Personally, I'm not too interested in Long Haul, as it only benefits Fast Travel, and I rarely use that. Pack Rat, on the other hand, will be quite useful for hardcoe Mode due to ammo weight--assuming it considers the 'per bullet' weight of ammo, all your ammo weight will be cut in half, so you can carry twice as much of it! Except perhaps Explosives, if missles or Mini-Nukes weigh more than 2 pounds.

The only problem is the Barter requirement--I've never put points into Barter for any of my FO3 characters. Oh well, when I get the game I'll look at all the perks in the manual, and plan my character build based on which ones I might want to take.

I like Jury Rigging and Shotgun Surgeon too. Can't wait for this game!!!!!!

HAHAH had to look that one up...and yes, yes it does! Pack rat has always been in my builds if available. F:NV has a very interesting twist that will serve hardcoe players well. I cannot wait!

Im more likely to use packrat and strong back frankly then long haul but again I can see it realy helping some people who like to either loot like mad or who want to bring alot of toys to a party. Yes walking is a bit slow but once you fast travel in you can dump your extra supplies in a cache and then run back to it several times during the fight to both restock your nades/mines/food/water and to pile your loot for eventual evac back to your home.

Long Haul isn't that big of a deal. Still will have to crawl at a snail's pace after leaving fast travel and there is more important skills, other than Barter, to be spending points on that early in the game. More practical to pick it up as one of your level 26-30 perks.

Jury Rigging is the best of the perks listed. Can't do much with broken equipment and I still expect the weapons to be excessively fragile like they where in F03. Opening up a wider range of repair options will be vital.

I agree. I rather like the idea of the Jury Rigging perk. The high skill requirement also means that you won't be able to get it very early, again making it more balanced.

Oh, and here's another coloured perk pic: http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/ww316/SimpsonFly/FNVPerkJuryRiggingcolour.jpg

Speaking of which, in the pic it looks like Vault Boy is literally taping an M16 to a hunting rifle.

Pack Rat will work well with HC mode, unless there's ammo and rations that weighs more than 2 in the game, you can pretty much double weighted "survival" items... :)

Not sure if I'll get Long Haul, I may if your thirst/hunger/sleep takes a hit when you fast travel. In FO3 I easily made 2 to 3 round trips to loot an area I just cleaned out and bring the gear back to my house. Much more if I just got through an "encapsulated" DLC like the Pitt or Mothership Zeta.

Jury Rigging is a must since I always max my repair skill. I know in FO3 I had tons of unused lower-tier raider type weaponry that could have used this perk.

Hey with that Laser Commander vault boy image, does this mean we can dual wield? ;)

Since when were Spore Plants confirmed? This game just got annoying in a likeable way!
Also, I find those pictures really, really hilarious.

Maybe you'll find them funnier in colour?

I'm working on more.

You may ask "Simpson, why did you spend your time colouring these perk pics?" My answer: I don't know... Seriously, I have no idea. I guess I'm just bored.

You are my hero.

If I had puppies left I would have send you a box of them.

PS; will 'The Professional' perk also improve your relationship with plants? :-P

Long Haul is entirely a convenience perk. Anything you could carry out in 2/3/4 trips you can carry out in 1. It is keyed off of Barter because not many perks are keyed off of Barter, and those that have been in the past typically just modify sale prices... which is what the Barter skill does. "Logically" it should be based off of END or STR, but there are several perks that use one of those stats as a prerequisite. It's important that we (designers) reward people for investing in different skills. Creating perks with high skill prerequisites is one way to do that.

Equally?

Clearly everyone has different opinions on the value of any given perk, but if one skill unlocks a dozen perks and another skill unlocks zero, there are obviously significant secondary options available for the former and not the latter.

I think getting a pack brahmin would have been a lovely barter based perk. Or possibly a perk that increased the economy in the game with more traders or larger trader inventories/cash reserves. But that's just me........ :twirl:

Long haul is overpowered.

You can fast travel. That doesn't mean that you can sprint through the wasteland as if you were carrying nothing.

I can agree with that, but I remember (for example) the option [in FO2] to install a brain in the brain bot. The PC's ability determined the results, and better ability gave access to a better NPC.

One could [sensibly] ask, "who puts 150% into science?", but the ones who do are the ones to get that result. I liked this in the series.

I can understand designing for an "average play through" so that most will get most of what's in the game, but this series always did have rewards for the extremist.

(Some skills just do provide generally more, while others are just by nature, specialized. If someone chose to specialize, getting a few very interesting options instead of many average ones, still seems balanced to me.)
I will wait and see. I don't doubt that the game has been tested for balance and to work smoothly. :tops:

**Nice interview btw (PlanetFallout)

Yeah, if you're deep in enemy territory with no quick exit to surface in sight, trying to haul all that loot out is still going to be a pain in the ass.

Most people will still end up lightening their load rather than opting to spend a snail's pace eternity trying to get back outside.

Pretty new, have a question.

If you look at Jury Rigging, this is the commentary;

Tess Treadwell: If you pick up jury rigging, you're already halfway to [the game's highest] level, and the repair skill is obviously important to you because you've almost maxed it out. So this skill will reward you for this by making the repair skill even more useful.

Simple toe-finger math puts the games' max level at 28? Is this confirmed anywhere else?

The max level is 30, getting perks once every 2 levels, it'd be hard to say if 14 or 16 is "half" way because they can't use 15 along with perks.

Oh, now I c. Thanks. I guess I just didn't look hard enough.

I didn't really find alot of perks that interested me. Rad boy looked ludicrously fun, but beyond that? Cowboy I guess? Not really a fan of shotguns or energy weapons, and I tend to pack light... Eh.
