Unofficial Patch 1.4 PC Issues Thread

This is the thread to discuss issues related to running the game under the new patch. All other patch threads will be directed to this one. Some Notes first:

The Released Patch has the same version number as the Beta Patch. The final Beta is what was released. If it does not appear that your game is updating, make sure you have the game set to update in Steam and Steam in Online Mode. Also, you may need to Verify the File Integrity if the patch does not seem to be taking hold.

Quests

Note, the Quest Fixes should work on an existing save. However some game conditions and data are part of the save and may still not work post patch. Load your current save and try it and see what happens. If it does not work, try loading a save from before you got the quest, if practical, and it should work just fine.

Mods

If you are using mods, you will need to check each and every mod for updates for the new patch. If you try to launch the game post patch with any mods selected and you have issues, the first suspect are the mods. Disable any and all mods and try the game again. Add them back one at a time until you find the problem mod or mods.

Performance and Stabliity Mods, also known as Wrappers or Code Injectors, are not compatible with the new patch, and are not really needed anymore, so those will have to be removed. Those authors may update those mods at some point, check with them to see if it something you still want to use. SKYSE (Skyrim Script Extender) has been updated to the new patch, so that may need to be updated if you use it. Check the Skyrim Mods section if you have any issues with your mods and the game under the new patch.

I am still struggling to get the quest 'Blood on the Ice' to trigger. I loaded my current save in which I had pamphlets, and tried to trigger it by a) entering the city at the correct time a few times and when that did not work B) using the console commands to trigger it. Neither of these worked, so I loaded an older save from before I had the pamphlets and tried both again, with the same result.

I noted that in the patch notes it did say numerous bugs but not all bugs, so is it safe to assume there is still potential for some issues to arise when attempting to trigger the quest?

Just begun a new game with the patch. After killing the dragon at the Northwest tower and coming back to Whiterun to explain what's happened to the Jarl, we are supposed to be met by a courier who has a letter for us. I had the worse trouble getting this courier. I had to reload the game at least five times and redo the way between the tower and the city, shouting and shouting again, before the courier eventually showed up.

I know that some people had naked couriers, mine has always been wearing clothes and this one wasn't naked either. :wink:

Hello. I have found a bug in the Riften Jail. Im running latest Beta Update 1.4 from Steam. There is a problem with one wall - when player stand very close to it then the wall displays properly, but when player step away from it - wall dissapears and we can see void through hole. I attach 2 screenshots presenting this bug.

I deleted all mods (meshes, simple .esps etc) and programs such as SKSE, ENB and Skyboost, yet I still keep getting the same "Skyrim is not working" error message, something is killing my Skyrim. :confused:

This is a known issue in versions of the game prior to 1.4--I think it might have been around since launch. I remember seeing multiple posts and screenshots of it in the Official Buglist thread, at least. Since it wasn't mentioned in the patch release notes, I assume that means Bethesda hasn't gotten around to fixing it yet. :)

Never happened before with 1.3. I was in the beta for 1.4 and everything was was going good actually...when this happened:

I started the Civil War questline. I completed the MQ before even starting the joining quest. (This happens on Stormcloaks and Imperial side). Joined the Stormcloaks/Imperials -> The Jagged Crown starts and ends with no problems -> Message to Whiterun here comes an unusual problem: When i get an axe from Ulfric I should give it to Jarl Balgruuf, but he does not have any dialog options to do it. Using the setstage command does not help. When I use setstage CW03 20 for example I see that it's updated, the Jarl is talking about the axe and what to do, and then starts the conversation with me with the words "About that axe..." and nothing. The same thing is for Ulfric -> setstage etc... the conversation begins, the quest updates but it never follow ups to "Battle for Whiterun". The curious thing is that when i tried to do it for the Imperials General Tullius should give me some documments, but he does not. He gives me Ulfric's War Axe, and this happens again.

I tried to delete all mods, skse and tried to start a save before the questline. Nothing helps. Also When I need to go to Balgruuf his animation is completely suspended (well beside lips) he does not move, unless I attack him or use disable/enable. Checked the integrity and done the defragmentation.

Anyone has a sollution or had this problem?

Blood on the Ice still screwed up -

pre patch I had started it, got thru 1st three steps (from the bottom up on the Quests page)
1)Question the witness
2)Report to the guard
3)Talk to Jorleif

but then I guess I did step # 6 out of order
6) Talk to Helgird
and now step # 4 and 5 do not work
4) get assistance from Jorleif
5) Examine crime scene

A properly written script would either 1) not show step 6 before step 5 was complete,, or 2) allow for out of order execution

So can I reset the ^&*^)^)#$@$ quest and start over or is it ever going to be fixed properly?

I read about this all the time but every character I have made(6) has complete this quest with no issue....I even tried everything I could think of to break it and still nothing. The randomness that is Skyrim...

So the official patch is out? If so time for another reinstall...

I have noticed an overall loss in stability. In fact, under 1.3.20 I had zero CTDs. Now, 1.4 Beta (or is it not a beta already? 1.4.21, anyway) gives me "Game stopped working" and all this stuff. Happens randomly, Got those crashes three times already, played about a two hours in sum. Otherwise, pretty decent patch. Performance of the game is a lot better, even on my low-middle rig.
Also minor problems with sound: some parts of the sound (speech and music, mostly) sometimes "swallowed". E.g. a word in a phrase could be "skipped". Not frequent, but a little annoying.

Even with all my mods turned off, I can't load a previous save while in game. If I do my game freezes, and I have to log off windows to get out of the game. Pressing Alt+tab doesn't work (not that it ever has properly worked), the windows key doesn't work, even Crtl+Atl+Del doesn't work to stop the program. Someday, this game will work?

I am getting CTDs when opening containers or looting from dead bodies and I was never experiencing CTDs before. It happens randomly after I open around 20-30 containers and happens as soon as contents need to be displayed. Note that I'm using SkyUI but I removed all SKSE dll plugins because they are not working with beta. Everything else is perfect except I am now afraid to open containers before I press F5.

Seems to be a minor issue with NPC dialogue; their lines cut off in the middle & they skip to the next one.

Still have problems with dragons not engaging in combat. They come swoop around and around, but never engage, then just fly off.

EDIT: I don't use any mods, just the vanilla version of Skyrim.

If I recal propperly that's an issue with SkyUI. I suppose you'll need to update bot SKSE and SKyUI when avaliable.

I'm not sure this is a bug...it might be a "feature." I know the strategy guide at least makes mention of non-aggressive dragons as a random world encounter. There was a bug fixed a while back with dragons that would aggro but then never land--meaning many non-ranged characters could never engage them--but I think the random dragons that swoop through but never actually attack are just a random encounter.

Would be nice if we could get some official word about that one. My guess is it'll have to wait until we get our hands on the CK and crack the game open to see what's going on there.

Disable SkyUI completely and see if the problem persists.

Rule number one when it comes to troubleshooting if you've got mods involved...always, always, always take your mods out and see if the problem goes away. Cuts troubleshooting time in half.

Not that it fixes the issue, but to be honest, you probably shouldn't be loading saves within an already running game anyway, at least if Skyrim holds up to the long standing tradition of how TES games handle saving and loading. Your old save won't be cleared properly and scripts may get ornery. Better to quit to the main menu, then load whichever save you want.

(Yes, I come from the Morrowind school of thought. Better to be paranoid than to wonder why your save just imploded in your face. :P )

Anti-aliasing appears to be broken. It doesn't do anything at all, regardless of whether I enable it in the game's settings or the Nvidia Control Panel.

I've had problems getting ANY dragons to attack me that aren't static spawns. Had this problem since day 1. I usually have to re-load a savegame 10+ times to finally get one to notice me. My main is a melee toon, but I do carry a bow, and arrows don't even get their attention. My mage has the same problems :(

I had a playable FPS in the Beta Patch 1.4.15 but with the latest release I lost 10 FPS and when you start at 17 that's too much. The game went from playable to unplayable with this final release.

Not the best GPU but I was getting 17-20 FPS in the beta now I am down to 6-7 FPS

Noticed smoother gaming, but now I CTD with no message after about 10-15 min of play. I save quite often but this is a bit of a drag.
