PS3 Release for Dawnguard - Thread #18

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 9:38 pm

It's no problem.

Although you're trying to avoid story spoilers, there isn't much to spoil. The story is very straightforward with no surprises.
Maybe 1 that I can think of, but not much of a surprise because it wasn't something I ever wondered about.

But if you watched the trailer, you'll pretty much know 85% of the storyline lol

surprising i haven't even seen the trailer....i just didnt feel like it at the time...

I saw the trailer while on youtube, it was an ad.

1
It is promised, the moment they gave it to Xbox they had a 30 day release deal with PS3 and PC. That in itself is a promise otherwise its not a 30 day exclusive.

2
No its not an argument, its an opinon, which is freely voiced.

This has been debated and elucidated several times. Just because the Xbox had a 30 day exclusive period with the DLCs that doesn't mean the release date for the other systems are exactly 30 days after the Xbox gets it. Everyone with knowledge of how DLC works were already telling users of the other two platforms to not expect the add-ons within 30 days post Xbox release. That release date was a complete assumption created by the users and not one the Bethesda "promised". With that being said, no one ever promised anything in regards to DLC releases.

As for my second statement, you took that out of context. It was referring to a seperate post, that I quoted, saying something along the lines of them only being upset because they didn't get what they paid for after buying Skyrim and the add-ons are just things that were removed from the game. Yes it is an opinion, which this forum is intended for and all opinions can be argued which is where I went on to say that is an entirely seperate argument whether he was right or wrong it just doesn't correlate with this particular discussion. It's actually a fair assessment, one that I can't provide evidence against and it's an idea that I would like to discuss myself. This thread just isn't the place for it.

I don't get why Bethesda would do what they did. I'm sure they have the money to hire programmers and such who actually understand the PS3 hardware. You can't just go porting from one console to another, it just mucks everything up in the process. The game needs to be coded right for each system. If both systems were exactly the same, what would be the point in even having two different consoles? And I do know there was one company that had said they pretty much took the 360 code and used that for the PS3 version and they just ended up with a version with issues that weren't on the 360. So they had rebuilt the code to work specifically for the PS3 and ended up with a game that looked much better than the 360 and actually worked,

So, yeah, sure. That would take time and money to make sure the code works on the PS3. But that would lead to a happier fan base and most likely working DLC rather than this crap we're stuck in now. At this point, Bethesda should just hand things over to 4J because apparently they know how to do things right there.

I've actually debated with myself as to whether i should or shouldn't make a separate thread on that sentiment, but ultimately chose not to because i'm sure such a thread would either be closed outright or rolled back into this one.

There is a difference between a customer demanding a service/product that was promised and 'entitlement' and there is a difference between wanting instant gratification and wanting the same level of treatment as other customers regardless of platform of choice.

And until you can see the difference between those concepts, probably best you not try to bandy them about.
Hello pot. The absolute FACT is bethesda never promised the DLC right after the 30 days expired. That was entirely invented by forum users and if anything they implied it take longer then 30 days.

In all honesty, it really is a fair assessment. One that's shared by more than just you and I and one that no one, to me at least, has disproven. It's the contrary actually. I have more of a reason to believe that stuff is pulled from the original game in order to repackage and resell rather then them creating entirely new content. However, it's kind of a two way street because it's a known fact that content did get pulled from the game solely to meet the Skyrim release date, so it's hard to tell if there was no such thing as DLC if we would actually see things like Dawnguard or Hearthfire.

Eh, that's why it would be nice to have a thread where we could openly discuss this. I would love to anolyze this and deliberate it with others. I just basically had an argument with myself, lol. I would make the thread for this too but you're probably right. It would most likely get closed. That, and it would probably spark a whole lot of anger which also leads to a quick thread lock.

Sony has confirmed that they are, in fact, working closely with Bethesda to resolve this mess, and that everyone involved is doing their best to fix it. The story just ran on Kotaku a few hours ago.

They haven't given up on it, which is good news. If this can be fixed, the Sony developers will figure it out.

while entirely true, The question remains though..what the in hello kitty have they been doing the entire time during the 30 days time frame? working on PS3/PC version? where they testing said versions and then boom they suddenly ran into problems on the PS3? the fact we're looking at an other FO3 DLC crisis isn't bodeing well for Bethesda this time around that you have to atlest agree with. thier angry gamers out thier, I for one just want my crossbows already. Exactly

The handle is Spiritreaver btw. Not 'pot'.

When did i say that Bethesda said that? You are making me saying that, the basis of your argument here and that is completely wrong. I've repeatedly said that Microsoft was totally justified in procuring timed exclusivity for their platform and that i have no problem with it. But you seem to like ignoring that little fact.

What was expressly implied by Bethesda however, was that both PS3 and PC would both be getting Dawnguard in about the same time frame after the Microsoft exclusivity period had passed. Now when you can show where has happened, beyond the trite "I waited many many many months for DLC on previous Bethesda titles" refreain, i'll be happy to discuss THAT with you.

IMO, a few things may have happened in the 30 day window after Dawnguard DLC landed on the Xbox 360:

1) Bethesda did no work on either the PS3 OR PC versions while they were focusing on issues that version had. Then quickly started a hasty port to both platforms thinking they could bang them out and release them with no one the wiser. Worked for PC, PS3 not so much....

2) They actually were working on both PS3 and PC versions of DG and while they were able to achieve some level completion with the PC version, DG broke the spit and bailing wire patches holding the PS3 version of Skyrim-vanilla together.

or(and might i add, the scenario i'm currently leaning toward)

3) Bethesda was actively working on the PC version, having scrapped the PS3 version altogether in favor of just repacking it and any other DLC for an additional release in a compilation form slated for a release later on down the line. However they underestimated PS3 customer's reaction this time around. Then the media really got involved and we all know the rest as we are all neck deep in it atm.

Speculation on my part of course, since Beth. has been stone-walling since June.

I'm not really sure. Even the ones that have it, some have experienced game breaking bugs or just real annoying glitches.

Again, if the ones who have it have it bad sometimes, how bad is the PS3?

Valid point and one to not overlook.

I just think, like has been said by quite a few here and elsewhere, there is more to it than that. I mean just how bad is it, if Bethesda can release PS3 versions FO3, FONV, and even the Skyrim-vanilla with a straight face, but balk at releasing a $20 DLC for reasons of quality assurance?

From any POV, just all kinds of bad.

The PC verison came out a little more then 30 days after the 360. You and others make a big deal about it not coming out at the same time as the ps3. But that unification was never promised or implied. People simply assumed without cause because the assumption felt better. The silence towards the end of the 30 day period implied it take longer. The avoiding any questions of an actual release date as the 30 days counted down implied it would take longer. Not having the release date the first tuesday after the 30 day period expired implied Dawnguard wasn't ready for other platforms by its 360 release date and simply delayed due to the microsoft deal.

while entirely true, The question remains though..what the in hello kitty have they been doing the entire time during the 30 days time frame? working on PS3/PC version? where they testing said versions and then boom they suddenly ran into problems on the PS3? the fact we're looking at an other FO3 DLC crisis isn't bodeing well for Bethesda this time around that you have to at lest agree with. thier angry gamers out thier, I for one just want my crossbows already. They were probably working on it during that 30 day period, but didn't know when it be fixed. I've done tech support and quite often you don't know how long something will take to fix until you've finished. On August 2nd they first posted about the delay, this was the same day it was released on the PC.

During the whole FO3 DLC fiasco they gave out release dates but they were always wrong it kept getting pushed back, and I said more then once they should just stop giving out estimations and during that time I [censored]ed, moaned and swore up and down but it did not make me feel better it did not make anything come any sooner all it did was make me more upset. During this wait I've gone back to New Vegas, played through the first two mass effect games. I even worked on Fallout fanfiction, including two that crossed over with MTV's Daria.

Getting pissed off and attacking bethesda isn't going to help so why bother. Bethesda is in the business to make money, selling Dawnguard to ps3 players equals profit, and really insulting them probably isn't a good motivatior so...

Yeah they all had problems.

And to list the more common bugs that cause alot of issue, the gate won't open at the castle making it impossible to continue, serana disappears forever and I think she's needed for the quest, she has scripts. Radiants repeat which, you can't repeat some of the radiants and that just kind of gets you a bit stuck.

Of course theres more and they do alot of bad, but these seem like the more common ones. Easy fixes on PC but on 360 you can't do a thing. Same with PS3.

Seeing how PS3 always has MORE problems than 360, there'd be even more bugs that are gamebreaking and more common I'd assume.

Now I played dawnguard on PC. I had some weird issue where the entire town of Riverwood would try to kill me, no bounty or anything. And someone else had a glitch that let them kill Delphine. If I were to experience both those glitches at once on a console, it would destroy my main quest.

I also had the issue of NPC's attacking each other when I needed both alive and quests were done. They're both essential so it just kept going. But I'm on PC so I was able to stop it with a few console commands and stuff.
It's why I say PC even got dawnguard in the first place, console commands and mods

The main issue with the PS3 seems like it has a new world with each loaded game for whatever reason. I take that as, either you start at Helgen again, or everything resets and you just keeps your stats items and placement. No idea though.

Never said I was pissed I've gotten other games to fill my time, With AC3/Liberation coming out plus BLOPS2 I'll be busy for months to come, At the time I really wasn't around on the board for the FO3 fisaco I never really paid attention, New vegas again not on the board didn't follow it closely, and I rather not talk about FONV.......my experience was so horrible I rather forget I brought the game, I mean I started a brand new playthough over a month ago not even five mintues into the game, it freezes up, after that I sold it to game stop for whatever it was worth, few other games and paid my phone bill off.

and their is a slight chance it may get cancelled that be really bad for bethesda....think of the PS3 gamers now and if that happens...I'll leave the board and run for the hills.

A lot of people think this is an easy fix or something. They are literally going to have to test everything Dawnguard interacts with for bugs, which is a staggering amount, especially considering the already shaky condition the game is in on PS3. In short, patience is the key, content will come, but no amount of name-calling, or childish whining will bring it any sooner.

Childish whining? We paid for this game and, long story short got shafted on all fronts. But its childish we are upset and whining.

You know, its this sentiment that gets me more than any amount of snark from Tweet hines or even Bethesda's seeming inability to work on the PS3.

I have been personally been playing videogames literally most of my life and was in the industry for some time in my late teens early 20's; of course coding isn't 'easy'. If it was everyone would do it and there would be no need for game developers. I'm personally fine with waiting months for Dawnguard, well more months.

I don't need a down to the second estimated release date. I don't expect Bethesda to magically whip up a solution to the current dilemma five minutes from now, give me a call on my phone and give me a personal url so i can pull a perfect PS3 version of DG just for me. I don't want anything unreasonable really.

Point for Bethesda, imo, they've admitted they are not up to the task of fixing w/e is wrong with getting Dawnguard on the PS3 on their own. If they would just take it one step further and say yea or nay to whether or not PS3 will be getting DG as an electronic dl or if they have decided to just go the GotY route, or if DLC of any kind were not possible, that would be enough i think. And i'm positive Bethesda has that answer yet they continue to string their PS3 customers along with double-speech laden non-answers.

Specifically @ the bolded line-that's the whole point in a nutshell. All in all there has been patience, but with the possibility of the DLC being cancelled hanging there its not reasonable to expect ppl to not want a definite answer at some point.

The condition of the game isn't so shaky anymore. Some people got screwed over by the last patch mainly from large save files, but the people with smaller files typically were in great condition.

I'm sure there were a few other bugs here and there but, if you don't have a large save file typically the game runs roughly what you woulda expected 11/11/11 lol

I am very sad to see that this forum has nothing to focus on but negatives. I try to be as positive as i can be, and get told i am a fool. I believe in having faith in others. I have faith in Bethesda. It hurts me to say this, mostly because i consider many of you as friends, but i dont think i can keep participating in this forum. It is nothing but people complaining...and bringing others down. I wont allow anyone else to try and bring me down. I deserve better than that. I wish all of you the best of luck. I still have high hopes for Dawnguard...but i think i need some time away from this forum. I really hope someone can bring a little light into this dark place.

Remember...keep your heads held high!
Have faith
Have hope

Sincerely,

Storm.

Well....I see that this thread is becoming a downer...I'm sorry...but i cant deal with all of this negativity. I wish you all the best of luck...i am taking a break from this forum for a while. It was nice to associate with all of you. I still have high hopes for Dawnguard. Maybe i will talk to you guys again soon.

Sincerely,

Storm

Not so much a downer, not nearly as much as it was weeks past, but just a bit more "opposition" in the thread than usual.

But alright, I'm sure people will miss the enthusiasm.

Btw, you're leaving us in silence. You fail as the new PR! :P

Sharing this because i find it hilarious.

Since the 1.6/1.7 patch, i haven't had any slowdown or other major problem, but i have been getting humorous glitches. Like every every other time or so i mount Shadowmere, my character will stand at attention for a few seconds before adopting the now seated position in the saddle. And my favorite glitch thus far, which sadly included Shadowmere again, i just yesterday exit a barrow to find my steed locked in combat with not one but 2 Ancient Dragons, a bear, AND and Ice Troll. LOL, died before i could even unsheath my weapon, but i was laughing so hard i didn't even care.
