New Vegas trailer discussion

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:32 pm

Nuclear Holocaust has holes and variables. Vegas is not a strategic location, and would have likely died quickly after the rest of America was wasted, therefore little to no tonnage would be wasted on it. A perfect example is the Pitt, witch was mostly unbombed, of course, unlike Vegas, witch is well distant from waterway, The Pitt's rivers turned it into a nuclear heatsink. On the other hand you have San Fran, witch is the literal economic gateway to the far east, and location of stratiegic nuclear defence, that in the Fallout Universe, is likely still very active by that time, making it the best place to dump a load of fission.

No one will bomb the arctic poles, so if you ever get paranoid, invest in the Antarctic landmass!

Another variable will now be dubbed the "Megaton Settlement" effect. That one bomb in Megaton could have wiped out a great chunk of the city of DC, but was a dud. Enough luck and you could have whole metropolis area survive, although the chances are slim.

Just noticed that the graveyard in the trailer looks a lot like Golgatha in Fallout 2....

Maybe we'll find more of Mordino's stash? ;)

Exactly what I was thinking.

It looked as if the viewer had just missed Mr. 7 throwing the flag into the ground. He's surveying the soon-to-be battlefield, no doubt.

It might also explain why New Vegas is in such good shape. Maybe the impending attack will leave it in shambles.

Well OXM UK is doing an issue on F:NV that's coming out on the 11th of February. It will have the first official info in it. So sorry US guys your just gonna have to wait another month to get your hands on it, that's just the way it works, OXM US get halo reach and OXM UK get Fallout New Vegas.

Well I've watched the trailer several times now, and i think there are subtle clues the possible storyline .

First scene shows a cowboy screen on the robots body that changes experssions, I do think that it will represent the robots outlook towards you at the moment. Next we notice the robot sifted through the sand and moving rocks. Either this robot is sent out to scavenge for a certain person, it's a grave yard care taker, or this robot is searching for something in particular because there are not other robots around at all. The shot zooms back and the trench coat guy becomes in view. First thing i noticed after the reveal was the flag. It is a New Republic of California flag but it's already firmly planted in the ground. It is also tattered and torn. the characters position is in front of the flag however, I may be in the minority but I don't know if I associate him with flag. The next thing I noticed was the numbering on his back and Helmet, A7 and [7] respectively. After seeing the number and clothing of the person I kind of doubt they are a vault person. The vault suites are blue and yellow and have been established pretty well. My next choice would be that he is military of some sort. This could be section A7 or Alpha-7, with his helmet and head apparatus corresponding to his sector, 7...desert area with a re breather type of device. The person turns their head and we see the red glow that people have called him the Helghast. To me though, the red glow either appears to be a reflection from a red sign...possibly the welcome to fabulous Las Vegas sign, or light coming from inside the mask as if leaking out of the cracks wear the lenses would be, maybe its a kind of night vision since its dark and terrible out. My theory for the Vegas sign comes from the fact that an enhanced image of a screen shot shows that down to the left of wear that person is standing, is what appears to be some scrap metal from something, and looks similar to the point or corner to that sign.

After taking that all in, I think that the trailer sets up the main portion of the city we will be in or around by showing it in the distance. It shows us the waste surrounding the area...and then is possibly shows that the NCR has either extended far enough to but borders with this New Vegas area or it represents sort of a battle area fought over between the two. The person shown must be sort of a sentry or guard for the border, but the fact that he is in front of the flag and gathering information about what lies ahead of him to me would suggest a possible war between the two territories over resources including electricity.

What seems to be the general consensus among everyone else?

I'm thinking A7 could be area 7 relating to area 51, and the Area Xs are early, more military versions of the vaul tech vaults. Thinking this as NV is more of a side story to the main vault tech story line.

am I right to assume beth studios are currently developing fallout 4?

I just thought about this after reading your post. Since we can assume the BOS soldier in the F3 teaser could be the Lone Wanderer after the MQ - something like a Wasteland protector - it is somehow probable that the character in the NV teaser is the player character and because he stands close to the NCR flag maybe he is sent to NV by the NCR to make sure it will surrender control. He seems to wear a Pipboy so it's probable that he is from a vault. If not, but keeping the F3 teaser in sight, we can assume he's a soldier for one of the major factions that we'll see in the game. Also, maybe the timeline allows that he is Tycho.
I don't think the light on his helmet comes from a sign - it seems to come from inside the helmet. So it could be nightvision or maybe some king of indicator announcing an atack. And what about the structure in the left of the city? Is it a tunnel, Hoover Dam or what?
Yeah, not much new, I know, but it might be that the player will have orders to make sure the NCR takes control of Vegas in the MQ.
About F4, I agree, Beth must now be working on TES5 and probably have already started F4.

If that's the case the events in NV must be fairly minor in regard to altering to plot of the fallout universe, OR the script was completed a while ago which suggests it's going to be a pick up off the Van buren project, assumingly with some of the released plot details altered - such as starting off as a prisoner.

Since the game is scheduled for fall, I'm pretty sure the script was finished a long time ago. It's pretty soon they'll go into crunch mode for it. But, does anyone know if it is confirmed that the events in NV are considered canon or not by Bethesda? I hope they are, since the story and dialogues should be great.

Vault Boy is the Vault-Tec mascot so if he didn't show up on the Vault-Tec product I'd be really surprised.

I'm pretty sure, that the happenings in NV will be added as canon. It would be kinda weird, a game like this, assisted by Beth wouldn't be.

I say it's not very probable. I don't think they would change something that big. Vault-boy is an important mark of Fallout... but, since we're now in Vegas, it actually could be. Also, a fresh body in the cemetery could point to a mafia-type organisation in Vegas.

I doubt it given that the Vault Boy is in the New Vegas section of the official site:

http://fallout.gamesas.com/eng/games/fnv-overview.html

Otherwise, it would be the cowboy. Also, I doubt that Bethesda would use a character that they don't own for that:

Yeah, i was just thinking for about 20 seconds, trying to think of that sign in Vegas. So then i had to go to Google get pics"N"stuff.

So that's why it LOOKED like he posted before me. he just thought of the sign faster than me.

i really don't know what to think.
the teaser is great, but i can't really speculate.
i think it would be awesome if we played as someone who wasn't a vault dweller, though.

i hadn't noticed the A7. i noticed the 7 on the helmet and thought "wooooohooooo vault 7" lol but now i have no clue. either way, i'm really stoked about this game. cannot freakin' wait.

The guy in the teaser is most likely an NCR ranger or soldier.

Agree, the teaser pretty much follows the structure of the F3 one. But he still seems to wear a Pipboy. Yes, it could be stolen, found, bought, but a teaser trailer wouln't imply this so directly from the start.

And that follows previous FO openings as well.

The founders of the NCR originally came from Vault 15, and other NCR members are from various vaults too. Why wouldn't at least some of their armed forces use Pip-Boys?
