If Obsidian Developed Skyrim...

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 1:08 am

Mods, or modifications, are a tool that enables a user to create a more personal experience.

Know what mods are, thanks.

Developers create a game, and people mod it to make it more suited for them. You should not, in any way, force your own vision of a game onto a developer. Your opinion, vision, or ideas, are moot when compared to the the audience as a whole. You're not an individual, you're part of a collective audience that a developer seeks to cater to.

Because expecting Stamina to function like Magicka in regards to combat ability cost is pushing my vision? Um... ok?

So please go be an entitled child somewhere else.

Lol, ok.

Gaming the system is present in every Bethesda game

If you are alluding to the fact that in every game the player can break the game through the use of the game's own vanilla mechanics, yes it is present, and it's terrible.

This is not entirely true.

I was meaning that I cannot download a mod for my 360. And if I can I can potentially get in trouble for it.

Mods don't help console players.

Also, mods aren't needed if the professionals do it right the first time.

I am writing normal. So far no spelling or grammar errors, and I'm fairly sure it's still in English.

Your problem, not mine.

Happy? Legible enough for you?

A PM would have been better since you haven't touched on my "[censored]" as you put it in the first place.

more dialog and quests enter-conecting and stuff like that i would imagine, but FO NV was still a Bethesda creation all Obsidian did was a pretty amazing "mod" if you think about it

For balancing issues there is the ability to do it "right" for everyone.

Not always true.

You’ll always hit snags called personal opinions. Some people don’t understand why beating your summoned Dremora shouldn’t improve your 1handed skill and so on. In FO:NV I loved the mods where pretty much a single bullet would almost take you out of the game yet some saw that as balance breaking since sneaking became overpowered and a requirement.

i think people are treating obsidian a little unfair. for all the lore nuts TES has, i hope y'all realize it was bethesda that butchered fallout lore and then trampled on fallout tradition by adding broken steel extending gameplay past the end. fallout (fallout 3 was not the first fallout game...hence the '3') always ended. always had ending slides to give you a wrap up of what happened to the world. just imagine if beth gave a TES game an 'ending'. same deal.

obsidian had a paltry 18 months to make FNV. what they did accomplish in that time i find remarkable. they used an aging, extremely flawed engine, with no experience on that engine. they were told it had to ship. yes, the bugs were inexcusable, but understandable. obsidian prioritized story and other elements over exploration. it would be interesting to see what they could have done if they were given skyrim's dev time.

obsidian kept true to fallout lore and to the spirit of fallout games (i'm only including FO1 and FO2 in this statement). there is no reason to think obsidian would not keep true to TES lore and gameplay. most of those who like fo3 over fnv, i find have not played the originals.

bethesda makes great picture books, obsidian made a great novel with FNV. i'll take a great novel over a great picture book any day of the year.

I was going to post then this guy comes along and steals my thunder.

Didn't Black Isle make the original Fall out?

Fair enough, because you are correct, there are those people out there who don't understand that beating your horse over and over shouldn't give you exp.

maybe bethesda should let Obsidian make all quest lines for the expansion :D

it could be a nice collabration but it will be hard to keep the project organized :P

It wouldn't really work. Only Bethesda can do Elder Scrolls the right way.

It would freeze my PS3 frequently, I care not to think about other differences and will not be purchasing another obsidian game in my life.

Bethesda has much much more developers and resources to develop Skyrim. If Obsidian were to

1. attempt to rework/optimize the game engine which they have never done before to the same level as today's
2. create a game which they have to read up the lore from scotch
3. start working only after the last NV DLC
4. with just 20% of the manpower

My estimation would be roughly the next 11.11.11

But why do you care?

It's a one player game that people can play whatever way they want without affecting anyone else.

If someone wants to up their smithing skill by making 100 iron daggers (and then enchant them to bump up the enchanting skill) how does it hurt anyone else?
