Since when are Redguards... white?

Everyone knows this quest. In the game she looks like a Redguard. Dark skin, looking pretty much like African in the real world. However in that link she looks like a white/Caucasian girl.

Also, I noticed several Alik'r during the quest appear to be white/Caucasian as well. Why is that? I thought Redguards where DARK skinned?

I know it's petty but it is annoying to me being big on true-to-lore stuff. You can make a white Redguard character, as well as a black Nord. Lol, I r sew comfoozed.

That's because before the final Tweaks Redguards actually looked white
here is a much better example http://uesp.net/wiki/File:SR-WomanHall_wLegal.jpg

Also there are Imperials that look like redguards because of their excessively dark skin tone.

The picture in that link is not how she looks in my game. I think whoever took that picture must have had their gamma turned up, because in my game she looks very much darker than that. So do the Alik'r that I've seen. I should disclose, though, that I use mods that adjust brightness and contrast a bit, so my game may be darker overall than some folk's games.

What's the example of exactly? Is that supposed to be a Redguard?

Yes. That is what they looked like before last minute revamp.

Yeah she is black in my game too. But a couple of the Alik'r guards during the quest were actually white. And one of the two guys chilling at the Whiterun gate once the quest is finished and done with -- is white too.

Last minute revamp? I lol'd for real. Why would Bethesda have to do a last minute change on a common-knowledge type thing? Man, they have really screwed a lot of things up in this game but I still love playing it.

Seems pretty clear that more and more TES has portrayed Redguards as comparable to people from the Middle East in the real world (the quest with the chick from Whiterun makes that pretty blatant), meaning you'll get a variation of skin tones.

That would be slapping TES lore right in the its face.

Inconsistencies in TES Lore from one game to the next? Color me shocked.

Do you have any source for that information other than what the UESP says?

Also, to the OP. Look at the background to the picture you were talking about. It's very obvious that the image was edited so you could see the NPC more clearly.

That picture in the wiki has been tweaked for contrast/brightness. She looks darker in the game.

I don't mind that Imperials and Nords can be black, too. If your black character is born in those regions, he or she is still of that region. (The racial abilities for these two races are cultural or geographic in quality, rather than genetic.)

What annoys me more is that most of the in-game (human) black NPCs look WASP-y, regardless of skin tone. Addendum: i.e. I can't remember a single black character that actually looks African. They all look African American.

A lot of you are misunderstanding me.

I posted the picture as an example to how some Redguards in the game look white. I wasn't saying that actual character is white. She's dark skinned in my game as well.

Then that isn't a good example considering she looks dark in everyone else's game, including yours. Find one who looks white in your game and get a pic so we have a better example to go off of.

I don't know where UESP got their information. Screenshot is from April of this year, 2011. I think it was one of the developers fiddling around

I instantly noticed her as a redguard too. Looks dark/bronze in my game.

Although, I must say that Redguards aren't necessarily black. I think it's a mix of kind of African and North African (to make a real life equivalent). There are some Arab influences and motifs about them. I'd really like to see Bethesda revisit a Redguard centric world. Could be kind of part Saharan adventure, part Prince of Persia-like.

That.

I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't really get my redguard to look Arabian, despite trying. Considering Hammerfall is a desert and they so use the Arabian aesthetic for clothing, it stands to reason a subset of the redguards could be Arabian-looking. Like a subset of Bretons are inbred, Daedra worshipping hillbillies.

Her basic facial structure is white. Few to no African Africans exist in Skyrim ... :whistling: And where are the Asians?

The Asians are Khajiit since the Akavir are a mystery.

There are Asians, but they've never fully been in the game. Gaiden Shinji started the Arena, for example.
