Do you know how frustrating it is to point out problems months in advance only to see nothing fixed? (re the terrible UI design)

Do you know how frustrating it is to shell out $60 in an economy like this to get a game that is not even finished?

Do you know how frustrating it is to play in a game world and not be able to do basic things that exist in that game world because the poor developers did not bother putting them in?

Fine. I'll feel sorry for the developers once I get my $60 back or once I get to actually play a finished product.

Edit: don't get me wrong, the game has huge potential. I can't wait to actually see a version that is ready to be released to the public...even if that means modders have to pick up where Beth cannot deliver...
I than 61 year old than I play computer game since 1980's there where game like Hack where you die at first level character because the hacker who make the game have than 50th level dragon attack you. At least Beth doesnot do that to you. In the 1980's computer games have to worked right out of the box without patches since there was no worldwide internet to downloaded patches. Than computer that pull than act like the company that make Wirardry 8 would have went belly up it you have to get than patch to just to be able to play the game.

I am sorry OP but do you expect all of us to simply get down on our knees and praise Bethesda for making this ''perfect'' game you are talking about? Just to make this clear, I think this game is great, it has a great amount of content and replay value but it also clearly lacks in certain area's. Most complaints I have read on these forums are totally valid, especially those concerning the pc version of Skyrim.

Terrible fps, Crashes, overall limited visual experience, terrible User interface (for pc atleast) and perhaps many more technical issues. You can blame this on ATI or Nvidia but Bethesda is no saint in this matter either.

Complaints about gameplay are debatable as everyones personal preferences and opinions differ of course. Some may seem like nagging or nitpicking, but in the end it all comes down to how this game allows or limits you to play and create the character you want.

You are currently in Skyrim heaven, some of us in it's Oblivion.

I did not expect anyone to "get down on their knees", at all. All I was pointing out - is there despite the obvious flaws the game has, and every game has those - there's a way to tell right from wrong. There are circumstances as to why latest games of our generations are suffering from performance/stability issues on PC, that do not exist on Consoles.
That said, it's obvious that Bethesda knew they are developing for cross-platform, and I do expect them to patch things out - but they are working on it. They are not neglecting the community, and they didn't let me down so far. I have every reason to believe they will be patching Crossfire/SLI in. I have full faith they will keep track and fix the crashing errors and FPS drops.
I just want to let them know that the whole package is beautiful. I do not want them to give up the PC crowd, because some do not know how to post a decent complaint. I want them to know there are many of us that appreciate what they have done, what they have achieved, and we are looking forward to fixes - to make this experience even better.

Everyone are entitles to their own opinion - I couldn't claim and wouldn't claim otherwise. But opinions aside - there are technical difficulties PC is putting developers through that consoles do not. And when a company still cares about us PC gamers despite those difficulties - I want them to know they have got my thanks.

Personally I find both posts by the raging haters and the "boot-licking" [censored] equally stupid (especially when it's hard to tell if the former are just trolling and the latter are at your throat for daring to criticize their newest toy even in minor ways).
In my experience, if you want to get a good picture about what a game might offer (both positive or negative) it's best to forget about these two types of people and look at the more level-headed posters.

I think that you have to take a lot of the whining with a pinch of salt. The people who are happy are mainly too busy playing to come on these forums right now, so it tends to be people who either trolling or filled with fleeting nerd rage who are here. I'm sure that the devs know that they have a massive amount of support in the wider fan community.

the UI is buggy, and layout is questionable. the textures are ugly up close, but apparently its a bug.

gameplay wise its the best to date. overall i put it behind morrowind. still an excellent game

If you'd bother to read through the posts I've written here, you would understand that is not what I meant at all.
I do not claim people do not suffer from issues, or that they may dislike the game - not for a single second. All I was saying, is that appreciation along with constructive criticism goes a long way, and may achieve a lot more then simply bash the game/developers.

It is every hard to debug games. One game company have to wait for than player sent then than savegame just before than bug hit the game to look at the state of the game before thje bug hit and after they play one turn of the game before the bug hit to be able to figure out what cause it before they can fix it.

I love Skyrim, it is fun to play and is the most cinematic Elder Scrolls to date, I would say it easily surpasses Morrowind, even in story, it has Dragons and full of Political stuff it isn't stale as-well; it has better atmosphere then all the previous Elder-Scrolls... Shame about some of the bugs but I know Bethesda and I know give them 2 months and most of the major bugs will be sorted.

They were working for years to give console players the best possible experience. If they had given just one year, hell, one MONTH of development time to optimizing this game for the PC, then it would be incredible. If you can manage your way around the numerous technical issues, then it's a great game, yes. But that doesn't change the fact that Bethesda has quite clearly abandoned their PC fan base. The people who got them started, and the only reason they are where they are now. It's pretty pathetic.

Criticism needs to happen or nothing will ever change. They did not release the game in an acceptable state. God knows it's bad enough on DX9, but we were promised DirectX 11 support. And a construction set. Being that these are both PC exclusive elements, if just one of these had been given to us on release date, then that would have been enough to show that they know that we PC gamers still exist. Yes, they're a business. That's all fine and good. But we paid for features we did not get, in a game that barely functions for most people because of the console-centric coding. Overlooking the legal aspect of it, that's just not ethical.

If RAGE hadn't already made it perfectly clear, then Skyrim has: Bethesda is no longer a developer that can be trusted by PC gamers. They are no longer among the Valves or CD Projekts out there.

Woah easy there; it's definitely not the best game to date.

That being said, it is a very good game, even though it's completely console-centric. Personally, I would like to see them patch in a little love for the PC players; the textures aren't that great and the UI, while not as bad as many are making it out to be, is pretty unintuitive for use in the heat of combat. A grid-style inventory is always far superior on PC. Non-degrading weapons also lose a little bit of immersion.

However, with its flaws, it's still imo the best Elder Scrolls game to date.

I'm just interested as to what you think the legal issues are.. after all, you've basically paid for a unilateral set of obligations when you bought the software licence. I'm pretty sure they don't have any substantial obligation to ensure that the game works on your particular PC, provided the software does actually work. Plus, 'barely functions for most people' is a huge exaggeration.

I am a long-time fan of the Gothic series (except for the disgrace that was Arcania)... And up till very recently an Elder Scrolls "hater".

I always found Morrowind and Oblivion (never played Daggerfall and the first game) to be good games in general but massively overrated... And I could never get into them. Whilst the Gothic games were very far from perfect, they struck a chord in me that kept me more immersed than any other game, whereas I could never look past the shortcomings of TES. I honestly tried to enjoy them, I thought "Bethesda has put so much effort behind these games, there is depth to be had, I want to enjoy them"... But it never worked. I always got bored and annoyed a few hours into the game.

I am delighted to say that... I LOVE THIS GAME! Sure, it has its imperfections and flaws. But for the first time in years, I want to go home as quickly as possible to play a computer game. For the first time in years I actually contemplated calling in sick simply to stay home and play (and whilst I didn't do that, I was tempted damn it!). I haven't played much - I've only managed to clock in a few hours so far - but I had already quit in previous TES games by this time, whereas now I even feel inspired enough to write a "first impressions" preview of my own.

Well done Bethesda... Well done :foodndrink:

People are always going to complain, even if somethings literally perfect. I wish everyone could give positive constructive criticism but that goes against our nature lol...

agreed!! yep some people just love to argue and those kind of people (a lot on these forums btw) will argue that a square is circle!
some real negative nancys on here, i have now played over 24 hrs on skyrim and imho its easily one of the best single player games i have played to date, its amazing simple as that! and apart from a floating helm and a mammoth which seemed to fly off 200ft into the air, i have come across no bugs/freezing/lock ups or any other problems! running smooth as ice :)

gotta say though, finished gears of war 3, uncharted 3 and batman AC recently and even these had a few little bugs and glitches in them, hey no game is perfect!!

this is why i think bethesda should stop making games for everyone... i love morrowind, even though its [censored] buggy as hell. i love oblivion even though its buggy as hell. haters gonna hate and thats the end of it... please op, dont forget that mentally challenged people can have computers these days, in fact the internet is all many of them do. its the elder scrolls people, i know you dont want to but your gonna have to overlook some faults to see that your playing the biggest game youll ever play.
yeah im playing on sdtv and i cant see any of the things it writes in the corner of the screen, but i could litterally give a [censored]. ide spend 150 dollars on a buggy skyrim long before i spend a penny on uncharted or nine tenths of the borring as [censored] climb on walls polished games without these faults.
moreover, your posting this on a forum board op... come on. the only reason forums exist is so people can complain. hell im doing it right now and so are you. if you want to feel good on the internet youll need to look elsewhere.

that being said, glitches can svck, especially when you have to start over. but still, bethesda makes it real easy for me to remember my top five video games of all time. (even though they didnt make baseball stars).

I'm a big Morrowind > Oblivion fan, and I can honestly say: Skyrim out does my Morrowind nostalgia. Sure there may be a little big of quirks with the game(modern UI, somewhat clunky things here and there, etc) and by all means voice your opinion about them. Just do it in a reasonable manner. But to say "Skyrim is unfinished and doesn't deserve the $60 I spent on it" is a bit ridiculous. The ones saying that, probably already had a negative opinion about the game before it released I have not come across ANY game breaking bugs/problems with the game. Every hour I've spent has been entertaining to say the least.

There was only one somewhat major bug/problem I had. More of an annoyance really. I have to play the game on low settings because of my laptop, and I noticed I wasn't able to see any FX(webs, spells, smoke and fog) and I couldn't find which setting it was that controlled that, so I googled my problem, and found a user-made patch that fixed everything. Seemed to bump my fps up enough that I could play on medium settings. What a difference that made.

Two more slight annoyances I had(nothing game breaking just annoying):
You can't move objects the same way that you can from Oblivion. IIRC, in Oblivion you could pick an object up by any part of it and move it around(toe of a boot, top of a potion, top of a staff, etc) In Skyrim it seems that you can only pick it up by the middle of the object, which makes it very difficult to place things. Also I'm not quit content with having to hold E to move an object, Basically I wish I could separate the "take" and "move around" buttons. I assume they were combined because there's a separate button for shouts, and on the 360 there wasn't enough buttons(I haven't actually checked if you could separate the two, I'll check when I play again, but I only assume you can't)

The other one was about the lock picking minigame. I noticed with a controller you can slowly turn the lock. I use mouse and keyboard, and it's rather clumsy pressing A or D to turn the lock. Not to mention frustrating due to how many picks you break because there's so little control. It would help the the lock turned slower(Something that can be modded later)

Other than that nothing more constructive I can say. Everything else I've experienced was good. After 22 hours no sign of any game breaking bugs. I would guess the major reason you see threads more negative threads about the game is because it's often hard to see the good through the bad. It's rare that people post when they enjoy something. But when something is slightly amiss they rage and post it immediately to the forums, so you get a bunch of bashers on the forums and all the people that actually enjoy the game are too busy playing it to post negative things about it. Just my 2 cents.

I love Skyrim. It combines the depth and uniqueness of Morrowind with the beauty of Oblivion, and out does them both. It is a fantastic game.

That being said, bashing the game may actually help the devs to make the next one better, or at least inspire new ideas. No game is beyond improvement.

The only problem I have with an otherwise great game is that many of the textures when set to ultra in the PC version are not what you would expect and remain low quality.

Although I'm not bashing Bethesda for this they do need to address it as there is clearly an issue that lowers the standards set by the rest of the game.

Well said OP its true, you have to remember though, the better something is the more people want to bring it down its human nature! It is as though it makes those people feel better about themselves even if they are feeling the exact opposite of what they are writing!

Skyrim is nothing short of a masterpiece in many respects, I have been playing TES since Arena on Floppy Disks and although I have loved each game to bits since, Skyrim is the best! The game is so damn addictive, good bye personal life!

Well said OP, well said! Glad to see a positive thread, you don't wanna be near the Steam forums, so much negativity and it's really annoying.. People have way too high expectations when it comes to games nowadays.. Especially graphics.. sheesh, everyone should know by now, gameplay > graphics when it comes to Elder Scrolls.

Besides Skyrim's graphics are beautiful, hell even Oblivion looked good to be honest.

So yeah, for me, this game definitely deserves the "Game of the Year" title!

Complaints about gameplay are debatable as everyones personal preferences and opinions differ of course. Some may seem like nagging or nitpicking, but in the end it all comes down to how this game allows or limits you to play and create the character you want.

That is one of the main problems, of course - you cannot create the character you want with Skyrim, as with other TES games (and FO3 too). This is a problem with most Western games, though, despite their marketing claims to the contrary. Specifically, they claim you can make whatever character you want and then fail to allow artistic options to do so, thus undermining any sense of empathy and immersion for players who do not share their very specific (and limited) tastes in art. The whole problem boils down to a focus on "realistic" which is really silly considering (1) reality is subjective and (2) the game is a fictional world and finally (3) their marketing claims state exactly the opposite (i.e., they claim you can make any character you want, not only "realistic" characters according to their artistic tastes).

Let me quote their own marketing bullet point:

Play any type of character you can imagine, and do whatever you want

Well, I cannot do so, as usual with Beth's games despite their many other excellent qualities. The only reason I have invested thousands of hours in their games is due to East Asian modders, particularly artists. Also, some Western modders, of course, but the character aesthetic fixes are almost entirely due to East Asian modders like Ren. Let's also keep in mind that Beth has known this since Morrowind, but still refuses to do anything about it. They even see forum members with East Asian art avatars, so they don't even need to consider downloads from TESNexus or elsewhere.

Without doubt Skyrim out classes other Adventure/RPGs on a level few could have dreamt of even 5 years ago. Sure there are bells and whistles and the odd glitch and so on, but the perfect game has yet to be produced. Be fair now. In a game of this size it would be nothing short of a miracle if everything was utterly free from the odd glitch etc. Stand at the top of a mountain and look around you. What you are seeing blows the mind. From the huge luminescent moon to the snowstorm swirling below. Skyrim is beautiful to look at, engaging from the start, fun to play. I am a 60year old woman who has played Elder Scrolls games since their first inception. Each was superb in its own right (yes even with the glitches and stuff) Skyrim is a triumph. As an 'old fogie' I want to congratulate Bethesda on producing something truly special, spectacular and all engrossing.

PS. Any other old fogies out there??

I might be old physically, but spiritually I'm an eternal adolescent girl. :P

Why would I not bash Bethesda/Skyrim for the things I think are wrong?

There are plenty of things that I do not like (which you might disagree on) and as long as I keep my criticism constructive (i.e. for voicing my interest on an issue that might be addressed by Bethesda or the community through a mod) then there is no reason why I shouldn't.
