Roggvir's execution.

A barrage of arrows would have been more appropriate.
He gets one to the chest, every playthrough.
My first, and only, stormcloak playthrough I think I actually managed to save him by killing the guards quickly.

I tried this too, but I think he just stood there and watched, didn't run away. And of course the whole city was coming down on me, and respawning guards......I really wish they allowed for an option to save him.

First of all, the High King was with the Empire, and the Empire is nothing but the Thalmors puppet, so as a true nord, it was the right thing to do.

Second is, that Ulffic challenged the High King, wich is a traditional way of doing it in Skyrim. He didnt even assassinate or hired some other guy to do it. He ran up to him and did it the nords costom way.

Any nord that would disagree with this is a traitor!

Hero? Not sure about that, but I do not think he was a traitor. What Ulfric did was, after Nordic traditions, legal so he should have been required to do it in the first place. That he got killed over it was not right.

Like many in the Stormcloak army, he just did what he thought was right. Now, I'm an Imperial kindda' guy, but based on the information
we've been given by the residents of Solitude, I'd say he was guilty in letting a criminal, a murderer of the High King of Skyrim go out
through the gates, but he stood up for what he believed in.

Sadly - the Nord traditions and the Imperial law don't mix very well.

Meh, I never liked the nationalistic Nord's anyway seeing him die gave me almost the same pleasure of imagining Nick Griffin have his head on the same platter. :drag:

He was a traitor. End of! He basically killed the High King himself, so his punishment was just!

Ok, so he has family, but so did The High King

Did the king accept the challenge? Yes. Was his death murder? No.
It was the result of his foolish choice to accept the challenge in combat.
Was Roggvir's death murder? Yes.
Name once criminal act he committed, which the king did not bring on himself.

Yeah, traitor.
Only if you ignore the facts.

I support the Empire. But I also believe the High King wasn't murdered. So I'm indifferent.

He's dead now. Let bygones be bygones.

Hmm....I must admit, I did not know that the High King accpted the combat challenge, I thought it was with their armies, not one on one combat!

If in fact that is the case, then according to Skyrim's traditions, when he accepted the challenge and lost, Ulfric should have taken the throne.

HOWEVER, since I haven't played Skyrim for a while, I don't remember hearing this....and I love the Legion, so I'm kind of biased :P

I was sad when he died, I don't think he should have been executed at all to be honest, so he opened a gate letting Ulfric in? Ever think that maybe the high king was a bad man? We never met him so how can we judge his character?? I mean its just like the imperials, at first when I heard all about them I wanted to join them than when I got to meet them and see how they speak about certain matters I hated them, yet they say its for the people? pfff

Am I the only Ulfric supporter here?

From my brief talk with Torygg, I'd say he is of good character and I doubt he's a bad man. Hell, there was a chance he would've joined the Stormcloaks and done away with the Imperials. Ulfric kills him anyways, despite that because he wants to send a message to the Imperials. If anything, Ulfric is of poor character.

I signed in, finally just to coment on this, becuase i see that people are completely confused and ill informed.

First - when Ulfric came into Solitude, and Roggvir's open a gate for him. There was nothing he could do about it - Ulfric was a Jarl comming into city, and a friend of High King, nobody knowed at that time(except probably Thalmor), that Ulfric came to kill the High King.

Second - Ulfric NEVER murdered High King, that's a false propaganda spread by imperials. You can ask this at the court - specially court wizard, Sibile - she was there, when Ulfric CHALLENGED High King for One on One combat. He didn't stab him in the back or anything. The things that Elsif says, that Ulfric just shouted and her husband was dead, is because she was confused and striken by grief at the time, which clouded her mind (i know this from personal experience, it happens when you lose someone dear to you, and you wont percieve events as they trully are).

Third - there was NOTHING that Roggvir could do to stop Ulfric. Noone at the court haven't even try. Why? Because there was no reason to do so, they all seen that they battled one on one, a fair combat and Ulfric killed him with his sword. So why should they execute a gate keeper, when none of the Thanes, not even a all powerful vampire mage haven't done a thing to stop Ulfric from leaving Solitude.

Then after that, Empire freeks out that they lost their middle man in Skyrim, and quickly started spreading story of how Ulfric murdered High King, and everyone could be traitor. Then they had to punish somebody for it, to show that they are serious - and they simply pick Roggvir, because he was just a gatekeeper. I think they even executed some people before him, and probably after as well, nothing boosts a legioneries morale more then a good execution.

These right here. If ya ask me, the Imperials wanted a scapegoat. So, they chose the gate keeper, and appeased everyone's bloodlust.

He shouldn't have been killed for it. Ulfric beat him in a duel so he was allowed to leave Solitude freely. Roggvir is a hero for sticking to the Nordic way while the rest of the guards line their pockets with Imperial gold.

According to Imperial Law it was murder.

Third - there was NOTHING that Roggvir could do to stop Ulfric.
He could have kept the door closed and refused to open the gate. Had this been done Ulfric would have been captured in Solitude

Also, Torygg didn't have a choice. He knew he was going to die if he accepted, but if he declined, Ulfric would use that for his Stormcloak campaigns and he'd never hear the end of it, plus he'd be dishonored and viewed as weak. So either way, Ulfric was going to benefit from this deal and placed Torygg in a tricky spot. He just randomly goes in to Solitude one day and says "Death or dishonor?" You can't really hold Torygg's melee skills against him, he didn't have any knowledge of the Thu'um and not all leaders are made out for combat. If combat prowess did matter in politics, then Tamriel should be a military state and Tullius should be Emperor, not Mede.

Titus Mede I was a very accomplished warlord before he became emperor, and from what I can guess, Attrebus finally grew up by the end of the TES books. In addition, Mede II did fight in the retaking of White Gold Tower, so it's not like Mede II was inept at fighting.
