..... The reason for not testing with mods and other third party software is to ensure that one is testing the game, not the additives.

True, and I'm glad that there are people testing the patch with vanilla. BUT it's equally true that people need to have info on what mods are causing definite CTDs (etc) so that they know what, specifically to look at and what author threads to check for updates.

That will also help defuse some of the undeserved grief being thrown at the patch developers.

Yes, but those should be reported in their threads on the modding boards.

And they are.

But don't you see that it's just as important to be able to say here "Hey, if you're using (insert mod name) with the new patch, it WILL cause CTDs which have nothing to do with Beth."?

I'm getting CTDs after 1.4 too. No crashes at all before installing the patch.

I'm running completely vanilla Skyrim. No mods, no 3rd party software. Only .ini tweaks (after regenerating them).

Crashes happen randomly, but usually within 20 mins or so of playing, sometimes sooner. They happen at random places. Sometimes when entering a door, sometimes when just running around.

System specs:
Windows 7 x64
i7 920 @ 4.2GHz
6GB DDR3
2 x nVidia 460 SLi (295.51 beta)
Crucial C300 SSD

Are you on the nvidia 295.51 drivers? Try rolling back. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1341469-error-51/ It may fix your BSOD/instability issues as well.

Oh no! You installed steam and skyrim in the Program Files folder... I heartily recommend you uninstall both steam and skyrim, and restart the install, selecting something like "C:\Games" as the install directory for steam. You will then be rid of all UAC (User Account Control) problems! Don't worry about your saves, they're elsewhere.

If you're getting UAC problems with Steam installed in Program Files, you screwed something up. It works just fine on every PC I own, all Windows 7 x64 with both Steam and Skyrim installed entirely in their default forms.

My new problem with 1.4 is that it does not seem to be restraining the mouse to within the Skyrim window anymore. I have multiple monitors, so this means if I turn left more than about 90 degrees I end up with the mouse cursor showing up on the second monitor. Click the mouse to do anything and Windows decides that I'm clicking on whatever's on that second monitor and backgrounds the game.

Just FYI, the reason is because Program Files is protected by UAC. Programs cannot modify data in there without administrative privileges. Older windows games sometimes have savegames there, which is bad on the developer.

The reason it's bad for a game like Skyrim to be installed to Program Files is because certain launchers and script mods and such may not be able to work properly. Administrative privileges should do the trick, however.

I dont know if anyone else is having this problem but since 1.4 the courier that is supposed to bring you the dark brotherhood "Mysterious note" never arrives in my game. Waited in the same spot for an in-game week and got nothing :(.

Ok finally got the game running (I think it was something to do with me unpacking all of the music files from the .bsa thing and just leaving them in the Data files in their own new folder?) but now all of my effects (fire, clouds, water depth) are invisable again. Previously ENB fixed that for me but I thought the no effecs thing was fixed in 1.3? If so I don't think I have 1.4 now, so how do I re-download it?

Sorry to be a bother btw

Since the official patch I've been running into infinite loading screens and ingame freezes (screen just freezes, no CTD or Skyrim not responding message) often, I have to use the task manager to cancel the program to get out of them. The game was running really well with the previous official patch (non-beta).

I thought my same issues were gone after I installed the latest SKSE which fixes crashes. The game ran beautiful again for a whole day. Now when I try and load any of those saves I get infinite loading screen. I'm shelving Skyrim, so sick of these issues. Maybe it's something I did, but it's been working fine up until this patch. btw, still get infinite loading screens with vanilla Skyrim now (no SKSE or SkyUI)

Man I just got lucky. Figured out what was causing the infinite loading screens listed in my post above. If this line is in anyone's Skyrim.ini and they are having infinite loading screens, crashes, or weird texture issues then delete it:

[MapMenu]
uLockedObjectMapLOD=8

Can't believe that little line was causing all these issuesl. Thing is it never caused issues with Skyrim v1.3. It obviously really messes with the latest version. Again, if you have this line in your Skyrim.ini, delete it and that should fix your issues. Looks like Skyrim is going to have to wait a bit to get put on my shelf for good

FML. upgrading to 295.51 stopped my BSOD, and now it wont work with steam.

downgrading to 290.53 brings the BSOD back but steam works.

As a note to the above, you should always try deleting your INI's if you have tweaked them and let the game make new ones. Archive if them if you want to use the tweaks again, but move them over one at a time, testing the game with each one or group.

I saw a wiki kind of page earlier today with a list of programs that gives steam fits. Among all the AV programs were some Nvidia Applets. I don't think any of them are the main console for the Nvidia cards, but go into MSCONFIG and disable any Nvidia Programs that are not the main console and reboot the machine. Try the game again. Also, reverify your game files, and try deleting the config files in My Games/Skyrim and let the game make new ones

I grow tired of spending more time trying to fix Bethesda games than I do actually playing them.
This latest patch has been giving me full system freezes,...can't alt-tab or even ctrl alt del out of them. Only option is to hard boot the system which just isn't worth it.
Never again will i buy a Bethesda game at launch. I've finally learned my lesson and will svck it up and start waiting for the GOTY editions of future Bethesda titles.
Games are supposed to be fun (in theory), not collosal headaches.

I just spent my entire day trying to figure out why I have jittering in places like the Thaumaturgist's Hut in Morthal (alchemy store).

I cannot look around without the jittering macrostutter. Something in there is bugged since the 1.4 patch. Because it doesn't do it when I swap in the old 1.37 .exe.

I have it in all other stores too now, but this is the worst that I've seen. I am pretty frustrated.

Anyone else?

Please don't give me tips, I'm working on it. I just want to know if anyone else is having the problem.

I noticed some bad stuttering in a ruin where I had lost Lydia to some swinging blades. She usually gets through sooner or later. I put it down to being chopped up. I ended up reloading and all was fine with Lydia present in the same section. It seems to be certain scripts that are probably looping or otherwise acting up. I don't think it is graphics related.
