Operative Discussion 2

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:30 am

Operative is one of the four classes in Brink. Hack enemy defenses and sentry guns, provide battlefield intelligence, and sneak behind enemy lines.

Operatives can:

Hack enemy defenses, comms, and sentry guns.

Spot enemy mines

Disguise as the enemy. You take on your victims clothes and physique.
(more info on disguises) - the intention is that unless you're the person who is actually the victim of a disguise, there's no in game indication at all that the disguised guy is not who he seems. So you really have to rely on watching his behavior.
you cannot be in the field of view of anyone else in order to take a disguise.
you cannot fire any weapons, or you lose your disguise.

Interrogating enemies that will gain access to a 'radar' ability, which will display enemy players for a duration on your map, it lasts for 10 seconds (liable to change).

Not able to buff teammates

Can see enemy operatives (we are not sure exactly how this works)

Can firewall Command Posts to make it harder to hack

Have sticky grenades and possibly smoke grenades.

Have an ability to use a homing device and track enemies.

Can backstab enemy for supposed OHK.

What do think the operative should have? (abilities, items etc)

same, but i dont think thats gonna sstop people from playing it, just because its hard. People are gonna play the way they wanna play, and if they wanna be noobs then their gonna go right ahead and be noobs. i just hope that SD has made the game so that these noobs wont ruin it for everyone else.

If what they say is right then they shouldn't, and if what they say is true then those noobs will try and set up abilities and gear to go about and backstab enabling them to support the team.
If successful then what I would see happening is those once noobs will go about backstabbing and picking up on radar giving support to the team. The team can then see who is around what corner and take the appropriate actions to either avoid or kill them.

Indeed if they go around backstabbing medics. Sounds useful.

Can backstab enemy for supposed OHK.

Lets hope it stays "supposed" and turns out to actually be just a bonus to damage. Melees are quick enough in most games that you could shoot afterward to finish them off.

wich is exactly why anyone not fit for stealth likes it.
it gives them an edge, wich unbalances the game.

i hope it either isn't an ohk, has a terrible cooldown, or the other classes get an ability wich would give them an edge in other situations

i normally [censored] about this all the time. if it is an ability, it should be an ohk. there will be much more useful abilities to choose from. if you can only bring 3 into battle, and you bring the backstab, that only gives you 2 other available perks. backstabbing wont be as simple as tf2. you cant just cloak and wait for someone to turn the corner. some people might think the backstab is overpowered but its not gamebreaking

medics heal, engineers have turrets, and soldiers have high defense i think

and operatives can interrogate, backstab, disguise themselves

also soldiers dont get a high defense, just grenades

I'm going to move away form the backstab and bring up another ability. THe smoke screen.

Now What I have heard it is suppose to block pathways, this could be like a tear gas. Now I think there could be an ability that cancels out the effects of smokescreen, like a general ability.

Any one have thoughts on this matter?

Doubt the turrets will help. You'll get backstabbed and your turret will get hacked.

THe smoke screen grenade? Yes i Think so.

Oh a god combo would be for a enginer to throw down a mine behind a smoke filled hallway. THen when the smoke is gone and people waiting for it to clear rush in, BOOM!

I don't know the details on smoke grenades, but there's a good chance the Soldier will have, since he can specialize in grenades.

1. How the heck did you beat me to the punch with this? You must have started this thread before the first one got locked, since I made mine literally less than five minutes after the locking of the first thread. Weird. But whatever.

2. What about the ability to hack into and then control enemy turrets? Does that just mean that the turrets work for your team for a while, or do you actually get to be the turret, so to speak?

From what I've heard, you actually have control over it and aim it.

How so? If he is controlling the turret, he's vulnerable to attacks. You could also just blow up the turret.

Hacking and controlling a turret is a purchasable skill, NOT a standard, default ability, so it's not like everyone will be doing it.
