Unofficial Patch 1.4 PC Issues Thread

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 2:54 pm

in regard to the khajiit i verfied the integrity of my cache before I ever posted. I waited a few days past a full 31 just across the road from them to no effect. Went inside town waited a bit came out and they were gone waited a couple days more noone still. went back in town waited and the old guy was there sitting when i came out and after waiting an hour the others were but the camp still didnt exist.

I noticed before trying your wait a month idea that useing smaller waits and more observing they started off on a journey somewhere past the tower u kill your first dragon at but I don't have the patiance to see where they walk too and if anything waiting across the street for a month delayed the trip big time.

Before this patch I always remember them sitting in their camp outside whiterun no issues to me they were just an obstacle but still added to the immersion its just really annoying not being able to see the camp I know is there although has no physical or visable presense

Uh, irrelevant. The patch works for most people. The only comparison between platforms would be the content fixes.

The only way to be sure that it's the patch causing the error message is to do a re-install. Sorry, but anything short of that won't narrow down the cause so the fix will continue to be ellusive.

I have a save file which will cause the specific error message on anyone's game upon loading. Guaranteed. Yes you will need to set ugrids to 7, and ignore the first pop up message about missing files (it's only the realistic water textures mod). I am willing to bet neither is the reason of this second pop up that will occur right after you load the bugged save. Too bad Bethesda has a policy of not investigating any save files if mods were installed. That is very short sighted approach IMO. If the mod is the issue you can see it and tell me, if it's not the issue you will see the game related issue causing the pop up right in the save file. This issue is not illusive, I wish they were willing bend a little for me after having isolated it.

Okay, on the stuttering, so far it seems (from the few posts here) that except for one person everyone else runs their game on an AMD card? Could it be that something in the optimization does not agree with these cards? Or perhaps the problem was already there but now more apparent due to higher frame rates?

Hey everyone. I have this game for 360 and am thinking of getting it for PC when the price drops a bit. The reason i'm posting is that i'm currently waiting for the 1.4 patch to drop to start a new character, but from what i'm reading it sounds like there's still bugs and crashes. My question is should i not get the 1.4 patch for the 360 version? And when i get this for PC should i not even update the game at all? Because it seems that when i got the game on 11-11-2011 there were no problems whatsoever for me, but since each patch release something bad shows up, like bookshelves not working, an NPC not where they should be or non-existant.. etc. Was the game actually better prior to all these patches? thanks.
The game after 1.4 is not worse than release. It is clearly better in many ways. There are many quest fixes in the release that were not in any previous version. There are also issues with regards to stability, and some new interaction issues. The problem is the list of quest fixes is about 1/3 of the total number of issues identified by the users. I got the can't finish the black star quest bug on my machine. It is listed in the wiki for the game, so the issue was there from the start. It was not fixed in this patch. I remember Bethesda telling us that there were going to be regular data updates in January fixing quest bugs. By regular updates, I was expecting one every week fixing bugs until they were all gone by the end of the month, not a partial fix at the end that added new bugs. /rant

Not 1.4 specific, but the biggest issue I have yet, one that's beena round since release day.

Pressing whatever key is bound to "Change POV" repeatedly fails to change POV. 3, 5 or 7 key presses to switch from 3rd person to 1st person for archery, or to go from 1st person exploration of enclosed spaces to 3rd person melee combat is [censored].

Edit: Misspelled [censored].

Other than the backward flying dragons and resistance glitch the patches have been improving things for me. The last patch helped outdoor performance tremendously. Now I just need an indoor fix for candles and mist without resorting to ini fixes.

Here are some minor glitches I found last night which were probably in earlier versions.
 • The blacksmith in Markath, Gorza?, has no dialog option for investing in her business.
 • The Skyforge dagger cannot be improved.
 • The Nord Hero bow cannot be improved.

Redguard woman being questioned by Al'akir in the countryside was naked, that is a first for me.

I can not start the game since the new patch.
I get the "Skyrim stopped working blah blah"
I have deleted all local content and started reloading the game when I left for work today.
Will see if it works when I get home!!

Do you have any overlay software? Such as Fraps or EVGA Precision? When I got the game I was unable to start the game at all until I closed precision. Once the game was launched, I can re-open precision and close/launch the game just fine even after reboots it causes no issues but sometimes it rears it's ugly head and happens again and I have to re-do the process. Hope this helps, good luck to you. I know how frustrating that is. :(

Still can't get this thing running; no mods, no .ini, verified by steam, still nothing

I'm running it with a laptop, never ran quickly at all before but now it won't even let me past the Bethesda Logo...

AMD 6970 here. Not a single stutter in sight. I think if we're going to get to the bottom of the stuttering issue, we're going to need to start another thread and start collecting more detailed information: exact card name/family, driver version, other system information and of course graphics settings.

It's possible this is a problem limited to a certain type of cards (ex, AMD 5xxx series cards or whatever), or a combination of cards, graphics settings and drivers. It is not a blanket AMD/ATI issue, however.

Has this been tested after waiting 30 in-game days in an empty cell to reset things?
It certainly has not. I just thought I'd mention it, because it is the first oddity I've run in to with the 1.4 beta.

I'm running an AMD 5770 with no problems at all with performance or stutter even at Ultra settings so it's definitely not a blanket AMD thing.

Hello. I have found a bug in the Riften Jail. Im running latest Beta Update 1.4 from Steam. There is a problem with one wall - when player stand very close to it then the wall displays properly, but when player step away from it - wall dissapears and we can see void through hole. I attach 2 screenshots presenting this bug.

I can duplicate this issue if I turn on AA Super-Sampling on my ATI Control Center. If I change it to Multi-Sampling the issue goes away.

I have noticed an overall loss in stability. In fact, under 1.3.20 I had zero CTDs. Now, 1.4 Beta (or is it not a beta already? 1.4.21, anyway) gives me "Game stopped working" and all this stuff. Happens randomly, Got those crashes three times already, played about a two hours in sum. Otherwise, pretty decent patch. Performance of the game is a lot better, even on my low-middle rig.
I've been getting some micro-stuttering since the new patch, but otherwise performance has seen an improvement.
Noticed smoother gaming, but now I CTD with no message after about 10-15 min of play. I save quite often but this is a bit of a drag.

I'm getting these issues as well. FIRSTLY, YES I DID remove ALL mods, heck I completely deleted the game and all content except for my saves. I re-installed from Steam, made sure my .ini's were GONE and allowed the game to use it's recommended settings and verified integrity through Steam. Despite all that I am still getting CTD after about 1hr of play time. Prior to the 1.4 patch I had no CTD with 1.3 :(

We still have people dropping from nowhere. Yesterday, a Whiterun guard splashed on the floor quite in front of me. On arriving near the body, I just had the time to see that it was a Whiterun guard and pfffffttt it disappeared. After that, it was a necromancer that fell on the floor from nowhere but this one didn't disappeared.

Yeah, I noticed this as well. I talked to a Stormcloak then turned around to see a horse fall from the sky directly in front of me. I had a quick save right before this too so if I load it up and speak to the Stormcloak the horse falls from the sky every single time. lol.

I also wanted to add that after uninstall/re-install I started a new character just in case the issue was save related. Unfortunately, even with the new character I get CTDs roughly every 1hr of game play.

Up until patch 1.4 I have had only one issue and that was with the Blood on Ice quest. Now after patch 1.4 the Blood on Ice quest still won't work and lock pick is completely broken.

Proudspire Manor's weapon rack has all 5 of them working except the two on the edge that didn't work before now just stacks weapons after weapons and does not allow you retrieve the weapon stored.

I also saw a mammoth levitating all of a sudden before getting back on the floor, unharmed.

All this was already described in earlier versions of the game; it means that it's still to be fixed. These droppings things are quite disturbing.

I've had mammoth's fall from the sky before. However, soon after playing Skyrim with patch 1.4, the female orc blacksmith in Markath dropped from the sky when I exited the Hag's Cure. I resurrected her with the console, as I've been doing with other town NPCs killed by dragons, and she now seems permenately shacked in Underkeep with the other blacksmith there - her assistant is now the outside blacksmith, so not biggy, just unexpected.

If you're encountering crashes and use SKSE you should grab the newest version of SKSE, 1.04.10. See http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1339663-wipz-skyrim-script-extender-skse/page__view__findpost__p__20217542 for details.

About time someone tried to consolidate this mess.
Now that the beta forum is gone, I suppose I should post this here. This was confirmed by other users in the beta forum and the PC forum.

A radiant quest can be obtained by retrieving a "courier's letter" from a dead courier. The normal contents of the letter look something like this:

To our respectable investor,
It seems our expedition to has met with some resistance from its inhabitants. I know this isn't the first time, but if you would provide us with a few more men and supplies, we are certain the treasure there would yield a return on your investment.
This time for sure.
If not, we could begin searching for prospects outside of .
A swift reply would be most appreciated.

Obviously, as this is a radiant quest, the fields will be filled in dynamically. However, on 1.4.21, this letter reads simply:

To our respectable investor,
It seems our expedition to

This letter was received prior to installing the 1.4.21 and was displayed properly under 1.3.10. No mods were installed at the time this was tested.

Soon after the Markath blacksmith died I received a letter of inheritence that simply says 'In the name of Jarl' and nothing else - I've never recieved one before (in 260 hours playtime), so I can't say for sure this problem is specific to the new patch, but from other comments I've seen it may be.

I run on a GTX480 NVIDIA card and have pretty bad stutter after the patch. Rather than constant stutter it is relatively smooth then one terrible lag spike every 2sec or so.
