I absolutely understand what you are saying OP. I have posted threads about this myself. There is too much overt negativism going on, or rather, too much frustration that is taken to the extreme of “bashing,” name calling, accusations, and outright spiteful vindictiveness.
However, there is also something to be said for constructive criticism. Also, posting say that you have experienced certain bugs or crashes after a certain patch in a thread specifically for that purpose is not exactly “spirit crushing negativism.”
I understand the notion “if you have nothing good to say don’t say anything at all,” but if you were to do a serious search of the forums you would see that I am positive more often than negative, and the negative is never meant as Bethesda bashing. I think they’re the greatest video game company on Earth!
I also think there is more going on culturally here than anyone is prepared to point out. Video gaming has become something of a cultural phenomenon, and a way of life has sprung up of our technology. A new form of perpetual revisionism and minimalist self-improvement could be a profound adaptation to our modern environment.
But not everyone gets to experience that. Many have that way of life ripped from them by forced labor and contextual debt slavery. Still others can’t afford to participate at all. Those who are fortunate enough face all the same prejudice and cannibalism from their peers and communities as outcasts and unique minds have always faced through out our history, with varying degrees up to and including physical violence and the theft/destruction of their property./
Many can’t afford to defend themselves or do anything about it. They rely on games like this as a sign of progress, or an escape, of hope that people will eventually change and embrace an era of technological abundance that would allow them to simply be what they are, to have shelter, basic needs, and be left alone, for the most part, to live their live and produce their art.
All the little hang-ups along the way come to the surface as frustration seemingly disproportional to the context but it is because of this that so much else is perceived to be at stake. It is the constant reminder, much like circumcision, of all that is lost or suffered seemingly without end.
People who are concerned about our future, who care about this world and the people in it, and who are affected by all the anger, the hatred, violence, jealousy, are simply termed “emo” so they’re easier to marginalize by a defeated populace who no longer has any faith in themselves, so they attempt to drag other’s down with them.
The misery is toxic, and contagious, and until a real cure emerges, it will continue to infect everything it touches. Good people can only suffer so much futility before they have no choice but to reach out for some connection, to vent their frustrations to stay sane.
One can only hope a company like Bethesda realizes this and doesn’t take it too seriously. Or do, but not in a way they take offense.
I’ve heard it argued that it has never been this good, that it was worse in the past and it is always better than somewhere else. People say things like that, then nothing ever changes. But I would argue that having lived to KNOW a change, a solution, then have that denied, is WORSE than never having known at all.
Greed is suffocating our culture to death, no matter what country you hail from. A little misplaced negativism is hardly the greatest threat we face. Take up the armor of UNDERSTANDING and be aware of where it comes from!
Then, you are in a better position to help, or show compassion. At least, by not having to write off the suffering in order to survive yourselves!
That never lasts.
