Everyone saying the console isn't a toy are being a bit too over-dramatic. I play on both PC and Xbox and I've used it to fix stuff that broke in my game but mostly just to have pure fun. Pretending it's only a tool for debugging makes you seem a bit to arrogant to me, maybe it's the way you are saying it but when you say "NO! It's ONLY for debugging AND modders!" you come off as somebody with a superiority complex looking down on those of us who use the console for fun. Whichever one it is I suggest you amend your wording and pay attention to it more carefully in the future. All the OP wants is a console on the Xbox and I can see it as a potential risk with things such as spawning too many NPC's and harming the Xbox/Playstation which can be easily avoided by programming a limit to player spawned NPC's.....don't say it's impossible, you know better than that. Also, in regards to mods being on console, Todd Howard has spoken about juggling the idea and utmost willingness to provide for a mod sharing "shop" in the console versions but Microsoft's and Sony's stand on 3rd party mods is a firm opposition and until a compromise can be made between the two companies it will be unlikely to be included any time soon.

The command console is VERY powerful. It is able to change nearly every setting about the game, including graphics settings. If console players were allowed access to these functions, people would inevitably try and up the settings further then what the hardware can support, and potentially cause the game to no longer function properly or at all. Microsoft and Sony don't want to be blamed for these things when they are clearly user stupidity. PC users can cause these things as well but because we can dig into the files, we can fix anything we do while console users can't.

The item adding commands and god mode commands were made for testing things. Literally. That is the history behind cheat codes. Developers needed a way to test their games without having to actually play the game every time they just needed to check a graphical change on level 98.

Programming a limited command console is indeed possible, however the time needed to develop one for console users would not be worth the time invested. So such a feature is not even within the scope of Bethesda's list of priorities. So its not that this can't happen, but it sure won't happen, that is for sure.

I know nothing about the XBox or the PS3 so this might be a stupid question. Is it possible to type in console commands using a controller?

I'm sure its possible. Two Worlds had a console command menu on xbox 360.

Again, I stated I understand that it is powerful but just because something was designed for one thing doesn't mean it can't evolve beyond it's original purpose if used differently because that's exactly how cheats came to be cheats, as you just stated. Besides that, the time taken to develop a limited console isn't as bad as you are making it seem as the only problem is removing and/or limiting potentially problematic commands while still offering up a variety of commands for Xbox/PS3 users. Not only that, it doesn't even have to be included in release, it can be developed as part of a patch or free download later on after release as Bethesda has shown they are quite capable of adding drastic changes to the game in patch form. (See patches 1.5 and 1.6)

No matter how you slice it, it can be done and the only thing standing in the way is people saying it can't because they don't like the idea of not being the "Superior ones" otherwise known as your typical PC really devoted fan. Because the only thing they have that they can use to argue their false claims of superiority is mods and console commands. This is just a case of PC only users blowing it out of proportion and putting down console only users.

Now don't get all uppity with me after this post because this thread is not going to make a big difference and even IF, BIG IF, Bethesda did implement this idea it in no way affects you whatsoever. So there's no point in debating it. All I do is state the obvious and things that I see here and I saw a bunch of uppity PC only users flat out deny this persons idea, indirectly stating the idea was poorly thought out or just plain stupid, because they don't have the time of day to actually think about anything more than putting somebody down.

No, the only thing standing in the way is Bethesda, Sony and Microsoft.

Put it this way: Would you rather their time being spent on
a.) DLC/Bug fixes for Skyrim
b.) TES VI/FO4
c.) Some cheats that would probably get old in a week?

I don't see anyone putting down console users. The fact of the matter is, if they put the console on consoles (lol) someone would [censored] their game up so badly, make a big huff about it and blame Microsoft. They don't want to deal with that, and Bethesda would rather spend their time adding new content.

The market doesn't work - it's bloated - because people like you who feed the machine. You keep buying the latest CPUs, memory, and graphics cards so you can get 1000 more polygons and 5 more frames per second. Then post your config in your sig like it makes you look cool. Using words like "cheaper product" makes you more of a "bigot" than the average console gamer.

If the thread doesn't get locked you can flame me all you like - I won't say anymore other than: it's not about being able to afford a top notch gaming PC I just got tired of chasing upgrades because of gaming companies. I got tired of having one badass PC and a bunch of good and decent components lying around.

His screen name is "Ego" - do you really expect anything polite or useful?

First, I only renovated my computer a grand two times in my life, quit eating the propaganda your friends feed you.

Second, what's your problem? Half of all PC users on these forums have their specs sig'd in case they need technical support.

Third, my display name was a really terrible argument, but what else to expect... next.
