Unofficial Patch 1.4 PC Issues Thread

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 2:25 pm

Perhaps the guys with noticable stutter should post hardware specs? Perhaps even a dedicated thread for that. It would help to find a common denominator which could make it easier to resolve this issue as it's only some who is experiencing it.

I meant to add my spec, then forgot... though it seems a vast array of different specs has them.

i5 2500K @4.3 - Gigabyte Z68A D3-B3 mobo - 8GB 1600mhz RAM - Radeon HD6950 2GB - X-Fi Extreme Gamer - 2 x 1TB Seagate HDD's

Running @ 1680x1050 with 2xAA - injFX d3d9.dll - and quite a few texture replacers, though I tend to stick to the 'lite' or lower res version, rather than some of the crazy HD versions, so my system is not being pushed very hard...

The stutters I'm getting now were not present pre-patch, though I did get the 64hz tick/stutter... these are different and more persistant, though some places are worse than others.

Are you trying to kill all modding community out side steam? My game started to work only after I deleted all Script Dragon files and I still can't access Nexus Mod Manager. What will happen to all my mods that are installed via Nexus mod manager and are not in data folder?

Proudspire Manor's weapon rack has all 5 of them working except the two on the edge that didn't work before now just stacks weapons after weapons and does not allow you retrieve the weapon stored.

I'm stilling having problems CTDing upon entering Falkreath trying to do a DB Forever quest. I step through the entrance of Falkreath and CTD. Same thing with trying to Fast Travel to Hag Rock Redoubt. I have never installed any mods. I also can NOT start the Blood and Ice quest. It almost like we need an utility to run outside the game that will go through and clean up problems inside our save files (if that is the problem).

Here are my specs:

Intel QX9770 (quad extreme running at 3.2 ghz)
Win7 64-bit
8 gigs of RAM
2 Sapphire 6970 setup with Crossfire

I am seeing a LOT of increase in crash frequency since I upgraded to 1.4 (was part of the beta opt in crowd). I think it it's happening during disk access times. The most frequent crashes I have seen are when I start moving right after saving. I also see this happening quite often when moving forward on the road for a while. I think in that case the game had to load a new area from disk without stopping the action. I've seen crashes at the end of combat just before I was about to take a look at the loot on the body.

1.3.10 never crashed on me with the same hardware, and the same drivers.

My full bookshelves inn Breezehome have lost books and become non interactive (the books themselves work fine, but not the shelves that contain them). I have also lost interactivity with many ore veins in the wild, including some I have come across in previously unexplored regions. I also had problems interacting with the focal points in the college of Winterhold in the Out of Balance quest (I did have the tuning gloves on). These issues were present in the betas, but not at all in 1.3.10.

A save file clean up utility/editor is very badly needed. With it one can go in and see what exactly is the issue, and correct it.

Wonder if I will start seeing dragon spawns again now that I have 1.4. For some reason they all stopped for a while with me. I was starting to wonder if my crashes weren't at dragon spawn sites. Game doesn't crash anymore. Kudos.

TL;DR: No. Calm down.

Unsurprisingly, when a game updates, it tends to break mods. Especially ones that inject themselves directly into the game like the Script Extender.

This has happened with every Bethesda game since Morrowind. Bethesda is not attempting to kill the modding community outside of Steam. (Doing so would be financial suicide, considering how much modding has done to extend the lifespan of their games. I'd go as far as to say the only reason people still buy Morrowind these days is because of mods that polish it up and make it more readily accessible to a 2012 audience.)

Instant compatibility between mods and a new game patch is NEVER assured. Your first step when Skyrim patches should be to check for updates to your mods, and if none are available, disable said mods until modders can push out an update if you intend to continue playing the game.

I'm experiencing an issue where there is a significant delay when trying to equip weapons or spells using hotkeys, however, when I equip weapons through the quick selection menu or through the regular inventory screen they are equipped instantly.

This only began as of the 1.4 update. And I experience it with or without mods.

EDIT: Realised I forgot to remove an old version of the FPS limiter mod I had installed. This solved my equipping problem but introduced the insane stutter others are experiencing, I installed what I assume was a newer version of the FPS limiter, my stutter went away and my equipping issue seems to have been resolved. My advice for those experiencing stutter?

Try this: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=34#content

Some npc schedules are off. Last night the blacksmith in Riften had the store open after midnight, and the bad guy in "blood on ice" showed up around two o'clock in the afternoon with a character made for the 1.4 beta who has not been guilty of fast travel.

Has this been tested after waiting 30 in-game days in an empty cell to reset things?

I have had a stable Skyrim for months now. This new patch is causing CTDs and hang on loadings every 20 minutes or so at random. Also after fast travel, textures don't render properly (they are a low quality mipmap and are all blury) which means I'm about to CTD very soon. I have already got rid of all mods, regenerated new .ini files via Launcher, verified Skyrim cache/data via Steam, and am using the same Nvidia beta drivers I have been for months. No changes to my computer whatsoever. Yesterday playing version 1.3: Smooth. Today with 1.4 and all my mods gone: CTDs constantly and I'll get hanging on loading screens. So ticked off. The performance is much better but it's not worth the crashes.

Same, minus the texture glitches. I want a patch 1.4 refund! Or a way to roll back. Curse me for not backing up my EXE! Also getting some "unable to innumerate..." error on startup. What a fool I was to trust this Steam integration BS!

This plus the CK delay adds up to me being a pretty dissatisfied customer. I'll go shut up and drink my oval-steam now.

Running Skyrim vanilla, no mods at all and I keep getting "myHoldOwner property expected to be 1 or 2,
instead have:0". It happens every so often when in the open world and I can click it away without issue. It is more annoying than troublesome.

Anyone know how to fix? Doesn't seem to happen with my alternate toon.

Had a problem with the retrieve golden claw quest with not being able to get the quest started from the riverwood trader. Fixed it now though. I deactivated all the mods I had installed. Started a new game. Saved it then reactivated mods. Now I can start the Golden Claw quest it seems.

may not seem important but the cat camp outside of whiterun is frequently not there for me since the patch. the cats are usually not there and if i wait long enough they show up although at different times. The one guy will sit on the ground as if hes outside the tent as usual the others stand around ontop of each other. I have tried a couple of different saves the last one i went back to the camp still wasnt there and for a full day the khajiit didnt even show at all.

The next day cats showed again and suddenly the camp suddenly slowly formed itself. after this happened I loaded my farthest save and still no camp after waiting. Never had this issue before the patch and I have never used a mod

Have you tried verifying the files and waiting 30 in-game days? Frequently, I see that these issues are fixed by resetting things with the wait time or file corruption, which verification deals with.

Vilkas wont give the quest Purity of Revenge after finishing Blood's Honor. I haven't been to Driftshade Refuge and I haven't done Helm of Winterhold quest.

Sounds like you had mods at one point but they weren't removed correctly / completely...some mods write to the ini files and any left over entries could cause issues like this. Either remove the ini files and start fresh, check for left over mod files, or re-install after a complete removal of all files skyrim related.

I have this problem too. None of my mods wrote to the ini file, but I cleaned it right after the 1.4 beta started. I still get this message some times. It doesn't happen often, but it never happened at all before 1.4 betas for me.

The only way to be sure that it's the patch causing the error message is to do a re-install. Sorry, but anything short of that won't narrow down the cause so the fix will continue to be ellusive.

I gather the patch update is exactly same as the latest Beta because mine has not updated, It all plays great as well with no issues.
Then again i do not use Skse or weired ini edits as game works good as is.

Hey everyone. I have this game for 360 and am thinking of getting it for PC when the price drops a bit. The reason i'm posting is that i'm currently waiting for the 1.4 patch to drop to start a new character, but from what i'm reading it sounds like there's still bugs and crashes. My question is should i not get the 1.4 patch for the 360 version? And when i get this for PC should i not even update the game at all? Because it seems that when i got the game on 11-11-2011 there were no problems whatsoever for me, but since each patch release something bad shows up, like bookshelves not working, an NPC not where they should be or non-existant.. etc. Was the game actually better prior to all these patches?

thanks.
