Unofficial Patch 1.4 PC Issues Thread

Soon after the Markath blacksmith died I received a letter of inheritence that simply says 'In the name of Jarl' and nothing else - I've never recieved one before (in 260 hours playtime), so I can't say for sure this problem is specific to the new patch, but from other comments I've seen it may be.

The letter contents were displayed properly in 1.3.10. I verified this during the beta when the option to revert to 1.3.10 was available. I suspect if you look at the name of the letter you're referring to and look it up on uesp.net, you'll find that its format will look something like:

In the name of Jarl

1.4.21 seems to have broken these dynamically assigned values which will assign a name of a person or location as well as a hold name associated with a particular hold in Skyrim. This issue was reported during the beta but like most of the confirmed issues that were reported, nothing was done about it for the 1.4 update.

Still can't get this thing running; no mods, no .ini, verified by steam, still nothing :confused:

I'm running it with a laptop, never ran quickly at all before but now it won't even let me past the Bethesda Logo...

I usually verify the cache and then delete all the launcher generated files in the user folder here (leave the saves folder) before starting a patched game. If you are still having trouble start with no AA/AF or choose the low resolution default.

Just tried both of these to no avail. Found out I can view a detailed error report though, but I can't make sense of it. Any help?

Something weird happened to me
i started to fight a frost dragon(he used Frost Breath)
and after he landed(bout 1/2 of his life)
he somehow changed to ancient dragon(i did no see the actualy change myself)
but i could notice its not the same dragon(diffrent skills used fire breath and the texture was diffrent)

am i the only one who encountred this phenomenon so far?

That looks like greek to me. Maybe send it to the support e-mail. You might want to run windows update and select the settings to check for optional software so it will include non-Microsoft updates.

The new SKSE is out.

What's new:
1.4.10:
- fix GFxValue destruction (this was causing the instability)
- fix GetConfigOption (makes .ini configuration work)


So maybe all those people who expirienced CTDs while using SKSE 1.4.08 should give it a shot, see what happens. Me included.

Here is a screenshot of just how far I was able to shoot dragonbones with the Firebolt spell. You can see it in the distance between the tower and the standing giant.

You guys aren't experiencing this?

I CTDed 5x over 3 hours yesterday. Stabilty I think has gotten a lot worse. Vista 32 bit.

This is not a bug. It may not be a desirable feature, but it's not a bug. It is one possible random dragon encounter. This specific type of dragon encounter is mentioned in the behind the scenes DVD. The reasoning being that the developers didn't want dragons to be merely one more type of creature that randomly attacks. They apparently felt that this gave them more variety.

I have this problem with EVERY dragon encounter that's not a static dragon. I have several saves where I know whenever I quick travel i'll have a dragon spawn after everything loads. I have spent 3+ hours on one save trying to get the dragon that spawns to attack. With enough re-loading, the dragon WILL attack. I'm having trouble seeing this as a feature, since, why would the dragon eventually attack with enough reloading of the save game?? Sounds like a bug to me.

I've even gotten it down to a science. After doing around 3 quests, or a certain amount of time (around an hour and a half) I know i'm gonna encounter a random dragon. So, I make sure to make a save. Then I quick travel to a major city and sure enough, the dragon will spawn....but do nothing. I have the most success with it engaging if I quick travel to Riften. Usually the dragon will attack 1 in 5 times outside of that city.

I guess I could just be really unlucky and getting the random no-attack dragon 90% of the time, but if that's the case, they really should lessen the possiblity of running into this "feature".

Just tested some more, it works with Lightning Bolt and Ice Spike too.

I found that out that trick when i tried it a month ago on my PS3 version. It's quite fun making it fly off a mountain into a unsuspecting village. Now as for Ice Spike and Lighting bolt, i have never tried that before.

After downoading the latest patch I found two bugs that appeared after the patch

1. I come insite thielf guild and I notice EETC map fallen off from shelf., which was on the shelf before the patch no matter how many times i leave and enter the thief guild. Any way to fix this?

2. In Snow Vail Sanctum Traps is set off already. I did the quest 2 times before patch and they were active. I dont really care but still.

Sorry just saw this thread and am reposting;

After updating my client to 1.4 the game no longer starts up. It will boot through to the title screen, but there are no menu options so I cannot get into the game. What are my options to get the game running again, other than a clean install and hoping the patch works the second time around?

Oh okay, I recall lots of videos on youtube at the game's release claiming this was a bug, and I am almost certain I could not do it on 1.2 or 1.3... Dragons in general seem to be dying in a much more floppy manner now, even before their skin burns off.

This happened to me once, alt+tabbing out of the game and back in fixed it for me.

This morning everything was fine with my game, but now I have people sliding or spinning around. The sound clipping is happening in my game also, that one ever since the new update. My drivers are up to date. I killed all mods, just to make sure that they weren't the cause. I deleted the ini files and such, verified, defragmented, and still, the people are sliding.
It's really annoying, especially when you are waiting for a character you need to follow. I made a new character the other day, so I was trying to follow Delphine to Kynesgrove, but she wouldn't put on her gear, just slowly slide. I rested an hour and she got changed, but then she wouldn't move. I ignored her and finished Kynesgrove, went back to Whiterun and the blacksmith chick was spinning in circles. I have people sliding all over the market place. Help!

8gb DDR3 RAM
650gb hd
Q8400 Intel Quad 2 CPU
I haven't had any major problems with Skyrim until now.

Blood on the Ice still screwed up -

pre patch I had started it, got thru 1st three steps (from the bottom up on the Quests page)
1)Question the witness
2)Report to the guard
3)Talk to Jorleif

but then I guess I did step # 6 out of order
6) Talk to Helgird
and now step # 4 and 5 do not work
4) get assistance from Jorleif
5) Examine crime scene

A properly written script would either 1) not show step 6 before step 5 was complete,, or 2) allow for out of order execution

So can I reset the ^&*^)^)#$@$ quest and start over or is it ever going to be fixed properly?

It *does* allow out-of-order execution. That is a very nonlinear quest, and there are several different paths you can take that lead to completion. In fact for the "best" solution you must skip certain steps and use your best judgment instead.You don't need to complete those steps, you can continue onward and keep investigating.

Hi,

I don't really know if this is a bug or not but it seems too strange and could be helpful to those who have graphic problems.

Yesterday, I clicked on "options" in the launcher and then on "default". To my big surprise, the game "chose" the "medium" settings instead of the "high" it always chose when I did that before the patch. I did it again and again and it always chose "medium".
So, what is this about? My graphic card is two years old; it can't be already dying (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650).

Could you try it and tell us what happens? Thank you.

Running Skyrim vanilla, no mods at all and I keep getting "myHoldOwner property expected to be 1 or 2,
instead have:0". It happens every so often when in the open world and I can click it away without issue. It is more annoying than troublesome.

Anyone know how to fix? Doesn't seem to happen with my alternate toon.


I get the same error message, and at the same time the message started appearing
I found out the the house I purchased in Whiterun is no longer recognized by the
game as belonging to me and the steward once again offers to sell it to me.
You might check out any houses you might have purchased earlier to see if there
are any glitches involving them.

I also have the recurrent sound/speech skipping bug since the new patch...but apart from that, everything else seems OK for me so far. Even noticed some marginal improvement in frame rate.

The performance is much better. And even with uGrids 7 there's no more stuttering when loading new cells, which I occasionally had in earlier versions (after fast traveling). That's pretty impressive!

My new problem is it seems there is a bit of texture pop-in. Say for example my GPU is 65% usage and my VRAM is about 60-75% Full. Why would textures pop-in?

Sometimes skin of corpses suddenly changes resolution or something, sometimes the water in Whiterun, just pop in from LOD after a few seconds when I'm walking past. The performance is much better with the loading, but is this related?

You could even say I'm nitpicking here, but hey, it didn't used to do it. It's pretty frequent for me (tested in Whiterun and Whiterun Hold). Anyone else noticing it? (it does this with completely vanilla skyrim). I'm going to try messing with some graphic settings later, so if it goes away.

Also, why is this called "unofficial patch"? This is official.
