brough back somehow. Also, a fresh body in the cemetery and not buried. This might hint to something, maybe something related to a mafia-type organisation in the city. The atmosphere in the teaser at least is pretty good, hope it will at least match that of F3.

Yeah, I enjoy it too. I'm pretty hyped about New Vegas, being developed by Obsidian. I hope to see some outstanding dialogues and a true SPECIAL usage.

I've made this one the second thread of the trailer discussion rather than having duplicate threads cluttering up the place. Hope nobody minds.

There was no climb feature in Fallout 3 and since that's a pretty advanced thing to implement in a game (any game!), I'm more thinking they're using the mountains as natural barriers for the player.. instead of those ridiculous invisible walls Bethesda used.

I've been reading through these threads for the past 20 minutes intending to post but by the time I reach the next page there's another one! I thought I was going insane!

Anyway, I'm not sure how I'll feel about the intact city, and functional civilizations (I haven't gotten very far into FO2 and never played 1). But only time will tell. I have confidence in obsidian and Bethesda's ability to make good games. Only time will tell.

Well, assuming that it takes place either simultaneously or after Fallout 3, it's been 200 years since the bombs dropped. That's a lot of time, and in F1 and 2 there was actually a considerable progress made towards rebuilding society. In F3 the Capital Wasteland has been essentially under siege by the forces of the super mutants and society hasn't rebuilt to the same level as on the west coast.

Pip-Boys were not only used by the Vaults. They were a RobCo product - only version 3000 was made specifically for Vault-Tec.

Does anyone else get the feeling from the trailer, that the NCR has just arrived and there's a war/annexation coming?

You don't, lots of people haven't played the first two games. They're over ten years old!

Yes, it does look like that. Does anyone know when exactly is the action taking place? Also, are there any mentions in the first two Fallouts about New Vegas being so developed? I only played F2 before F3.
