Doom 4 Speculation Thread

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 9:52 pm

If they came out with a new DOOM 4, The best improvment would be the secrets to find. I was quite disappointed in Doom 3 and their lame attempt at this with the lockers and codes, very boring. Half the fun of playing the DOOM games was finding all the secrets in each area.

I liked the lockers and codes and such but agree they need to bring back the old style of secrets. They certainly could have both and make it more fun to explore and find stuff that is hidden better than some armor shards under a dark set of steps. ;)

I see your point and certainly they could have both. It was just a little boring to me about the lockers. It was IMO handing it to me on a silver platter instead of me having to look around and work for the goodies...... :goodjob: But as I said both would be ok by me.

I want Doom 4 to really go back to it's roots. I want the great portraits of hell, really freaky looking demons, great level designs, biggest gun = best gun, etc. I can't wait to see what id has in store.

my list!!

1. super shotgun!!! ultimate weapon of all times!!!
2. complex live levels - that means that there is many things going on on the levels, like in Doom 3, i loved to watch how all this mechanisms works.
3. no realism!!! i dont wanna shoot imps from m16 or something like that!!!
4. health bar and medikits, maybe not on the floor, but on walls and no health regen!!!
5. nightmare with unlimited monsters on respawn!!!

Hm... I've been thinking, and I hope most of you guys agree, but I will be angry as hell if Doom4 turns to using the super-complex weaponry and use of military weapons, like most FPS games now.

I HATE having to look through a whole lot of weapons just to carry two or three, and I hate the endless list of military weapons. One of the things I LOVED about Doom was the basic weapons, that ALL kicked ass. We didn't have to remember any stupid weapons with fancy model names. We just knew them as the shotgun, or the chaingun, even in Doom3 the machinegun was just the "machinegun." I will be disappointed if Doom4 throws in alot of random weapons and names.

I think the UAC is just to badass to depend on assault rifles and fancy guns. They have the BFG. So they can relax, and use shotguns and chainsaws.

I like them all equally ultimate doom, doom 2, final doom, doom 64, doom 3, doom 3 r.o.e, custom doom levels, however doom 2 was probably the most fun one to play over the rest. Doom 3 was great too however it lacked the massive hordes of demons that spawn in every room that the older games had. Doom 3 does has its good things as well such as its monsters and horror-survival style elements (crazy tentacle soldier that tends to sneak up on you). Hopefully doom 4 will have elements from both the old doom games, the newer doom 3 and especially the cyberdemon.

And btw different demons should be fighting each other like in the older doom games, I was really sad that this alternate fun method of demon killing was taken out in doom 3.

I agree. With the vehicle combat and how the desert looked in the trailer, it simply looked like a polished Borderlands.
Oh, and Doom 4 is supposed to have better graphics, just at a lower framerate (30 frames per second, which is more than enough).

@Yasgur- OH my gosh, I cannot agree with you more! That was so annoying that I couldn't freaking attach my flashlight to my weapon in Doom 3! I don't care if they include attachments like an M203 grenade launcher, and I have to sacrifice that for the flashlight. Just as long as it attaches to my weapons.

Doom 4 -tape and a flashlight

My list of hopes and possibilities:

- Basic weapon set: Pistol, Shotgun, Super Shotgun, Rifle, Chaingun, Rocker Launcher, Plasma Rifle, BFG, Chainsaw.

- Melee combat button, Halo style. Possibly link in an execution move for some extra brutality. (I know a rifle butt won't kill a pinky, but it'd probably mess up an Imp's face.)

- Good enemy AI with the ability to work as a team.

- Use the original monster types and skins with a fresh coat of 3D paint. Include Cherubs, Maggots and some other Doom 3 enemies as well.

- Death animations! Make a few for each enemy hit by each weapon. Gibs, dismemberment, incineration...

- Remove random monster closets and keep the teleporting demons. That worked well when it wasn't being used for jump scares. Imagine seeing an enemy army being reinforced via red clouds of death.

- Allied NPCs, both as exposition fairies and competent squadmates.

I want ambient music like in Quake 1.
Different demons and monsters that are really scary
Oppresive ambience, darkness
Mazes, puzzles (Maybe puzzles you have to quickly do or you'll die)
New weapons
Really gore and bloody please
Maybe some kind of free world like Prey 2?
