PCPS3 Release Date Thread part 18

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 9:16 am

Yes, of course I realize there is a major difference between my little remodeling business and the goliath that is Bethesda. And I understand that certain people may not be allowed to say more than they have at this point. BUT, the buck stops somewhere and the person making the final decision on whether to make a simple announcement is wrong not to do so in my opinion. I really don't think people would care as much or even be surprised if the date is pushed back. It's just the way it is currently being handled that really irritates me.

Oh right, gotcha, I misunderstood you in that case, sorry. :)

Exclusive: 1.not admitting of something else 2.limited to the object or objects designated 3.shutting out all others from a part or share

Take note of the first definition, there is your answer to why Beth did not mention a pc/ps3 release when they announced the 360 one.

So, are we running on Soon? in Valve Time or human time? Because I don't want to play Dawnguard when I'm a 50 year old man stroking my beard while meditating on a mountain.

I guess your feeling was wrong so far. This is why you should be careful in what you say.

I just can't wait to see the flaming and changes to everyone's arguments should release be delayed for a while

First off - we don't mind waiting - just want some communication

If delayed

Next argument and complaint - omg!! What are they doing? They had 30 days! Bethesda told us thirty days and now we have to wait 60!!!! Omg - they svck and I am gonna rant for 25 more days.
- they lost a customer
**sarcasm***

The reality sets in 'I'm on a pc and Bethesda does not love me the most' - omg!!! - my life is ending!!! Ugghhhhhh!!!
***more sarcasm***

Gonna be crazy on the boards then!

Better get a 360 before next dlc

I wonder if in the end this exclusivity deal with Microsoft will have been worth it to Bethesda, with all the customer backlash and all. I'm sure poeple who say they won't, will still buy Dawnguard when it releases.

The whole thing just saddens me though. The Elder Scrolls series WAS a PC franchise, but now they cater to M$ Xbox. I really don't understand why M$ would want Bethesda to keep the DLC away from PC players. I can kind of understand PS3 because it's in direct competition with Xbox, but PC/Stream users are really in another category than consoles.

I just hope Bethesda will not do this with future games. It really does create unhappy customers for no real reason.

Microsoft is trying to force people to bye x-box... by saying if you want this content you have toget an xbox... i will stop supporting any company that caters to that bs. I do not like the xbox. i had one for about 3 months before i traded it in for ps3 games. i will keep my ps3 and keep supporting sony.

I show my displeasure with gaming developers/publishers when I buy used games. My understanding is they don't get a cent from the sale?

What is the "1.7 update" was the news we should have received? And there is nothing else to be told?

Yes, you are correct. But in some jurisdictions, doing so is illegal.
The most permissive is the EU:
"An author of software cannot oppose the resale of his 'used' licenses allowing the use of his programs downloaded from the internet. The exclusive right of distribution of a copy of a computer program covered by such a license is exhausted on its first sale. This was decided by the Court of Justice of the European Union in a case of Used Soft GmbH v. Oracle International Corp.."

After reading things over and listening to the various Beth interviews, I more or less understood:
  • Xbox's 30 days exclusive period did not start until all localized versions were released: at that point Dawnguard is officially the finished product Microsoft signed up for. That way the country that gets their localized version last can also say they played it 30 days exclusive.
  • Only then, after 30 days, the distribution of Dawnguard is in Beth's hands. That is when they can start porting and adjust the game for PC and for PS3. It may take some work as it must be tested to be reasonably foolproof with mods.
  • Beth hasn't given an estimated date because either the 30 days aren't officially up (see above reason about localized versions), or they aren't sure yet on how much work Dawnguard's port to PC and PS3 will be and don't want to move a release date.
Again, that's how I understood the whole picture myself. I may be way off, but it's often a case of the product not being considered finished and exclusive until the whole world can access it. Those 'suits' high up always are tricky like that. :( That could mean fall 2012... but again, that's just how I see it right now after some loose research.

isnt microsoft the one who dicides where it is released and when in that case microsoft can keep DG completly exclusive for a long time they just have to wait with releasing it in one country that doesnt sell a lot of DLC anyway.
and knowing microsoft they would do that so i hope one of us is wrong.

The version for major European nations (France, etc) -> released 10 day later.
The version for major Asian countries (Japan, etc) -> release still pending...
The exclusive 30 days did not even started yet.

no miracle they release the Asia version last. Xbox its not exactly populair it those countries.
