Since when are Redguards... white?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:55 am

Seems pretty clear that more and more TES has portrayed Redguards as comparable to people from the Middle East in the real world (the quest with the chick from Whiterun makes that pretty blatant), meaning you'll get a variation of skin tones.

How are they middle eastern? The only similarity is their dress, because they live in a hot desert.

This whole thread ...

I'm just pointing out the North American- and Eurocentrism

in this thread.

Knew I'd regret returning to read the rest of the replies.

The Redguards have mosques, cannons, curved swords, a tradition built on trade and war, warrior-nomads that live as their ancestors did, and their invasion of Hammerfell echoes a lot on how the Caliphates expanded so far and so fast.

They also have sage-warriors that can fight with their own soul energy which probably lead to the sinking of Yokuda, and that doesn't show in any culture what so ever. People need to realize that although the Redguards have some parallels to real life cultures, there are no Raga Da in real life. Their culture, appearance, and traditions are their own. We can speculate all we want, but until Bethesda decides to flesh them out more, there can only be here-say.

I assume you are white. I suppose if they made you have black palms and black bottoms of feet that`d be ok then? Also consider how much `influence a black person may have. If he`s at the bottom of the pecking order, probably none.
Some games managed to do it right, like Far Cry 2.

The scenario you proposed is simply ludicrous, the developers would have actually have to put in more work to implement such a thing, as an aside I generally don't spend the better part of my game meticulously examining the palms of my character's hands nor the soles of their feet.

p.s. just seeing a black person isn`t enough to knowing a black person. You can work by them all day and still know nothing about them.

Hmm, nothing like the fresh smell of politically correct condescension in the morning! No doubt the interwebz are a step closer to enlightenment thanks your valiant efforts.

This really is not going anywhere good. Since when do characters in a fantasy game have to be based on real life race characteristics?

Next you will be complaining about the beast races as they don't exist in real life. Give it a rest - it's a game.
